Ahrweiler is a really sweet town in the Ahr Valley, right next to the health resoirt Bad Neuenahr. We had visited previously on a summer afternoon, but wanted to come back for a night to relax and try the famous local red wines.

Good points:
Excellent location - right in heart of Ahrweiler old town on the pedestrian precinct.
Really friendly staff and owners - made to feel very welcome.
Great "maxi bar" at hotel reception with good choice of local wines and beers (operates on an honesty system and very good value).
Comfortable large room with balcony and English TV channel (BBC world).
Nice breakfast with good choice and plenty of tables.
Ahrweiler is a lovely town.
Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms at the back have balconies looking out on to the vine covered hills surrounding the town.

Stayed one night together with my brother in september 2013. Nice, newly renovated rooms. Small bathroom, but in tip top condition. Breakfast was very good and included in the price. A perfect place in the middle of the old town - highly recommended.

This was a welcome stopover in a UK-to-Italy roadtrip. Staff extremely helpful, rooms spacious and impeccably clean and a delicious breakfast buffet. Always felt welcome, even with special arrangements for our unplanned late arrival. And what a great location. Would definitely revisit.

This is my second visit to this small hotel inside the walls of a very pretty Rhineland town. The quality of the service was at least as good as the first time. Booking the larger rooms (Komfortdopplezimmer) is worthwhile as it includes a balcony and a wonderful view over the rooftops to the surrounding hills.

As I expect in Germany the rooms are spotless and well maintained. The staff could not be more helpful. The town was not as busy as when we visited last October so there was no problems parking in the hotel's carpark . I would recommend this hotel to anyone, even the minibar prices were reasonable about £1-55 for a beer.

When visiting this area do try their red wines, the grape is mainly Spätebergunder, better known as the Pinot Noir.

Room Tip: I have stayed in rooms 23 and 24 and recommend them. They are large with balconies and views of the surrounding hills.

If you venture to this beautiful part of Germany then we can thoroughly recommend the Hotel Ännchen for a few nights stay. We were there in April and the season was just getting going. Whether this had any effect on the state of the rooms and premises (i.e. prepared/refreshed over the winter for the new season) the bottom line is that the place was immaculate! The 3 rooms we saw (we were with friends) were as new. Indeed the towels were so new in our room there was a problem with red fluff attaching itself to things. We had a Komfortzimmer which came with a balcony and a mini bar. Everything was as new and beautifully presented. The view from the balcony looked over the car park and roof tops to the vineyards. The normal doubles with balconies face the same way but can be a bit smaller and have no mini bar. The room used as a single by our friend turned out to be a twin and faced on to the pedestrian zone.

The Breakfast Room was modern and roomy but without views. There was a really good choice at the buffet. Scrambled and boiled eggs were made to order whilst we were there but it looked as though at peak times boiled eggs are pre-prepared. Delicious bread rolls were replenished from the baker two doors up the street as and when necessary by staff members who were always friendly and eager to please. There is a café attached to the hotel which was open intermittently during our stay. The hotel website invites you to sit and have breakfast in the café and look out on to the pedestrian zone and indeed some regular guests did this.

Booking in and out was done at the counter in the café. There is a reception counter between the café and the breakfast room but this was not used whilst we were there. The website clearly indicates that reception has limited opening times but arrangements are in place to welcome you at other times or for a key to be made available in a safe at the entrance if you are arriving late.

The hotel is in an excellent location within the medieval walls of the beautiful town of Ahrweiler and lends itself both to those who want to walk the Rotweinwanderweg or use the excellent rail link to explore the valley.
