.....At the suggestion of the staff at Ballynahinch, we stayed for a night along our journey.
Martina was exceptional, greeting us upon arrival with tea and cookies! It was refreshing to rest a bit there and she gave outstanding directions, and help. Our rooms were clean and lovely. Breakfast was first class. Thank you to the chef, and the entire staff. Lisdoonvarna is a charming town and we will return again and again! Thank you Martina for your kind assistance!!!.....

Stayed for 2 nights on their dinner, bed & breakfast deal, which was reasonably priced. Very warm welcome from Martina, who was also very helpful in giving advice on places to see (and to avoid the main tourist routes!).
Good sized bedroom and well-appointed bathroom, though bathroom lighting very dim. Comfortable beds. Some road noise and thin walls between rooms.
Dinner excellent both nights. Cooked to order and very good fish/lamb. Menu does not change so would be difficult after more than 3 nights. Well-chosen wine list. Breakfast very good too.
Nice sitting area and plenty of parking. Good centre for exploring Clare, though village is quiet. Would recommend.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay with us at Sheedys, and I look forward to welcoming you both back soon. I agree that the lighting in your bathroom was poor at the time - this has since been rectified.

My husband and I were part of a small bicycle tour group that stayed at Sheedy's for two nights in June. We absolutely loved this place! As soon as we arrived, Martina greeted us warmly and made us feel like we were family returning home. The country house is charming and inviting. The rooms are very spacious and kept immaculately clean. After a long day of biking, it was a wonderful place to come home to. We could soak in the tub, dry off with a heated towel, relax in the sitting area in our room before heading to the dining room for a gourmet dinner, read books from the library, and enjoy after dinner drinks in the bar or in front of the fireplace before retiring to a very comfortable bed. Sheedy's is also very conveniently located to downtown Lisdoonvarna and we walked 5 minutes into town one evening to listen to some Irish music in the pub. Sheedy's was one of the best places we stayed during our stay in Ireland.

Pretty much everything you've read on the previous reviews about Sheedys is accurate... apart from the one about the cabbage smells- something we didn't experience. Like everyone else, we found Martina to be warm in her welcome and helpful in sorting our booking for a boat trip or following up on our enquirires about local events or walks. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. The weather was sunny during our 3 night visit and even though there is a pleasant seating area inside, we felt that a seating area in the garden would have enhanced our stay. As the headline suggests the food is the star of the hotel. The breakfast ( silver service and linen napkins- lovely!) was a choice from an imaginative and extensive menu- apricots in a liquer with yoghurt - delicious! We had two dinners at Sheedys and both were superb. The choice within the dinner menu is fairly limited, though not at the expense of the quality, and we would have struggled to find something which would have suited everyone for a third night. That said what we had was very tasty, the belly pork really did melt in my mouth. We ate at a local bar for one evening.
Whilst you are their ask Martina about local ceilidhs: go to one and join in.
If you are prepared to drive a little way go to Ballyvaughan for lunch in the Tea and garden rooms... wonderful meringues with a berry compote. Of course you should have earned this treat by doing some walking along the beach at Fanore.
In all Sheedys provided a great base for exploring the Burren and surroundings.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel direct and speak to Martina to get the best rooms and prices

SHEEDY'S COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL& RESTAURANT-LISDOONVARNA, IRELAND

This is another experience we must simply tell YOU NOT TO MISS!
Traveling through Ireland to this point has been adventures in many different forms from grand disappointment to the most exciting of a lifetime! Sheedy's Country House and Restaurant is no exception. In fact, we would tell you that if you are going to visit Doolin, drive a few minutes further and stay and dine in Lisdoonvarna at Sheedy's. It is a convenient location to reach the Aran Islands our tour the Cliffs of Moher but advise that you do that differently. (You can see my review about that subject matter on Trip Advisor as well)

John and Martina will hold your attention with their charm, wit and compassion as your feel that you have become an extended part of their family. As you approach their entrance of this three hundred year old family home you first have to walk past the lovely flower garden and walkway.

On an evening with a mild breeze, as it was when we were there, the aroma from the roses and sweet flowers set the mood for what you find once you open the doors to Sheedy's. If first impressions tell you what you can expect, then you will feel extreme satisfaction from the time you drive up until you leave.
Sheedy's was quite different from anywhere we had ever been before. In the past when we had dined out we were taken to the dining area and there you waited to be served. Not so here! We were led to the foyer next to the fire where we could sit and enjoy a beverage of our choice and where they served us hors d'oeuvres. Here is a quote from their web page and it is certainly true enough!

"John started his career as a chef in the mid 1980s in the Michelin Star restaurant of the Plaza Athénée in Paris before returning to Ireland to the Blue Book Property, Longueville House in Mallow Co. Cork. While at Longueville, he was responsible for a team that earned the restaurant five Michelin Bib Gourmand ratings over five different years. The bib Gourmand rating means the restaurant is a Michelin inspector's favorite for good food at moderate prices - a principle that John stands over in his own restaurant at Sheedy's in Lisdoonvarna".

John moved on from the Longueville House to the world known Ashford Castle as Chef for nine years and afterwards cooked for many dignitaries for the opening of Ellis Island. He even did a program on World Class Cuisine for the Discovery Channel so you can see what an incredible treat you palettes are in for when you dine there. With all this experience you would think this would be a "Stuck Up" atmosphere with matching hosts but just the opposite!
This Hotel and Restaurant has one of the most immersive and compassionate locations in all of the country. You will not leave here hungry or mistreated.

Martina makes sure that each guest in treated as though they were her only guest with several visits to your table during dinner to be sure that your service, meal, and even beverage is all that you expected and more. As I said earlier, Martina is a very pleasant and kind woman with only one thing on her mind-YOU!! How nice it felt to be pampered like this. We can honestly say after three weeks of dining out (and a week in the Caymans before arriving in Ireland) that there were only two places that catered to their customers like this and Sheedy's is one of them! Martina met John while she was also in the employ of Ashford Castle, were married and bought the Sheedy's Hotel from John's parents and it continues to be a warm inviting dream to enjoy while you explore that part of Ireland. You DO NOT want to miss out on this fabulous location where every wish can come true!

Be sure to see the web page for more interesting facts and photos.

Please say hello to them both when you too visit there for your dreams come true!

Enjoy!

Stayed here in June 2011 with my wife. Got a good deal and enjoyed the stay. Hotel was clean and the staff (especially management) were very friendly. Dinner was very nice, though I thought that the a la carte was a little bit expensive. However the quality of the food was very high. Breakfast was especially good and really set us up for the day. The hotel was the best thing about Lisdoonvarna, and is an excellent base for visiting the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.

This was the poshest place we stayed in our two weeks in Ireland. It is pricey, but if you take advantage of what it offers it will be worth the money. Rooms are large, ours had a separate sitting area and our bath had separate shower and tub and two sinks. Everything spotless, bed very comfortable. Parking off the street right by the front door, on their property. Public rooms downstairs were comfortable and well stocked with music, games, and books. Gardens out front large and fun to walk through with interesting healthy plants and flowers for the gardening enthusiast. Food was outstanding, by far the best version of the typical “full Irish breakfast” we had on the trip. Wished we’d eaten dinner here, both pub menu and full dinner menu looked great, clearly the best choice in town. The town of Lisdoonvarna itself is not much, but it is a great base for exploring the Burren. Silly of us not to stay here two nights to take advantage of the accommodations and the sights nearby. A couple of drawbacks – wi-fi available only in the library room on the first floor, and there it was very weak – would have been glad to trade that second bathroom sink for internet in the room. The hostess was very accommodating and forthcoming with info, but was slightly overbearing in kind of a creepy way.
