e were looking forward to staying here, and the boat trip across the lake was good, giving an idyllic impression of the lodges on their islets. However, the reality was very different. Our rooms were dirty - mouldy - dirty sheets and towels. After a room change to slightly better accommodation, we looked around.. The walkways were in a very poor condition, and the bridge to the restaurant was unusable. The hotel handyman had to row everyone to the restaurant - but we convinced the manager to let us have a pedalo. The swimming pool was a building site - and apparently had been for some years.
The food was not good - very basic, and the liquid serves as dessert on a saucer re-emerged in the morning as jam. I felt sorry for the manager who cannot be expected to sort out the mess - it is just about beyond redemption. It is such a shame as the situation is glorious, with wildlife all around - peaceful views everywhere you look.

Room tip: there really aren't any - stay away

We loved the scenery. The trip by boat to the resort was magical as we did it pitch dark and the sky was full of bright stars. However, when we arrived to the resort we were not expecting this place to be in the poor state that it was. When we arrived there were only five guest - 3 left the next morning and two got ill because of the mould in the room. The main bridge to the restaurant is broken so you will need a boat all the time. When we arrived at 8 pm, the guy at reception suggested to take a pedal boat to go to our room in a lagoon where there are some cocodriles. We were booked for few days and we left after one night. Everything needs repair. The don’t have pretty much anything of food in the restaurant and the swimming pool is completely destroyed.

It’s a shame that the government is neglecting this place. We felt sorry for the employees who have been working there for over 25 years and they feel they cannot do their jobs.

*** Pros:

- lovely scenery and setting

*** Cons:
- poor state
- far from everywhere
- run down
- terrible food at the restaurant (don’t have supply)

*** Advice ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- to stay in Playa Larga is a better option. Plenty of restaurants and places to stay.
- come here to have a beer during sunset so pay only for the boat trip
-⚠️⚠️ there’s no swimming pool as the images suggested

The lake bank is quite touristy as there is the crocodille farm on site, where all tours go. The hotel itself consists of bungalows on the lake. You need to go there by a speedboat, they say 8 km. The regular boat operation ends at 3:30 pm, but you can come anytime if you are staying at the hotel. However, you might wait for some time, as usual in Cuba. The price (12 CUC/person) of the boat ride is not included in the hotel price. Take just a backpack with basic stuff, do not go with all baggages if you have the possibility to leave it in the car.
In the morning, you are again dependent on the speedboat, you have to wait for the first one, which we were told came around 9-9:30. It actually arrived around 9:30.
The bungalows are interconnected together and also with the "reception" and restaurant and "Indian village". I would say 1 night is enough for this different experience. There were only a few other people besides us so the place was not crowded at all.
The bungalow itself was very basic, like a child camp, but the shower had good pressure and hot water, after some repairs :) There can be insect and spiders visiting, remember you are in the swamp area. The A/C was very noisy, I had hard sleeping.
In restaurant, we were offered only a speciality plate for dinner. I would have appreciated just some small snack but did not know it was even possible. Later, Spanish speaking couple was given a normal menu with some variety of other meals, which I was not aware of :( So ask for othere possibilities before you order the most expensive meal.
For breakfast we got an omelette, fresh juice, tea or coffee. Maybe there is some bigger selection during high season.
The pool is currently damaged (maybe by hurricane? - our visit was in Oct 2017), so don´t bother to bring your swimsuit.
Some planks on the wooden roads are broken, be careful when you walk.
There are many birds around, we also saw 2-3 snakes.
And as usual, you are expected to give tips. In Cuba, we learned not to tip anyone just because they ask for it.

Stayed here in mid April, the boat ride to the hotel is nice, the place is very remote. Like lots of places in Cuba it is not perfect, but the rooms were nice, AC worked, nice bathrooms and showers. Not much to do but relax and enjoy the scenery. Food was ok, nothing special. lots of neat birds and great views.

Truly enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very friendly, stopping by each room to make sure everyone was settled in.
The boat ride to and from the parking area was fun. The boat captain even took a side canal to show us different birds and plants.
Rooms were more than adequate. Bathroom was newly remodeled. Loved the back deck with steps down into the water. Overall it was very comfortable cabin. The restaurant, besides being on the One CUP coin, was a great place for our group to gather and the food was good.
The bartender made sure that we all had something cold.
The grounds are still being renovated after taking damage from a hurricane. The pool is gone as are some of the cabins but there are also several new cabins as well as new bridges and walks. I would gladly come back here. Looking forward to it.
