Great hotel with excellent service

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 6, 2024via mobile
I have visited Dingle many times staying in houses but this was my first stay in the Dingle Skellig and it will not be my last.
I stayed in a king room in the new part of the hotel.
The room, food and location were all great but the service brought it to a higher level.

The location was beautiful, right on Dingle Bay and about a 10 minutes walk from town center. However, overpriced for what it was. The room was very musty smelling and stuffy. There is no air conditioning, only a fan (I suppose due to the mostly cool weather year round). I found several hairs - one on the desk, some in the bedding, and one on the floor of the shower. That in itself makes me cringe. I also had trouble with the internet connecting during my three-day stay and had trouble with the TV (remote wouldn't connect and someone had to come restart the tv, and limited channels when I wanted to watch the Olympics). I got a burger from room service and it wasn't very good. Breakfast is included and nice. The Coastguard restaurant located within the hotel is very good (and expensive).

STAYED IN AUGUST 2023-ONLY GETTING TIME TO WRITE THIS NOW:
I don't write reviews but I feel compelled to as I would prefer somebody to know what they are getting into! It's not that there was anything 'wrong' with this hotel, its just that it is SO overpriced that it's quite remarkable. We stayed in high season so we knew it was expensive and had no choice as we were attending an event meaning we had to stay those dates. I had stayed here years ago and it was dated then..it is still very dated. If you are lucky you will get one of the more updated rooms but even then the corridors etc are old and grubby and narrow and dated. The main areas-reception, restaurant etc are updated and look nice. There is a nice view from the restaurant but a group of us stayed and only one of us had a nice view from their room. We overlooked a field, back of houses and funeral parlour! The saving grace years ago was the buffet breakfast...what has happened to it?! There is now a cold buffet (breads, pastries, a few bits of hams and cheese and some mackeral, a few cereals and a few juices) and then you must order your hot breakfast from a very small menu. And while we are speaking of small..the full irish breakfast was 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, 1 egg, 1 piece of white pudding and black pudding and a half a large mushroom...all on a small rectangular plate. We wanted to get our stuff and leave at that point. We had spent one night squashed into a small dated room, roasting hot, thinking at least the breakfast might save this. There are coeliacs in our group. There was a table of gluten free breads, pastries etc all looked lovely but all still frozen and we had to keep flagging down staff to ask could it be heated. English seemed to be a problem and so we just gave up. We went to the town for breakfast afterwards-imagine after that price, going out for breakfast! It has the market because of American tour groups and there is no other competition in the area in terms of a large hotel, but my God its so overpriced-pay it if you can afford to feel robbed and money isn't really an issue. There are 2 pluses: The kids club was very good and the swimming pool and changing rooms were impressively clean-remarkably so actually. We are not picky people-we will give credit where credit is due, but this was just a complete rip off!

The Skellig Peninsula in Dingle is a stunning hotel in the most picturesque setting in Dingle bay. From beginning to end we were met with smiling faces and the most helpful and kind staff. Nothing was too much for them.

The hotel is beautiful with a fabulous spa and of course the outdoor, rooftop jacuzzi. Add in a fee extra bubbles( Prosecco) and admire the spectacular view. Wow. What a treat!
Also a leisure centre with pool and gym, not to mention the great kid's club.

It was my birthday and 30 of us descended on the hotel. Each one of us were so happy there all the time💃🎂🥂.

So many staff members to mention and sorry if I forget anyone. Krysten who booked everything, Greg in the dining room along with Nollaig and Lorraine and Ken, our bartender for the night. Also the lovely, bubbly smiling Bulgarian waitress and all the young staff. They were phenomenal .

Will I return? In a heartbeat! It really was sad saying bye to the Skelling Peninsula Hotel after 5 nights. Thank you all for making my birthday so special.
Also a big shout out to Dingle. There's something special and magical about it. ❤❤❤

Room tip: Parking is good. The rooms are great but I'd upgrade to get the phenomenal views. The water dispensers are a great idea. They utilise the water from their own springs!

Hotel is pleasant and in a great location, just 10 mins from the centre. Accommodation was clean and comfortable, if a little tired, like ourselves. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's got a beautiful setting on the shoreline, and parking is plentiful.
