My husband and I (together with another couple traveling with us) stayed here on our journey up the western UK coast. Three of us have been in Wales before and so, whenever we come back, we enjoy staying in smaller villages to get the "local flavor."

Pen Isar Llan is located in a little hamlet outside the town of Bala. Thus, it's not touristy and you can get a good night sleep without noise (even if you are staying in the room facing the main road). If you like the outdoors, there are plenty of opportunities for walks around the area or even down to Lake Bala. You do likely need a car here as the trains and buses aren't regular but that's what keeps up the charm.

Our rooms were generously sized and beautifully decorated with thick towels and clean bathrooms. Breakfast is made to order so you can have the full English or snack on cereals, bread, and fruit. We did hope to have Welsh cakes but I don't think this was on the menu options.

Patricia is a delightful host and she oozes warmth from the moment you arrive. I had a lovely chat with her about running a B&B and hope to return again.

I booked a weekend here to celebrate Mum's 50th birthday, and I don't think I could have picked anywhere more perfect if I'd spent a thousand pounds.

Arriving late on the Friday evening, Pat was there to welcome us as warmly as old friends, and took delight in showing us around the stunning farmhouse of which she is rightly so very proud.

Ideally located just off the main road, it was easy to find and set amongst beautiful countryside scenery, yet only a 5 minute drive or 15 minute leisurely stroll into Bala where there are wonderful options to eat and drink.

We used the B&B as a base to explore the local area, spending a day walking around the Lake and then a day taking in Betws-y- Coed.

Breakfast is a feast for for a king, consisting of an entire sideboard filled with choices of cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, hot fresh toast with too many spreads and toppings to count and then finished off with a delicious cooked breakfast prepared to your liking. All that washes down with freshly brewed coffee, tea and fresh juice...my mouth is watering just thinking about it all. Even with all of the walking, it was more than enough to set us up for the day with only a local ice cream needed at lunchtime to see us through to the evening.

We visited with a 13 year old who was especially taken by the horses on the farm, and whilst we didn't have a dog with us ourselves the fact that Pat welcomes dogs (with well behaved owners!) is a lovely touch and makes the place even more welcoming.

Packed with character, love and warmth...and that goes for the people as much as the buildings, we truly can't wait to visit again soon. Thank you very much indeed for making us so very welcome. :)

400 yrs old house refurbished to be a B&B. Interesting experience to sleep over there in a such ancient dwelling. You can have a real taste of the old Welsh past timings. Patricia (the owner) is very welcoming and courteous.
Price per night seems to be excessive due to the location (you need a car to move anyway) in the middle of the countryside.

We stayed in Pen-Isa'r-Llan with our Son and family. It is a really interesting building with lots of period features. Great host, lots of choice of hot drinks in the bedroom and a wonderful breakfast. we will definitely be back.

This is an old farmhouse with a few rooms and one barn conversion to a cottage. Very friendly owner, Pat and willing assistant Chris! We called for a few days en-route South Wales for a couple of days walking in the hills. They are great hosts, the farm is not a working farm now, they do horse stuff in the yard behind. The house is brilliant, the stome slabbed floor are massive sheets of slate like tombstones about 8 ft long. Nice room, ours at the back which may be quieter (actually was so quiet it was uncanny), some on the front. Dog friendly, very easy going atmosphere, wander in and out as you like. Nothing too difficult if you ask Pat or Chris. Will deffo come back here to enjoy walking in the hills when it is not hosing down! Interweb intermittent, but that's more down to Wales than Pen-Isa'r-Llan Farm.

Last minute planning brought myself & my partner to this lovely place. We received a warm welcome from Patricia & Chris, before being shown to our room, then a quick tour of the house to show us rooms we could use, a cosy lounge area, which unfortunately we didn't use as we were tired after a long drive & in need of food. Chris recommended a place to eat down the road, which was perfect.... A good nights sleep & after a hearty tasty cooked breakfast, we headed off to climb Snowdon for our first date...
Would like to return in the future....

We have just got back from our weekend away at Pen-Isa'r-Llan and are already looking to booking our next break away with them. From the minute we arrived to the second we left they were nothing but helpful and welcoming to us. On a number of occasions they went out of their way to ensure we had the best stay possible. The double room was very spacious and extremely clean, and the bed was just amazing! Best nights sleep we have had in a very long time! We are very much looking forward to coming back and staying with them again. Thank you once again
