The hotel is located in the rather uninteresting village of Bogen, halfway between Narvik and Harstad. Of course, it has the excellent scenery common in this region (especially if you get a room facing the fjord). It is just beside the main E10 road, and is an easy stop for road travellers. Another reason for using this hotel is its proximity to Harstad-Narvik (Evenes) Airport, about 13 km away. The hotel will pick up and deliver their guests to /from the airport at no charge (this service must be pre-booked).
We booked our stay on the day of arrival. The staff was very helpful in finding a suitable room for us (2 adults and 3 children). What we got was a largish family room with 3 good single beds and a sleeper sofa usable for two.
The hotel property is quite dated - it appears to have been built in the 1970s, with little refurbishing done since. There are signs of work in progress, though - most doors at the second floor had the trim around the doors removed. Everything in the hotel reeks of the 1970s or early 1980s. Everything seemed clean, though - with the possible exception of some of the corners in the bathroom (I have seen much worse in modern hotels, though). There's no elevator to the second floor where the guest rooms are.
The room had no bedside tables. Apart from the beds there were a desk with a chair, a small table and a 26" TV with a decent selection of channels.
The bathroom had brownish tiles, a green toilet, a sink with mirror and a shower. No other toiletries than a dispenser multi-purpose soap in the shower and some shower caps were provided.
The room had wireless Internet (password obtainable from the reception) with somewhat limited capacity - don't plan on streaming HD video! There was also a PC in the reception area, it even had a (non-working) printer.
The provided breakfast was OK, but don't expect anything very fancy. There were not many guest in the hotel during our stay, so I'll accept a smaller selection than in a larger establishment. Some cold cuts, jams, corn flakes, milk, yoghurt, juices, boiled eggs and coffee/tea, were available, and some OK bread. My children were delighted to find a bowl of chocolates on the breakfast table - unfortunately, some of them were a bit stale.
Staff was friendly, but not very visible. We were asked to pay on arrival (even if the reservation was guaranteed by our travel agency). The man who drove us to the airport carried our bags into the departure hall, a courtesy not often seen in Norway.
All in all, this is a useful place if you need to stay in the area. The staff is good, while the property is obviously affected by its age.
