“lovely apartment with amazing views”
Reviewed August 3, 2012 for a stay in June 2011

I felt obliged to write a review after reading the very negative review of Bella Vita Uno. I stayed here with my boyfriend in Jun 2011. I found the management company very helpful when booking and they provided us with quite a detailed information booklet.
I do agree with the unhappy reviewer that the descent from fiumelatte train station with baggage is a bit of a struggle. We couldn't find a shorter way down- there is about 100 steps I would say. We returned to Milan via Varenna train station which has no steps!
We found the apartment more than met our needs. It was clean, bright, airy and nicely decorated. The bedroom is quite small, as is the bathroom. There is a fullly appointed kitchen with adjoining sitting room. Large glass doors open out from the kitchen to a massive balcony with an amazing view of lake como. Sun loungers and table and chairs are provided for the balcony.
Fiumelatte is a tiny village but it has one small, excellent, bakery/deli which we bought all our lunch in. I would recommend stopping off in the supermarket in Milan train station to pick up a few essentials before you get to Fiumelatte. The walk into Varenna is about 20 minutes. We walked in and home every night but you can get a taxi- just ask in varenna for a number- all the restaurants have contacts.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Vvarenna is a beautiful place to visit, its much quieter than Bellagio which is overrun with tourists in Summer.

“Great appartment with excellent views ...”
Reviewed September 30, 2011 for a stay in June 2011

We stayed in Bella Vita Uno during June and found that the apartment totally met our needs.

Before our holiday we received an information pack which detailed how to get to the appartment and how to get the keys, making arrival very smooth. The parking garage was found very easily and the elevator took us most of the way to the appartment (it only goes to the level below so a flight of steps takes you to the appartment, which may be an issue with regards to luggage for some). The appartment itself consists of a living area/kitchen, a bathroom and one bedroom - ideal for two, maybe a little ackward for four adults - all very clean, with some basic supplies. However the highlight is the view outside - we spent most of our evenings sitting outside on the terrace, rather than in the appartment, even on the wet nights (there is a large canopy which covers the seating area well for such nights!).

Only negatives I could mention was that the DVD player didn't work and the Internet doesn't seem to work in the actual appartment (but does outside). We contacted the support email address supplied for the appartment but are still waiting for a reply!

We had a car so getting around for us wasn't really an issue, but even without Varenna is only about a 20/30 minute walk or a 2/3 minute train journey from where ferries can be taken around the lake, or trains to e.g. Milan.

If you are looking for a decent appartment to base travelling around Lake Como then I would recommend this appartment - we used our car and the train (station at the back of the complex)

“GREAT VIEWS FROM BRAND NEW APARTMENT”
Reviewed September 2, 2011 for a stay in July 2010

I read the clueless negative review someone wrote about this apartment and I had to respond...having stayed in these owners apartments before I understand what quality they provide in their places....everything is perfect ! Brand new kitchen, furnishings, and bathroom.
The view is incredible, with a HUGE TERRACE, completely framing Varenna, Bellagio, and Mennagio....these owners in their quest for perfection even had the mandatory gas lines and gas meter boxed with color coordinated paint to disguise them...IT IS ALL IN THE DETAILS !...
I further want to point out the meaness of the other reveiw, as I live in hotels 200+ days a year and have chalked up 5,000+ hotel stays throughout the world, but especially in Italy, I can assure you this is ULTRA COOL PAD...My standards are high.
The other reiview stated that the management company stated that this apartment was directly linked by elevator to the train station...I should think that does not exist anywhere in the world,, nor would I want someone looking for the toilette in the train station showing up in my bathroom ! (but you have the FIUMELATTE train station right on the property 5 minutes walk, with no train sounds due to the terraced slope it is built upon and the all modern construction replacing the original bricks with the mandatory earthquake and sound proof modern bricks you must buid with now)
You should take a taxi from the Varenna train station for 11 euros if you have luggage on arrival or departure ( there is an include gated garage directly linked by elevator to the apartments floor level if you have your own rental car) or walk right out of the Fiumelatte station down to the Main Street where you have to pick up the keys from the lock box anyway...going the way the other reveiwer went is all of 5 minutes to the road but has steeper steps...please note that going down the steeper *IL MOLINO* walk takes you past a gorgeous waterfall and rushing river...DONT MISS CHECKING IT OUT ! I took over 250 photos of the surronding gardens and on the incredible walk to Varenna, the VIA ANDANTE.
I love this complex of apartments originally built in 1605 as the gardens and workers quarters of the VILLA CAPOANA, they are all built around a private waterfall that is illuminated by the city of Varenna at night.
Compared to the hotels in town this is the obvious way to go, a short walk to the best town on Lake Como (VARENNA)and the best cornetti and bread sold at the alimentari 30 seconds to the right of the building, FIUMELATTE ROCKS !!!

“Don't even consider this place”
Reviewed June 7, 2011 for a stay in May 2011

We spent time trying to check this place out before we booked. With limited information we knew we were taking a chance, particularly since they require full prepayment. Let that be a lesson to all of us. We will NEVER prepay again. before we booked, we phoned the management company to talk about some of our concerns....is there easy access?..will we need a car?....how do we get there?
We were told..."you can access the elevator into the apartments directly from the train station. The train stops virtyally right at the door. There is easy access to ferries and trains vlose by."

What a nightmare!
When we arrived we found ourselves on the grassy platform of the Fiumellatte train station. The access to the apartments is hidden and only available if you are already checked in and have the keys......No good if you are arriving for the first day with luggage. The management company had neglected to tell us that. We dragged our suitcases down about six rugged flights of cobblestone stairs....all up about one hundred and twenty steps down to the road level....around six stories lower from the train.
We arrived to find an apartment with the most basic furnishings....and the bare minimum ammenities. No soap, no shampoo, no paper towels ...virtually nothing else. Here we are in the middle of nowhere with no supplies....and the local shop is closed for the day and will be closed the following day too!
The nightmare continues.....we phoned the emergency contact number to express our dismay. The owner sent his wife along to see what the trouble was. She arrived with some basic supllies and advised us that it was just the way it is....they dont supply those things usually..." but look...isnt the view terrific..and isnt the built in wardrobe wonderful?" We were absolutely dumbfounded and horrified......we knew we had made an horrendous mistake. We asked if we could get a partial refund if we left immediately. She said no.....and left.

We complained also to the management company, Happy Holiday Homes. they were totally unsympathetic and they basically ignored us and said they'd checked what their people said and said their staff had described the place exactly and had told us about the steps. In fact, it became obvious to us that Happy Holiday Homes were lying to us.

The next day we met Aussie neighbors in the apartment next door and we found they were in exactly the same position. They had prepaid ten days and were dreading the trip back up to the train station and dint really know how they could do it. They had also complained ro Happy Holiday Homes who had expressed the same surprise that they had never heard of any difficulty with other guests.

After the first day on beautiful Lake Come it was obvious to us that the east coast of the lake is a far less desirable place to stay than the other side. Upon investigation we quickly gound far better accoommodation at virtually the same price in the Tremezzo area...a far more civilised place to stay.

Give this place a wide berth...please...go somewhere else and avoid the nightmare of Unhappy Holiday Homes.

Our advice....stay clear of this joint.

We toughed it out for four days of the seven we paid for.....and finally left with screams of joy.
