Just back from the most distressing and disgusting visit to the Holyrood Hotel. We checked in to our room for three nights. On entering the room there was the most disgusting smell there, we preceded to open the narrow window to see would it help. I contacted reception and they sent house keeping up with some air freshener. The smell was still there, it seemed to be coming from the bathroom where there was a large square hole in the ceiling with a towel stuffed up there. At this stage we felt sick with the smell and contacted reception again. She said she would send someone again to sort it. We decided to make a cup to tea, only to find the socket for kettle near the floor so kettle had to be put on floor to boil, next to absolutely disgusting carpet where there was dried in sick. We went to the pool while we were waiting to resolve the room problem. The pool again most disgusting green cloudy water, we couldn't even see the bottom, needless to say we didn't spend long there. The Jacuzzi was broken and the steam room out of order. We returned to our room where Housekeeping came again and poured some bleach down the toilet and shower, she agreed there was a bad smell. Still no good, again contacted reception and receptionist came up she agreed there was smell. We told her we could not stay in the room as we were terrified of the fumes at this stage. She told us there was no other rooms available so we preceded to ask for our money back or to get us alternative accommodation. We wanted to talk to management but when she contacted them they told her would not be coming in to sort our problem. Their solution was stay in the room with unknown smell or find alternative accommodation ourselves. We proceeded to leave the hotel and found much superior accommodation in the Allingham Arms Hotel nearby. We are considerably out of pocket and have since tried to contact the hotel but they do not return our calls.
