“Fabulous hotel”

We love this hotel; the ambiance, the history, the beautiful setting, fantastic food with warm and friendly staff. We can't recommend this hotel enough - if you like an old traditional Irish hotel this is it. You can't beat it. Very romantic, but also good for families. Donegal is a special place - a time apart. You can't help but wind down several gears here and completely relax...

Rathmullan House has been an institution in Donegal tourism for half a century . We had been fairly regular visitors at an earlier time, but had not stayed there for quite a few years. We were interested to see how it measured up to its past reputation, especially now that it has grown significantly bigger with two new wings and a larger dining room.

Some things have not changed. The location is one of the best in ireland, with easy access through excellent grounds to a long sweeping beach with views across Lough Swilly. The hotel is very well kept and very comfortable, with open fires and interesting decor. We had a "standard" double room, and it was spacious and comfortable: some hotels would have passed it off as a junior suite. The food was always a highlight; it is now good rather than outstanding. The menu is less varied than before, and seems to change less from day to day; the dessert menu was especially restricted. But breakfast was excellent.

Rathmullan was always a special experience, and still is. If you have no tbeen there before, then do go: you will not regret it. If, like us, you have memories of what it used to be like then you will probably be a bit disappointed, but I think you will still enjoy it.

It takes much further than you'd think to get to this hotel, tucked away on teh shores of Lough Swilly in Donegal. The food is excellent, with a large emphasis on locally grown produce and caught seafood. But I thought there was a funny smell in the bathroom.

We all enjoyed our stay at this country house hotel.
The setting is gorgeous what with the immaculate beach just a very short walk from the front of the house.
The food is top class, and there's lots to choose from, from local game to seafood, it has to be one of the best restaurants I have been to, very memorable!
This is definitely a place I would love to return to.

We got married at Rathmullan House on 13th October 2011 and it was just incredible. Our party began the night before the wedding with Irish Stew and a trad session in Cellar Bar. The hotel sensibly sent everyone to bed early before the wedding day. A lovely touch. The wedding day went without a hitch with everything from the ceremony to the drinks reception to the formal meal to the dance to the midnight munchies back in the Cellar bar sparkling with seamless, informal efficiency and warmth.
The food was simply fantastic.
The service, particularly from the young staff, attentive and lovely but never stuffy. All our guests, young and old, were made to feel welcome and important.
They even managed to lay on a sunny day!
As a wedding venue Rathmullan House was everything we could ever have wanted.

My wife and I have stayed here many times and is well worth every penny. On one ocassion I had a toothache at 3:00am and although the manager couldnt give me any painkillers he didnt mind sitting in the lounge with me while I had 3 hot whiskies for "medicinal" purposes. All the staff are very friendly, the food is superb, the location idyllic and the overall experience is a fantastic way to chill out and recharge your batteries. Superior rooms are worth the extra cost and convenient for the indoor pool.
