“Superb resort in North Bali”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2011

Our stay at Royal Residence Rangdu was absolutely fantastic. It was way beyond our expectations. The resort is situated in a very relaxing environment of mountains and rice fields only 20 minutes from Lovina. The views are stunning. The resort consists of a number of beautiful and large villa's with a slight colonial touch. We stayed at a villa named Wana which is a majestic house with a huge terrace surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden full of mango trees. There were literally thousands of mango's hanging in the trees. The staff climbed the trees for us like acrobats and picked the ones that were ripe so we could eat unlimited mango's and drink mango juice from the garden (all organic according to the staff). The staff also picked coconuts from the same garden and served them to us. This was quite an experience. The rooms in the house are very spacious and luxurious. All bedrooms have open bathrooms so you bathe in the sun. The service was perfect and the food excellent. Food can be ordered from a menu with lost of variety. It is prepared in a central kitchen and served by waiters who call themselves butlers. Big advantage is that you can also choose to cook for your self. Supplies can be bought at the supermarket in the nearby town Seririt or at one of the local warungs just down the road. The swimming pool is gorgeous. It is designed to resemble a jungle pond and has an ecofilter so the water contains no chloride. The management can make arrangements for all kinds of activities like fishing trips, dolphin watching, jungle trekking, snorkelling, etc. We didn't do any of this. For us it was more than enough to chill out on the terrace and near the swimming pool. We definitely recommend Royal Residence Rangdu.

With good friends from long time ago, we spend a week in Rangdu in one of the 6 villas. In the morning a fine breakfast was served (I ate bread), but the local food is also tempting. We conducted day trips to the beach at Lovina, to the waterfall at Munduk and the panoramic Lake Tamblingan. One afternoon we were guided by one of the local staff through the closeby rice fields, which gave us a unique view into the lifes of the happy Balinese people. The artistic village of Ubud is only 75 minutes away. Our transport was with a friendly and skillful, but not reckless local driver. Very pleasant in the dense traffic !
The local staff conduct a butler-like service, tailored to the demands and wishes of the guests. They are caring and show a heartwarming friendly hospitalty; much appreciated.
This was a brilliant other view in contrast to the more "confection"-like tourism that one encounters in southern Bali.
This residence is not likely for backpackers, but with a slightly colonial style touch, it offers a genuine rural sense of the other Bali; a bit more calm but nevertheless a great experience. Rangdu bravissimo, . . . I shall return,
Terima kasi, Frederik van der Putten

Room Tip: spatious good bedding, and a luxurious bathroom

My family of 5 recently stayed one week at this beautiful place in North Bali. We had a wonderful time here. We really enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle from the South where we stayed the week before (Seminyak). The accommodation in Rangdu was perfect for us, a beautiful house all to ourselves with spacious bedrooms and huge open bathrooms. Build in an old mango plantation of which most trees are kept in tact. The environment is amazing. Ricefields, mountains and jungle as far as the eye can see from the terrace and bedroom windows. The staff is excellent. Good for us was that you can order food from the menu (the quality of which is good) but you can also cook for your self when you feel like it in a fully equiped kitchen. There are many things to in the surroundings. This was great also for the children. We went hiking in the ricefields and visited some remote villages (no roads!), we vistited two jungle waterfalls, went snorkeling and did a dolfin tour. We definitely want to come back to Rangdu.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Gunung Paradise is an unique luxury boutique villa resort on top of a hill near North Bali coastline. Its beautiful natural environment (one of the greenest of all Bali) is reflected in the way the large villa gardens are shaped. Gunung Paradise comprises one main villa with 2 rentable units with 4+1 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The other villa comprises 3 bedrooms and one bedroom. Both villas offer our guests large outdoor roof covered terraces. So the total number of bedrooms sums up to 7+1. The main villa (Cempaka) has breathaking views to the Bali sea and the Mayong-Munduk valley. Villa Jepun is a garden- and poolview villa. A large (60m2) swimming pool with separate children pool completes the facilities. The top of the hill is 210 m above sealevel which results in a comfortable climate and temperature (max 30 in daytime and min 23 in the night). The resort is adopted by and in the community of Rangdu village what gives us and our guest a rare opportunity to enjoy authentic Balinese life. You can visit our neighbours, the local boarding school or take a guided walk in the village environment and ricefields. Or you can join a special Hindu ceremony with one of our fellow villagers when it occasionally happens. And still you are just 10 min from the beach by car and 20 min from Lovina beach a small touristic beach village with many hotels, restaurants and shops. And on top of that all we provide uncomparable private guest services that goes beyond your expectation. Whether it is the hospitality and personal care your private villa butler gives you or the all day healthy and tasteful meals and drinks we provide or the massages, the yoga class or the trips and tours that we especially designed for our guests. And for those who want to experience more what Bali has to offer on a more spiritual level we also have a few things to offer. ... more   less
