My wife and I have loved staying at this fantastically equipped Gîte. It has so many little extras such as BBQ equipment, a huge DVD collection and a full range of crockery and kitchen utensils. The owners (Jeremy & Carol) could not have been more helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Tucked away in a quiet and secluded corner of Brittany, this Gîte is perfect for those that wish to relax in a fully equipped, modern and cosy sanctuary. We will definitely be returning!
A well equipped and very comfortable cottage, light and airy with a great barbecue area at the rear. Ideally situated for beautiful woodland walks and Josselin, Pontivy, St Nicholas des Eaux by car. Guern was a pretty little village with a bakery.
Fresh eggs from Carol and Jerry's hens was a bonus.
We booked our week away at the last minute, so have limited choice given it was half term and the UK forecast was RAIN! Anyway, Jerry and Carol replied in double quick time and we booked and paid without hesitation as the pictures and location looked promising.
The property is about 15 minutes from Pontivy and about 6-7 hours drive from Calais or less than 2 hours from St Malo. Pontivy has everything you will need shop wise and allowed us to stock on the essentials. The more local village Guern (15 mins walk or 5 mins drive) has a number of places to eat as well as local shops.
The property was a little hard to find as we relied on our car's satnav. If you used google maps, its easy to locate and just 2 minutes from the main D-road.
We arrived a little later than planned (8pm) but Jerry and Carol (both are British and well travelled - and lovely/accommodating) were there to show us around. Without reservation, we can safely say that the property is the cleanest we have experienced - more so than many high end hotels. Size wise, there is space for 6 and has every facility including very good wifi (sadly I checked the speeds one evening and saw 30mb p/second). Judging by the visitors book and the utterly unmarked interior, we were probably the 4th or 5th occupant.
The lounge is very cosy with a log burner in the main fireplace and there is a good size LCD TV and UK/Sky TV and built in DVD player (movies also stored too plus board games).
The two bedrooms were light and airy, with amazing blackout blinds in the Velux windows. All fixers, fittings and bedding were of good quality and the bathroom has an amazing shower rather than traditional bath - suited us fine!
At the time of our visit, the hot tub wasn't available but from June onwards it should be up and running. The only tiny point we would have liked (and should have suggested) was a lack of another mirror in addition to the bathroom and perhaps the main sofa could mark dry easily (we were religious about covering it with blackest and throws as we have two young children.
In a nutshell, if you want to escape from noise and city life (we are London based) and want to explore Brittany, you couldn't don much better than this for a family or friends. Jerry and Carol clearly have worked incredibly hard to renovate this give and we wish them very well and have already recommended the property to friends and family.
