Where do i start?!

My wife and I had the best weekend of our lives just, and Houstoun House Hotel made that happen.

We booked our wedding over two years ago and have visited countless times in our planning.

Every time we were greeted brilliantly by different hotel staff and this only reaffirmed our decision to have our weekend there.

Andrew the manager is always visible, interacting with guests and colleagues alike and that warmth radiates through the team, who consistently go above and beyond for their guests.

Being from England originally, i had all of my guests staying over so trying to sort logistics etc could have been very difficult! The fantastic events manager Charlotte was consistently excellent to deal with, putting up with my constant questions and requests!

Eventually i realised that Charlotte had all bases covered and then some, and that this team is such a well oiled machine that its best to simply let them do their jobs, as they do them so well.

Clair, Chloe, Courtney, Christina, Emma, Karen - thank you to all of you and to the whole team who worked this past weekend to make our weekend perfect. Clair stood in as an honorary guest with Charlotte to coax our flower girls down the aisle and Courtney kept me from flapping when I was getting a little
overwhelmed!

All of our guests commented on the room size and beautiful setting and the weather blessed us with our dream day.

I have been meaning to leave a review for this hotel since October 2023, finally got round to it. We chose to stay here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, because it was the hotel we held our wedding reception at and where we stayed for the night of our wedding. I was left a little disappointed. We booked a luxury room, but in no way would I describe our room as luxury. It was clean, which was great, but it was so dated. To get to our room you had to go down a corridor with carpet that was not in-keeping with the rest of the hotel, was in dire need of a hoover, and with a musty smell. I couldn't help thinking we had been placed in a part of the hotel where the rooms were cheaper. Another thing, which was not perhaps the hotel's fault, but when we arrived back after our evening meal (we left the hotel for this as we weren't overly impressed with the hotel's menu), the whole corridor stank of a very spicy meal (dirty plates were outside the room next to ours), and this smell had drifted into our room. This was the night of our anniversary and so it spoilt it a bit. I do wish the hotel staff had picked up the dirty plates. They were left there overnight. Even when they were removed the smell lingered. I was left wishing we'd gone to stay elsewhere for our anniversary. Another thing which I feel is the touch of a decent hotel, is that they leave some note at wishing you a happy anniversary (or whatever your special occasion is). I had put on our booking notes about it being our 20th wedding anniversary, but there was nothing in our room. Then we come to the staff. Some were friendlier than others shall we say. The woman who checked us in was not very welcoming. Nor was the woman who seated us for breakfast. What was supposed to be a special stay was not special. One more thing, walking round the grounds showed that some areas of the hotel are in need of repair. It did look run down in parts. I'm sad to say that I wouldn't want to stay there again.

I had a massage and facial with a therapist called jennifer at the Spa and she was fantastic, she did a wonderful job and talked me though all the products. Really recommend the signature treatment , very calmimg but very firm which is what i asked for
