Hotel, but not for our type!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 28, 2024
Myself and my wife visited this hotel in early June as part of a trip around West Kerry in Ireland. To give my feedback some context, I must detail that my wife is an MS sufferer and suffers from reduced mobility. When booking I asked this hotel that due to my wife’s mobility limitations we need a room not a trek from bar and restaurants etc., along with a walk-in shower, these requests were confirmed and I even reconfirmed a week or so before arrival, again these requests were acknowledged! To cut to the chase, when we checked in the receptionist issued our room key and we walked a very long way to our room and, you may guess this, no walk-in shower! I returned to reception and was told “this room is the nearest to bar etc,” When asked about no walk-in shower the young lady, in a very patronizing tone, asked “did we request one?” I asked her to check my booking details and her face seemed to loose the patronizing attitude to one of “Oh, I can see your requirements.” Eventually we were given a room half the walking distance away from everything and the shower required!

Trying to get to my point about this hotel is that they offer nothing, repeat nothing, toward the needs of people with mobility issues on any level. We have travelled the world and hotels generally bend over backwards to help customers who are unlucky with health issues but this hotel, particularly their reception and restaurant staff, lack empathy and tolerance of customers not covered by the category of “normal,”

I am sending a copy of this message to MS-UK and MSIreland so they can relay details of our experience at this hotel with their members,

Finally, to cap a miserable trip we tested positive for Covid when we got home!!

My son and his wife had the Irish version of their wedding in the Skellig in May 2024. A number of the family stayed there for a few days. I cannot recommend the Skellig highly enough - either as a wedding venue or as a venue for accommodation if visiting Dingle. The attention to detail for wedding preparation by Karen, wedding coordinator was impeccable and really, really helpful. The accommodation manager, Sheila, was very helpful in smoothing out booking for wedding guests. The restaurant/dining and bar managers were all super helpful and friendly for the days we remained following the wedding. In fact, the friendliness, cooperation and willingness to accommodate wedding needs and guests' needs was wonderful to experience. This extended throughout the serving staff and front desk staff. The rooms/bathrooms were terrific. Finally, the food, both for the wedding and as guest in the Skellig was, in my view, superior and delicious, and is beyond what one may sometimes experience in similar grade hotels. We had about 12 vegetarians in the party and they were amply catered for at the wedding meal and as guests. If you're someone who enjoys hotel breakfasts, then you will love the Skellig breakfasts! Well done to all at the Skellig and thank you for a wonderful wedding and stay.

We were celebrating our 10year wedding anniversary and this was one of the hotels we chose for one of the nights of our 2night getaway , it was a nice hotel , great views, nice breakfast , ideal spot for a stroll into Dingle to take in the nightlife.
Rooms were a little small and dated but that didn't bother us so much
The staff at reception were a little confused about payments they charged us twice but thankfully after raising the questions we were refunded eventually. We felt the price was a little high for what we got but I guess it was during June bank holiday weekend

Stayed two nights as part of a Vagabond tour. Stopped by the spa at 4:15 PM after a day of horseback riding, slea head drive and shopping. I asked if they had any massage opening that day and they said they could take me at 4:30 for an hour but my adult daughter also wanted a massage so they suggested splitting the time with two 30 min partial massages. When I came back at 4:30 Katerina said she would stay longer and give me an hour and my daughter a half hour. The gesture was appreciated and she was wonderful.

Great stay for family of five visiting Dingle! Hotel was great location, great staff, fantastic breakfast with magnificent views of Dingle bay/harbor! Breakfast was terrific - lots of buffet options and off breakfast menu. Rooms were spacious and laundry was very convenient (although would be great to have more than one washer/dryer). Location is perfect for walks Into town or homebase for Sleigh head drive. Pool is also very nice. Would definitely stay here again!

Room tip: Parking spots are tight for those visiting from outside Europe.

Lovely bar area and the live music was great.
Rooms and some areas look a little tired for a 4 star.
Pool was great and never too busy.
Check in / out very simple.
Had an issue during the stay and it was resolved really well and timely - well done.
Highly recommend and will stay again !
