We were on an organised trip with 2 others and had our own boat which was gerfect as some of the other boats were very crowded. Take care who you book with to avoid this crowding. The trip went well and we saw a few interesting things on the way (snake, potoo) and then to the finale - the scarlet ibis. It was spectacular but due to the time of year we went there weren't as many birds coming in as you always see on the photos. This disappointed me a bit but it was still amazing to see their colour.

We had a most memorable experience visiting Caroni Swamp with Nanan Tours (which had been highly recommended by the hotel where we were staying). The hundreds of Scarlet Ibis "coming home" at dusk are incredible, and the highlight, but the rest of the trip is also amazing. We were able to spot a variety of wildlife, including a number of very interesting tree snakes. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and able to answer all questions. We were not told about Caroni ahead of time (we were in Trinidad for other reasons than tourism), but when the recommendation was made to us, we decided to go, and did not regret one minute. We were also obviously highly impresssed with the Nanan family and will do it again when we next return to Trinidad! Gordon and Betsy Stevenson

Peaceful, serene and awesome! Seeing the Scarlet Ibis in their glory and beauty, coming in for their evening's rest was thrilling. The area is gorgeous. Even saw some caiman on the edges. Ideal trip during the dry season, however, you can monitor the weather in the rainy seson. Boat tours are available every day, on the spot. The tour guides are knowledgeable and they point out the minutest details.

Tour boat guides know just where to bring you to experience the amazing spectacle of huge flocks of brilliant-red, scarlett ibis, flying into their roosting areas in the swamp. You arrive just before sunset and get to see many flocks flying in.

Ideal for nature lovers! Enjoy the smooth, relaxing boatride and the cool evening wind as it brushes lightly across your face. The ride begins at 4:00pm-6:30pm. Be sure to walk with a high definition camera. Jus incase rain should fall you will certainly need more than an umbrella. Mosquito repellant may be an asset also
