We spent one night here before heading to Placencia. The room was amazing with a balcony overlooking the river where we sat and enjoyed the monkeys and birds. We had a very restful night after enjoying dinner and wine in the dining room. Earlier we had drinks in the little bar just off the dining room. Everything was very clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our stay included a ride to the airport.

A friend and I stayed here for one night only at the end of our 9 day trip to Belize. We had chosen it primarily for its location near the airport and because many hotels in Belize City itself sounded pretty sketchy. We were very pleasantly surprised! The presentation on Black Orchid's website does not do justice to the hotel. The staff is friendly and efficient, the location terrific, their swimming pool lovely and refreshing. There were well-placed and inviting hammocks and a slew of kayaks and paddle boats and bicycles for guests to borrow. We had a wonderful time paddling up the river in a kayak. There were howler monkeys in the trees nearby. The food was pretty good, if not great. Altogether, a very relaxing and well-managed oasis.

We stayed at this location for 3 nights with our small children. The wild life was amazing, Howler monkeys and an assortment of birds in the trees surrounding us. The hotel is small, safe and comfortable on the river bank. Bev made us feel like family and when we came back through a week later for our return flight we stopped to say goodbye and have one more awesome meal!

The Black Orchid is acutally in Burrell Boom, or Ladyville - which in fact is a superior location in my opinion to staying in Belize City. Why? It is quiet, safer, closer to the airport and the resort itself if far better than anything you can locate currently in Belize City. The staff is very, nice, and most willing to help with anything you need. In addition, the Black Orchid will rent you a car (for a better price than I found in the city). They will picked us up at the airport, no charge and when we came back from San Pedro, to spend our last night in Belize, they drove us to the airport the next morning.

You must remember where you are, this is Belize so don't expect palatial extravagent "americanized" resort. If you want that you should look into going accross the water to San Pedro. If you are staying on the mainland, this place is great. My sister in law has been going for many years to Belize and said she can't believe she had not found this place hereself. She now stays there every trip. This is like staying at friends private home in their guest cabanna. The country is rustic and so is this very quaint little resort. The linens reminded me of the patchwork blanket my great grandmother made. They have a nice pool, we didn't swim in the river, lovely hammocks out back to just lay in and chill out. This being said, the beds were very comfortable, the rooms very clean, the grounds well kept and the food they served at the onsite restaurant was very good. You should be aware that in Belize everything is made fresh so you will wait for the food to be prepared and it is common if you come late to find certain selections on the menu no longer available. (The supply for the day having been consumed) For breakfast GET THE FRIED JACK WITH HONEY! We ate breakfast in the screened in eating area off the restaurant and my kids sat and watched the monkeys in the trees, eating their breakfast of green leaves. We spent our first 2 days in Belize here before traveling to San Pedro for 5 nights and then returned here for our last night before flying back home. If you are staying on the mainland, this is your place.

Room Tip: We stayed in a river view room towards the back of the resort, it was near to pool but really all rooms appear to be in good proximity to the pool and the bar/restaurant/front offices.

We stayed at Black Orchid for one night, our last night in Belize, because it is close to the airport. This is a lovely place on the river and our biggest regret is that we didn't have more time to experience it. Beverly, the assistant manager, embodies the positive characteristics of the Belizean people; she is gracious, accommodating and pleasant. She took great care of us. The food was so good. It is all freshly prepared and each meal we had was outstanding. The place is pretty low-key. Great to just hang out in the screened-in dining area and watch the river, the parrot, the iguanas, and the howler monkeys! Our room was on the top floor, overlooking the river. The furnishings do not carry an overwhelming impact, but the room was very clean, the beds were very comfortable, the veranda was lovely, and the bathroom was large and well designed; tiled in attractive Mexican (maybe Belizean?) tiles. We really liked Black Orchid!
