Decided to try the Priory for lunch on my husbands birthday. It wasn't busy when we arrived and we chose our table..the menu was brought within a minute or two. we were given enough time to take a look and ordered within about 5 minutes. Martin chose steak pie and I had Beef Stroganoff......the pie had large pieces of succulent beef in a very good gravy, a selection of veg and large chips..he was very impressed. my Stroganoff likewise had plenty of beef and mushrooms and I too got the big chips and a portion of rice.. We opted for tea/coffee with our meal. Not the cheapest lunch but definitely good value for money. friendly staff who were happy to chat..we had a laugh that the girl forgot Martins second coffee. We will go there again and don't hesitate to recommend it..

Room Tip: we did not stay...just had lunch

Had overnight stay to celebrate wedding anniversary. Lovely mix of old and newer buildings. Helpful friendly staff, pretty room. Could have done with better lighting and mirror in bathroom fixed at a height suitable for people of normal height and not giants. At 5ft 8ins I couldn't even see into it. Comfy bed, good shower. Food in restaurant slightly disappointing. Stilton and Broccoli soup a little bland (more Stilton please) and Boeuf Bourguignon poor & quite tasteless. Silverskin onions instead of shallots and couldn't taste any wine in the sauce. Had skinny fries with mine. They were more like a packet of potato sticks!!!! In the morning breakfast was excellent, good choice available and cooked freshly to order. Would go back again but be a little wary over what I ordered for dinner next time.

We were invited to our friends wedding and booked a room to stay over. Wow, the room the ceremony and subsequent meal took place in was beautiful and was decorated in a Christmassy theme. The meal was lovely and there was plenty of it. Our room was adequate, not fancy but perfectly fine, with a huge bath. The breakfast was beautiful, I had everyone's black pudding as they don't like it

All in all, a very enjoyable and welcoming place.

did not stay in hotel just visited for an early evening meal. The surrounding are excellent, staff friendly and very attenative, food was nice presented and first class. The ambience is quite something and very pleasant to spend time.
It was a nice time to visit in the very very early evening.
