I visited the Royal Oak having only been for a meal once previously and that was many years ago. WHY DID I LEAVE IT FOR SO LONG?????? A part of 4 went for Sunday Lunch (BOOK) and we pre-ordered the Sirloin of Beef which they bring to your table and you carve it. WOW!!! the beef was without doubt the best that I have tasted in a very long time. This taste was complimented by the assortment of potatoes, veg, yorkshire's and gravy (there is no danger that you run out of beef). All served with such efficiency and by staff who could not have been any friendlier or helpful. 3 of the group had desert and this was equally mouthwatering and one of the group commented 'it was the best chocolate brownie that she had EVER tasted' - the person who made the comment is not easily pleased and is a bit of a guru in the art of desert. So all in all, it was FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, EXCELLENT........

Can you forgive the holes in the ceiling and seating, shabby dated fixtures and fittings if the food is good and value for money? That sadly is the question you have to ask yourself. If it wasn't for the former i would be happy to recommend this pub. There is very little ambience and the views they cannot change. There are none. If you want somewhere to just go and eat it's fine but it needs a major revamp for it to be a destination to make it somewhere to recommend to friends and family.

The Royal Oak was recommended by friends we were visiting.
Situated just outside Warminster, close to Longleat, this traditional country village pub gave us a warm friendly welcome. Ample parking. Obviously very popular with the locals.
Good selection of seats and tables to cater for all sizes of groups.
An interesting menu selection, though it's priced on the high side of average.
The Wookey Hole cheddar fondue is a great starter and big enough to share, followed by a superb spiced roast belly pork with sauté potatoes and caramelised vegetables, and steak and ale pie with mash and green beans, rounded off with a very generous portion of extremely tasty sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely all round perfect meals.
Very friendly and attentive staff, good efficient service. Recommended to anyone looking for a good quality meal.
This will definitely be on our return list.
Some other eateries could do with copying the Royal Oak's model

On arrival, the lovely planters / baskets on display bode well for a good experience and we were not disappointed! Staying with friends locally for the nearby attractions during ½ Term we (6) called in for lunch and were warmly greeted and found a table without fuss with drinks bought to us rather than waiting at the bar which was nice. 4 adults all had different main courses as did my two teenage children, no complaints at all, very good in fact. We declined puddings as we had an energetic holiday afternoon ahead (!!) but did see others enjoying theirs! The staff were very attentative and most pleasant - all in all a lovely and unhurried lunch at a reasonable price too - what more can one ask!! Thank you The Royal Oak.......
