“Dissapointing”
Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed here recently with the family for a 2 night weekend visit and I had high hopes after reading all the positive reviews and looking at the website but left feeling very disappointed.

The hotel has no atmosphere and left us all feeling quite depressed, you are left with the impression that closure of the hotel is imminent and the staff are just going through the motions.
Everywhere you go in the hotel is dimly lit especially the bedrooms which are almost in darkness with all the lights on.

The childrens play area which is featured on the website is not free for guests and this is not stated on the website. The food which we ate in the bar one time only was sub standard and only a few items on the menu were available at about 3pm on a sunday afternoon all served with a grunt from a dirty unshaven chef.We ordered in takeaways for the rest of the stay.

The room was not cleaned properly with used glasses and tea cups not replaced the morning after use, extraction not working in the bathroom, the room however was a great size with plenty of space, lovely view of the parking lot and a building site across the road from the hotel.

Breakfast was fine with one waitress who was a lovely girl doing her best to deal with everyone which led to delays with everything as she was the only person in the restaurant which also had a leak in the roof and water dripping in through the roof the solution to this was to place a dirty plastic bin in the middle of the restaurant to catch the water, classy.

I actually couldnt wait to leave, I find it incredible that there are so many positive reviews on this place which is perhaps fine for a special wedding function but not for a typical short stay.Dont be fooled avoid this place if you want an enjoyable break.

We stayed here for two nights over the weekend, hunting with the Galway Blazers - the meet was at the hotel last Saturday. Never been to Galway before so I was a tad disappointed to find our room overlooking the car park till we woke up the next morning and saw the Loch! Beautiful view although the weather was Irish - wet! Great breakfast in the Lir Bar - eggs cooked to order and everything fresh. The room had a double and single bed, but the lighting in the room was not good - moody but far too dark! Large bathroom with separate shower was great. Hunt Ball was in the hotel - again good food and excellent service and the band was amazing. Fell into bed around 0230 but managed to make breakfast - same as above - great. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Dear 'Sissy55'

I am delighted to hear that your first vist to Galway was an enjoyable one and that you enjoyed the Hotel and the festivities of the Blazers Hunt Ball. I note your comments in relation to the 'moody' lighting your bedroom which is something we have dealt with in the last few days and have upgraded lighting in the bedrooms throughout the Hotel.

I look forward to welcoming you back to Galway for a second visit in the not to distant future.

regards,

My partner and I loved this hotel from the moment we had viewed it..so we booked it immediately for our special day. Every little detail was perfect.. Nothing was an issue, No request too big or too small.. Suggestions on smoother running of the day were gladly recieved.. Our personal touches were accomodated without any hesitation. Food, service, staff, accomodation and value were all truely exceptional. In general the hotel was very modern with Night club situated on the premises... Even our last minute change of plans were cater for. Everyone had commented on the great food and friendly service. We were upgraded to the bridal suite for the second night complimentary. It was nothing less than a pleasure dealing with the staff at the hotel especially the managers. Looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: All rooms are exceptionally modern, very well priced, worth the stay...

We stayed here for a wedding recently, I will safely say it was the nicest wedding we have ever been at, food was fantastic, service was great, staff very friendly and accommodation beautiful, really comfortable with great showers. The following day we stayed around the hotel it was really relaxed and friendly, food was again great and staff couldn't do enough for us. Very well priced!! Will return again

We had our wedding in this hotel on New Years Eve 2011 and it was fantastic. From the moment we booked our wedding with the hotel we were impressed with the professionalism and friendliness approach of the staff. Any extra requests we asked outside of the wedding package were catered for without hesitation. On the wedding day at the hotel, the layout of the reception room was excellent, the food and service was very very good and we the wedding couple were very impressed and delighted with how our wedding reception went. We would like to give a particular thanks to the hotel wedding coordinator Helen. The attention to detail was impressive. The bridal suite was fab. All in all we would highly recommend the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa as a wedding venue and indeed a party venue. We wish the hotel and staff all the best in the future. Aisling and Aidan.

My boyfriend brought me here as a Christmas present. We got the spa package, which was €119 per person for TWO nights, including breakfast, an evening meal, access to the spa area for one day and a spa treatment of our choice. The value was really brilliant, our evening meal was delicious, as were the full Irish breakfasts (cooked to order) both mornings. The waiting staff, reception staff and those at the spa were all extremely friendly and helpful. I was extremely impressed with the hotel, it was spacious, clean and comfortable, with free, high speed wifi. We really enjoyed our day at the spa, and had the place to ourselves which was wonderful! There was a very relaxed attitude toward our check out time - we were running a little late but didn't have people banging on our door trying to get us out of the room! The only downside was the lack of swimming pool, but the spa area made up for this. Left the hotel feeling relaxed and very pleased with our stay. More people should go to this hotel.

Dear 'Aoife B',

I am delighted to here that you and your boyfriend had a relaxing and enjoyable break with us over Christmas. Great to here that you enjoyed the menu in the the Lir Brasserie which is always a popular choice, ( we are just about to launch a new and exiting menu in the Lir Brasserie and also the Abbey Restaurant so you will have to come back and try them. I will pass on your comments to all concerned and I look forward to welcoming you back at some stage in the future.

My partner and i stayed here for 4 nights bed and breakfast. The room was lovely, really luxurious given the price (£198 for 4 nights!) and perfect for a romantic break. Staff were friendly and helpful, the food was nice both at the breakfast buffet where there was a good choice, and in the restaurant. We also used the spa and had some treatments which was really relaxing and excellent value for money (we had the whole spa to ourselves!). I would thoroughtly recommend this hotel if you are visiting the area. The hotel is on the edge of town - only possible drawback i can think of!
