My husband and I (together with another couple traveling with us) stayed here on our journey up the western UK coast. Three of us have been in Wales before and so, whenever we come back, we enjoy staying in smaller villages to get the "local flavor."
Pen Isar Llan is located in a little hamlet outside the town of Bala. Thus, it's not touristy and you can get a good night sleep without noise (even if you are staying in the room facing the main road). If you like the outdoors, there are plenty of opportunities for walks around the area or even down to Lake Bala. You do likely need a car here as the trains and buses aren't regular but that's what keeps up the charm.
Our rooms were generously sized and beautifully decorated with thick towels and clean bathrooms. Breakfast is made to order so you can have the full English or snack on cereals, bread, and fruit. We did hope to have Welsh cakes but I don't think this was on the menu options.
Patricia is a delightful host and she oozes warmth from the moment you arrive. I had a lovely chat with her about running a B&B and hope to return again.
