“A lovely view”
Review of Pentre Ifan

Went there with family and young children.
Good parking before leading down a pathway with views of the preseli mountains.

The actual structure is impressive. However I wish there was more information about its significance and relation to the history of the area. It seems this place is left alone with no one wanting to unpick it history.

I feel for this reason it lacks
Still if a gorgeous day and if your close by a worthwhile view

A cold and very windy day but we loved this place. It's situated on a windy road and we'll signposted. It has a large lay by to park. A very short walk from the car to the stones. It's breathtakingly beautiful. You can see the hills and the beach in the distance, the stones are magnificent. There is a board with information about the sight. If it had been warmer I would have stayed for a while longer but it was bitterly cold. I would definitely go again if I'm in the area.

When you consider that this magnificent, and very tall burial chamber was once covered by a mound, you then realise how impressive it once was.

The chamber commands one of the finest panoramic views in this part of the Presseli Mountains, and due to its fairly close proximity to Crymech and Menachlog Ddu, and the source of the famous Blue dolerite granite of Carn Ingli and Carn Menin, that forms the inner circle of Stonehenge, you then realise how important Pentre Ifan was to the native inhabitants over four millennia ago.

The chamber is in a very exposed location, offering no protection from the prevailing winds or rain, and was well known to the famous antiquarians of the past, so if you can visit on a fine day, your visit will be rewarded.

Visiting the chamber without your own transport, will not be easy, as it is in a fairly remote part of Pembroke, but a visit to the finest burial chamber in SW Wales is on the must do list of visiting Pembroke.

The Cromlech at Pentre Ifan is in remarkably great condition and is well worth the couple of miles drive from the main road - though I don't remember the signs actually saying 'Pentre Ifan'.

Narrow roads lead up to a small two/three car lay-by, then a short walk along a well-kept path to this burial ‘chamber’. What is left is a rather beautiful standard burial environment of a large, flat triangular stone held up by a collection of dolmen. It is now all above ground, as the stone cairn that would have hidden the stones from view has all been rubbed out.

The descriptive board states that the cairn was about 120 ft in length.

The views from the site are spectacular, covering mountains, moorlands and seascapes.

Well worth a visit.
