Visited here with 20 people following s funeral at the nearby crematorium. It had been booked and a price agreed. There was enough staff to serve behind the bar, 2 or3 real ales on hand pump, and the beer was well looked after. When the buffet was brought out it was very good quality and more than enough for the number catered for. The chips were properly home made, the sandwiches etc were well presented and nicely filled. A nice selection of cheese was there and later a variety of gateaux were bright out. Overall it was excellent value and quality and I would recommend this place if you are looking for a post funeral venue or for any other type of gathering. It doesn't score 5 primarily because there is no beer garden which is a shame, but it doesn't spoil the place, it would just be a nice addition.

Have only been to the Railway for breakfast on the weekend so that's what this review covers. Less than usual in this area to find a place even open for breakfast so finding one that is good is a treat. Standard offerings - full English, etc. Nice omelet. Decent Bloody Marys!

A group of 4 called for Sunday lunch, the place was empty and unwelcoming, no landlord present just a young girl running the bar and the kitchen, we ordered our meals and the food arrived, nicely presented, but it was all frozen produce. we expected fresh food as the prices are so steep, and we were amazed to see how many dogs are allowed into the area where people are eating, we drank up and left ,

The Railway is a pub I've known and frequented. Sometimes a local and more recently as a stranger.
Now I'm not sure where to put myself. Some of my closest friends call it their local. Why not, it has local written all over it and the new landlord and landlady are exactly what you want in a host, they just are find out for your self.
A cold beef sandwich in the world of excellence is from a joint of beef that was cooked so well, that the rare slices the next day.............. well if you know you know,,,,

And if you don't , visit the Railway

Oh by the way the pickles nice

My boyfriend and I decided to visit the Railway since it was recently reopened. Rather than go in the week, we decided to wait until the weekend and go on a Saturday night when it would be a bit livelier. Or so we thought...

We got there around 8.30pm and there were a few people there. But one by one customers started to leave and weren't replaced. It got to around 9.30pm and there were a total of 5 customers in the pub, including two of us.

Rather than being private and cosy, the management decided to have Casualty blaring out on a tv in the corner, rather than having any music playing. This meant that rather than the relaxing night away we were hoping for, we were left trying to have a quiet conversation whilst Doris has having open heart surgery on the tv inches from our heads. Nobody else was talking, the atmosphere was horrifically painful.

We lasted until 10pm and left two customers in the entire pub.

This used to be a cracking pub and has so much potential. Get some tunes on in the evening, light the fires and create some form of atmosphere and I don't see any reason why it can't compete with the Butlers. But, whilst the current management are in place and liken the place to a morgue, The Railway will continue to suffer and will never recover.
