Part of the the local history. A stunning building and easy to find in the city of Rochefort. Striking in appearance and well reserved. A real feature for the place. Well worth visiting.

A lot of effort has gone into making this a fun and educational day out. Not only do you have a castle with a moat but also you get to dress up and take part in lots of activities from the middle ages. We really enjoyed the trebuchet show even though the kids didn't understand a word as it was in French.

Having the opportunity to dress up like a knave, lady or lord complete with wooden sword and shield, even if you're an adult, sets the mood for a fun visit.

Activites are held throughout the day such as stories about the history of the castle with audeince participation and our favourite the demonstration of a trebuchet which fired a plastic ball at the castle walls. The demos and stories are done in French so if you're language skills are rusty or you have young kids with you it may be hard to follow.

Otherwise, there are many activites for kids to get involved in from archery, skittles, hook the duck, 'textured' pathways to walk down, a recreated peasent hovel and motte and bailey castle among others.

We spent about 3 hours here.

A great morning or afternoon out in the open air. Brilliant castle, well renovated. Extremely educational and yet not boring!

A gem of a chateaux set up to give you a real idea of Castle life - drive warfare, crime & punishment, daily life, costume ... Dress up if you want, play the games & enjoy the cafe. Run by welcoming, friendly hosts who clearly care. Pretty little castle kittens, goats, poultry. Lots to do and freedom to choose how and in what order.

Every bit as good as the pictures make it out to be. A stunning little castle surrounded by masses of little bits and bobs to try out, from games, to climbing frames, some animals, catapults, walled garden etc. All of it enough to keep little children exploring for hours. The castle may be small but it's worth the long trip to go and see. Maybe take your own food though, the cafe serves a nice croque madam, but very little else.

Just spent the dat there with my wife daughter and granddaughter. It was suburb. As someone's who's French is not up to scratch, it was easy to follow the guide posters and quiz which led us round the fort. The place was very educational without being formal and stuffy. My granddaughter loved dressing up as did I. "Well you don't mind looking a fool on holiday". The staff were helpful and friendly. Snacks were available but we took a picnic which we ate at the tables within the castle grounds. Once again a great days family entertainment.

Story book restored castle with small keep surrounded by a water filled moat. Lots to see and do with reproduction armour and weapons worn and wielded by staff . Excellent tableaux inside the living areas of the keep plus you could see the staff's penchant for Nutella in their restroom!

Stunning views from the towers and the highlight was the launching of the working trebuchet.

Really worth a visit even though the drains were a bit smelly!

We arrived just before 5pm and were the last to leave. Our children loved the fact we could all dress up and explore the Fort in medieval clothes. The quiz is fantastic and ensures you get to explore every part of the Fort & grounds. Great games for the children to try too. A real hit with all the family and highly recommend a visit.
