“Gorgeous Little Cottage.”
Reviewed January 22, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Jewel Cottage is a perfect destination to stay. Extremely well presented, very clean. What can I say.. the bed linen smelt so fresh is was a good as at home. The beds were very comfortable as was the sofa in the lounge. The little touches like tea bags, coffee & even milk in the fridge already for us on our arrival were greatly appreciated after a long drive from Cornwall!
The cottage has been refurbished to a high standard and it is evident throughout. The lovely cushions, curtains and carpets and furniture make Jewel Cottage extra special.
The only problem was the parking area which is quite tight and the lack of any lighting made it more difficult. The wall and the bumper of my car did not get along :-( Maybe a good idea would be some reflectors on the wall? Not to be put off though, I would most definately stay again in this little gem of a cottage again.

“A "Diamond"”
Reviewed December 28, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Where to begin??,from the moment Martin met us at the station (yes, you read that right),to his taking us to supermarket for provisions, then driving us to the cottage, our stay at Jewel cottage was just perfect.

Everything about the cottage was first class, from the homily sitting room to the beautiful bedrooms, spacious bathroom, well equipped kitchen,we couldn't find fault with anything, plus the little touches that Martin had provided, wine, homemade cake, satsumas, etc, and as it was Christmas had decorated the cottage with a real festive feel.

We will certainly recommend this property to anyone looking to explore the Derbyshire countryside as there are lots of attractions within easy traveling distance. We will also be looking to book Jewel Cottage again in the future.

“jewel cottage is a real gem.”
Reviewed November 18, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

I have nothing but good things to say about this cosy, spotlessly clean and well appointed cottage. As soon as we booked we were contacted by Martin the owner with very helpful tips for dining out, places to visit and parking etc. The price we paid for two nights for four people was considerably less than 1 night in a bed and breakfast so we were pleasantly surprised just how luxurious it was. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever experienced, the kitchen well equipped, the log burner all set up and ready to go and there was even a complimentary bottle of wine (a lovely touch). The attention to detail was second to none and we have all agreed we will return.

“Fantastic Place to stay to relax and recharge”

Upon arrival the cottage had a lovely welcoming feel and the surrounding area was beautiful, it’s a lovely part of the UK. It’s nice to see areas unspoiled by big apartment blocks and the general hustle and bustle of modern life. I strongly recommend a trip to nearby Bakewell to sample the famous Bakewell Tarts, yummy and also in season you must go to Abraham Heights and take a trip up on the cable cars!

I highly recommended a trip to jewel cottage, you will not be disappointed in what you find. It’s the little touches that make the cottage feel so homely, thank you for an amazing time. I have stayed in many hotels but by having a whole cottage to yourself is by far a much, much better experience.

Thank you.

“Excellent stay at Jewel Cottage”
Reviewed November 1, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

As a group of four friends we stayed at Jewel Cottage for three nights in October. The cottage is lovely and quaint with a cosy atmosphere and all mod cons. Lovely bedrooms and decor. The wine was a lovely personal touch too. Martin was v friendly and sent some great info about things to do.

Only thing we would say is they could do with two 2 seater sofas in the front of room and a light outside the property. Be careful when reversing out of the drive way as very narrow.

It's ideally located in the middle of Matlock and Sainsbury's is only a 15 min walk down the hill. We visited chatsworth, Bakewell and haddon hall, all only a short drive away. We would also recommend Viva Italian on Dale Road. Would definitely recommend this cottage to friends.

“Highly Recommended”
Reviewed October 24, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

After returning from a 2 night stay at Jewel Cottage today, I just couldn't wait to review it. It's a beautiful, old cottage with heaps of charm, character and is incredibly comfortable.

As a base it's ideal and is central to various shops, restaurants, bars and parks. For those less mobile, I would recommend sticking to your car, as the hilly locale can be taxing on the old calves.

The cottage itself has all the basics (Kettle, fridge, oven, toaster, central heating, WiFi, tv, radio, bedding, towels), but also has those little extras that I was highly appreciative of such as tea, coffee, sugar, sauces, oils, cotton wool balls, cotton buds, soap, pens and tourist information. It was also great to see a suggestion book for guests to comment in to know the owner has a keen interest in how others see it.

The log burner had been prepared for lighting when we arrived and there is a basket of wood next to it for those chilly nights. However, the central heating was very adequate and we only lit the fire once as a novelty to enhance our experience.

Me and my fiance stayed in the basement bedroom. It was very cosy and comfortable with a super king sized bed. The pillows were deep and squishy and the duvet was very snuggly and warm. Perfect for this time of year. My mother and her partner stayed in the top floor bedroom and also found it to be equally comfortable.

The kitchen is big enough for anyone's needs and you can comfortably cook a meal. There are plenty of pots, pans and trays for use, as well as plates, cups and cutlery.

As far as bathrooms go, this one was very nice. The colours were beautiful and calming and there was both a good sized bath and a large shower. Great for relaxing after a days walking/exploring.

The location, though central for a lot of shops and restaurants, is very quiet at night. You could barely hear a sound! Even with another cottage attached and an arts venue/bar next door it was incredibly peaceful.

I would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a clean, cosy base. Be it for an active holiday, or a short and relaxing break. However, due to the steep nature of the area and the steep stairs inside, this property would not be suitable for those with disabilities.

Recommendations:

●The Greedy Pig Delicatessen (Just over the road! )
●Hambridge's Butchers
●The Crown
●Matlock Antiques Centre
●The Boathouse
●Bella Figura

Lovely cottage. Stayed two nights with friends. Very good location. Lots of extras left for use, washing up liquid, tea towels, oil, salt and pepper dishwasher tabs, foil etc etc. Great for a short stay or a week. Lovely and clean with comfy beds. Lots of interest and walks nearby. Owner very personable too! Would highly recommend!
