Stayed Friday to Sunday. Arrived just before 9 pm to a closed restaurant, an empty bar , and food finished (despite it saying 9:30 in the room guide) - we spoke to a pleasant young man in reception who told us he thought the only food we'd get in Kilkee was chipper that late, and proceeded to direct us to two. Thankfully he was incorrect and we had a fabulous meal in the nearby Stella Maris, which we arrived at for 9:15pm

Room was small but clean - no Wifi in the room, though there was in reception.

Staff in the hotel were pleasant and helpful, and patient - which is a vital qualification here , as there are management issues which appear to put them in the firing line more than necessary.

We requested extra pillows when going to town (9pm) but on our return close to midnight they had not arrived, and we had to phone down. Got them soon after this. Bed was comfy and room temp was good.

Breakfast was fair the next day - self service, and food was acceptable but nothing special - staff again pleasant and helpful - coffee was excellent.

We toured loop head, and arrived back about 3 pm. Room had not been serviced yet. We returned to lobby to relax (bar not open, restaurant not open) we requested tea and coffee and the wonderful girl in reception went to the bar, made it and served us in lobby - very helpful.

There was a cycle coming from Limerick, and apparently 13 rooms were booked by this group - the cycle arrived shortly before 4, there were no refreshments, and at that point the bar had just opened. The cyclists and their families milled about, some into the bar , some to their rooms. I thought this would have been a great opportunity to welcome so many guests with fruit, juice or water, tea and coffee - it would have cost little and won much goodwill. That night there was no music in the bar , which again was a chance missed to hold this crowd in the hotel - we saw most of them later that night in a bar/restaurant on the seafront. Meanwhile the hotel bar was quiet , with a few diners (not us) and couples dotted about.

There was one couple near us who were booked , but had no room available - the staff on hand worked really hard to mollify them , but a few free drinks and a b&b wouldn't have done it for me either - I wonder why they were not offered one of the holiday apts next door as compensation , though maybe they are not attached to the hotel ? Most were empty . No manager attended these people while we were there, and their issues were left to the wonderful girl who seems to do every job, from reception to bar to dining room , and the young man we met on the first night , both of whom should be commended for their patience and caring in a poor situation that clearly required a manager to handle in a more private setting.

This hotel could be a great spot - I think it may have suffered a bit with end of season hangover this weekend , but every guest has the possibility to be repeat business, and your best advertisement. Crying out for creative management and a little investment to turn this from a warm bed to a quality family hotel - welcoming and warm .

I would possibly return, but might give Stella a try next time.

We booked this hotel on Dealrush and I have to say it was the worst hotel we ever stayed in and I doubt if there is one near as bad in Ireland. On entering the hotel the reception lacked in every way, first the carpet was so stained with chair covering equally stained to match. We instantly got a bad feeling about our 2 night stay and we were so right. We asked about dinner times and told evening meals were finished as it was out of season, this was Monday 29th August. The carpets all the way to our first floor bedroom were in keeping with the reception area and then the bedroom and bathroom were so outdated, the worst hotel bedroom in every way possible.
Our first reaction was to find another hotel and went to search on my IPad but no WiFi, on checking at reception we were told it was only available in the reception area but there was no connection there either. We then went into the town a found afantastic cafe called the Pantry where we got online and made a booking for the second night elsewhere.
I know the manager might reply and say why did we not complain but to be honest there was no way the situation could be rectified in this hotel because it's gone past it sell by date. The last thing I would want is a discount to for our next visit as we would never consider staying ther again even if we got it for nothing.
We were never so happy to get out of there and on handing the key back I just made an excuse that we had decided we were travelling to Limerick.
On arriving home today I have had a look at this hotel accommodation site and I am nor surprised to note that there's not one picture of the inside of this hotel. To make matters worse there is a photo of a hotel overlooking the beach but this is not the Killkee Bay Hotel, need I say more.

I purched a voucher for the Kilkee Bay Hotel for an overnight stay. We decided to use it on Sunday night the 28th August. I read up the tripadvisor reviews before I went. They were not very assuring. But to our surprise the hotel was not as bad a portrayed at all. Definitely it does need TLC and a lick of paint - but very basic clean room. Bathroom was lovely - spotless white towels and plenty of them. Terrible matress on bed. Only complaint. But for one night!!! The courtesy and helpfulness of the staff certainly made up for any shortcomings. The bar staff were so lovely and friendly as were the reception staff. But to really top it off - the staff in the restaurant the following morning could not be nicer. The breakfast was just excellent. Fresh fruit, beautiful brown home made soda bread and any request fulfilled. So come on management - buy new matresses and you are on a winner - great location - great car parking and a pleasure all around.

Room Tip: Ask for a good matress.

Absolutely horrific, Lorna the receptionist was this hotels saving grace. Rooms awful, two beds had no headboard, shower weak, TV small and ancient and room furniture mixed and matched from the 80s. Food in bar sent back as chicken was cold. Manager refused to speak with us. If you decide to go to kilkee pick somewhere else...anywhere else to save yourself the heartache. Bar, reception, cleaning staff are the only credit to this sad and depressing situation.

Stayed here for two nights with two young kids. After reading the reviews I was worried about staying if I'm honest.
Hotel badly needs some TLC, the carpet on the corridor and stairs is shocking ( so dirty) , wallpaper peeling off the walls.
Rooms are basic but absolutely fine for the money I paid. TV very small but again didn't bother me too much, the camp bed we got was awful, you just could not sleep on it. Rooms were clean.
The staff in the bar and restaurant are lovely, very helpful. Menus in bar misleading, as they offer stuff which they don't have.
The playroom is in the perfect location in the bar and the kids loved it.... however some machines were not working and no Out Of Order signs on it, so our money was taken.... when we questioned the staff about this we were told the machines don't belong to the hotel so they could not refund the money.
On the second evening a man was sitting behind the desk with the receptionist in his normal clothes ( I don't know if he was staff after a shift or a friend chatting with the receptionist) but this is very unprofessional.
Good location, next to the beach.
All in all the hotel staff (bar and restaurant) as lovely, rooms are fine just basic, but the corridors are very run down, hotel is in need of some proper management.

We stayed here for 3 nights last week. The dirty stained carpet on the stairs up to the second floor sent out alarm bells straightaway. The room was very basic. There was a black stain on the curtains and the carpet was also stained. Even the windows were in bad need of a clean. The grouting around the bath was black in places and the toilet seat was crooked. Pleasant staff in the bar and small playroom for the kids was handy.
Great location but in serious need of redecoration and clean-up

Room Tip: stay at the front of hotel
