“Just like staying with family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2010

We stayed at Hillview Farmhouse for 4 nights of our 2 week vacation in Ireland. The food and Irish hospitality were second to none. Dorthea & Joe are wonderfully friendly, informative hosts. They made us feel right at home and even took us on a personal driving tour one afternoon through the Gap of Dunloe - Kenmare area. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. Dorothea's cooking is excellent and she is very accomodating with your tastes/dietary needs. We had so much fun with them during our stay. Sadly we had to leave to continue on our trip - we certainly felt like we had made new friends by the time we left. When we return to Ireland one day, we will certainly call on Dorothea & Joe again!

We were looking for an accommodation close to the Ring of Kerry and found Hillview on a website for Irish B&Bs decribing it as a farmhouse with a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Personally, I was caught by the word "homebaking" :-) We were welcomed very friendly by Dorothea and her cute little puppy dog and got a room with a view to the backside overlooking the farm. Dorothea was quite helpful with trip advises and because of her recommendation we went to Dingle which we haven't planned to do so before. Dingle is an ecxellent place you should not miss while staying in Hillview. She also told us to visit Valencia Island which was a real gain too. The room was decorated cosily and we were served with fresh tea, chocolates and milk from their own cows. From the window we could see a young foal and a calf. We had a really good night's sleep and in the morning a great breakfast with delicious homemade bread, fresh milk and fresh eggs. Especially the taste of the fresh milk reminded my boyfriend of his childhood close to a farm. Dorothea was so friendly when we had to leave and we had a great goodby-chat. Hope to come back!

On the upside Hillview was reasonably priced, easy to find, and the breckfast was above average. On the downside the location was disappointing, the buildings a bit run down looking, the room had no tea making facilities and we certainly didn't feel like it was a home from home! Amazed at all its good reviews - hence I'm adding this one. Unfortunately we didn't find that Dorothea lived up to her reputation from other members. Once the welcoming veneer had evaporated I got the distinct impression that Dorothea wore the trousers and put up with us - albeit through a fixed smile. Her poor husband (the farmer) certainly looked a bit brow beaten! Maybe we got her at a bad weekend, who knows. There must be better alternatives.

WOW - this B&B was AMAZING - like a home away from home. When you arrive, Dorothea greets you with tea and scones. AND...the best part is the fun the kids got to have interacting with the farm animals...milking the goat and feeding the pig - thanks Dorothea! Your breakfast is the best! You can tell the milk and eggs are fresh that morning! Hillview Farm is a real working farm and its a fun place to be! The location is perfect placing you BETWEEN both Kerry and Dingle.

Imagine our surprise that Dorothea was familiar with gluten-free living and even provided gluten-free bread every morning with breakfast and every evening with tea! Very friendly B&B with a very homey feel. It was lovely staying on a working dairy farm with plenty of farm animals! Of the three places we stayed in Ireland this was the best breakfast (traditional Irish) we had. I would recommend to anyone looking for a homey experience and especially coeliacs!!

Just back from 5 days at Hillview farmhouse, Killorglin, Co. Kerry with my 9 year old daughter.
What an experience she had. Helped Joe, the farmer, bring in the cows both morning and night. Led them to the milking parlour, and got dirty helping Joe with the milking.
She also helped feed their 6 Border Collie pups, who were 6 weeks old.
Joe and Dorothea made us most welcome. A full Irish breakfast every day kept us going until the evening. Every time we returned home we were welcomed with cups of tea and cakes.
The days out were excellent. Went to Dingle Bay, and managed to see Fungi, the wild Dolphin.Joe and Dorothea were a mine of information.
Will definately be back !!
