Went twice and first visit was almost impossible to criticise. A few blips on return. One of our party ordered wrong dish (our fault) and the staff seemed a little perplexed by the situation though they did apologise at the end. Even though the it wasn't their fault it was appreciated. Unfortunately, the first - and replacement - meal took quite a long time which dampened the experience. Food tasted lovely though, despite the delays.

Most of the staff are really Italian, including the chef. However, if you're Italian do not expect that the dish you order is like that you would have in Italy. We ordered the ravioli with vegetable cream, but they were really far from the ones we have ever experienced. Also the very typical spaghetti al ragù (meat tomato sauce) were spaghettini (thinner spaghetti) and the sauce not delicious at all. The starter (local cheese plus Italian salami and olives) was not so bad, but not excellent at all. The bill was like expected.

We arrived at the restaurant it was busy and we had no booking,
they first refused us but then accommodated us and we were grateful.
We only had main course but the atmosphere, meal and staff were all very nice.

We visited this restaurant a couple of years ago and loved it, we looked forward to visiting again on this visit to Carrick-on-Shannon. Unfortunately, we didn’t think it necessary to book prior to our visit, however, we chanced a walk-in. We were greeted by a member of staff who said that there was nothing available at present but booked us in for 7pm (40mins later) we were happy enough with this as we were really looking forward to eating here again and we could see many tables were nearing the end of their main course and we were assured that the table would be free. We then took off on a walk with hungry kids for 40mins. On return at 6.55pm there was a couple in front of us who asked for a table for 2, it was clear that they had not booked as their waiter said he would check availability and placed them at a table for two, meanwhile the waiter who spoke to us previously and booked us for 7pm came to us and said sorry we actually won’t have a table for you, I was needless to say very disappointed and told him so, he then went off to ‘see’ what he could do...he said we could sit at the table for two...there was 5 of us! Had the waiter in front not have given the previous table for two away then both tables for two would have been able to join together like many other tables in the restaurant and therefore we would have had lots of room for our family. The gentleman serving us was very unprofessional in his customer service skills and left us extremely disappointed and with hungry kids at 7pm in Carrick-on-Shannon...there are not many places to visit for food after these hours in Carrick without meeting hens and stags that are not suitable for kids eyes!!! Had we known in the beginning at 18.20 when we entered the restaurant at first that there was a slight chance we would not get a table then we certainly would not have hung around waiting. The waiter offered to serve us food from the menu in the pub across the road...I am a responsible parent and would not take my children into pubs in Carrick-on-Shannon after 7pm for food served from across the road!!! My children do not need to see unsavory hen and stag party antics. Im all extremely disappointed..we had even planned to get a substantial voucher as gift for family members who plan to visit next week...we will be getting voucher for elsewhere after the way we were treated.

This has to be one of the best restaurants in the Midlands if not Ireland. We were regulars here when we visited Carrick. Food fantastic with regular specials every week wine to die for. You must try the primitivo wine for a really smooth red wine. Gino and the crew will look after you. We miss this place so much and can’t wait to go back. Make sure and book your table.
