stayed here for 3 nights in april and had an awesome stay. we got the choice of rooms as it was off season. hugh and wife really friendly, and the views over the village are stunning. lots of room for parking. comfy beds. excellent. 5 minutes walk out of the village but i thought that was actually better.

My husband and I spent two nights in Ardara and we just loved it. We heard wonderful music, ate delicious food and enjoyed our stay at the Abbey Lodge. The bed and breakfast is a five minute walk from most of the pubs in town and has wonderful views of the bay. Hugh was warm, funny and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed his witty sayings and stories and especially his laid-back attitude. We both were so sad to leave and excited to go back!

This B&B is on top of a hill, with great views of the bay to the south and mountains all around, from either of two living rooms and the breakfast room. And just a short walk into town for dinner or stores - good place to get Irish sweaters. Hugh cooks a great breakfast and is helpful on what to see. We enjoyed two nights there.

Room Tip: Room 4 has the best view, and 5 and 6 are on same level. 3 is near the front, and 1 and 2 downstai...

We are regular visitors to Ardara but this is the first time we stayed in the Abbey Lodge. Can't really add much to what has already been said. Hugh is a wonderful and accommodating host and this typical B&B is very well placed in the town. The view from room 4 and the public areas is breath taking. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in!

Abbey Lodge is an adequate B&B in a town where there is not much choice. Hugh is a great host - very welcoming, friendly and cheerful. The property benefits from three large general rooms - a lounge, a general room (with internet) and a dining room. However this is a man's house - few soft touches, the large rooms needing more furniture, empty bookcases and no nice little extras. We had a good size bedroom with a great view to the west over the sea, but from most rooms the view was not so good. All bedrooms seemed large enough. The bathrooms are dated and in need of improvement. The cooked breakfasts were very generous, the standard continental breakfast looked OK. It was one of the more expensive B&Bs we stayed at during a tour of Donegal, so need to question value for money. Hugh didn't seem to live at the property - meaning that you and other guests largely have the house to yourselves. Is this ideal? You decide.

My two sisters and our three daughters just returned from ten days in Donegal. We stayed three nights in Ardara at Abbey Lodge and it was the favorite place we stayed for all six of us. The rooms are well equipped, the setting is a short walk to town and the views from the sitting room are spectacular. But what sets Abbey Lodge apart is its proprietor, Hugh. He couldn't have been more accommodating to us, suggesting places to visit to hear Irish music, even adding fabulous Irish bread, butter and jam to our planned picnic lunch. While he didn't produce the six Irishmen he promised us (joke!), he delivered a wonderful memory of Irish humor and hospitality!

We stayed one night here - had a very warm welcome from Hugh who plied us with tea and sandwiches on arrival. A beautifully located B&B, with views over the town and mountains from one window and town and sea from another. It wasn't busy, possibly because, and this is our only criticism, at 80 euros it was quite pricey. The 'public' rooms were big and numerous - 3 in total. After we had eaten in the town we came back with a bottle of wine and enjoyed it in the comfortable lounge . A very pleasant stay.
