“Serenity and surrounded by nature”
Reviewed October 9, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We had a wonderful stay at Jim and Joan’s cottage, the hospitality and area knowledge they extended to us made our trip even more enjoyable and memorable. The cottage was comfortable and clean. For the two of us there was plenty of space. We were welcomed with olives (from Jim and Joan’s Olive trees) and a continental breakfast for the next day. The farm and its surroundings was scenic and we spotted a family of wild kangaroos on the edge of the property during the stay. Our evenings were blissfully quiet on the property, it's well away from the main road. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals and on the first evening we fired up the BBQ on the deck at sunset. Our favourite space was at the dining table eating breakfast and looking out to the trees, the elevated position of the cottage meant we were at eye level to the top half of the trees. Jim and Joan left some binoculars and a handy information book on the species of birds that you can spot on the property, we saw quite a few at breakfast time. For those wanting a quiet retreat and have a strong interest in Australian nature we recommend a couple of nights at Jilba Cottage. We felt so relaxed afterwards.

There are plenty of nearby hiking trails, including to Castle Rock, an amazing skywalk view from the top. Small boutique wineries are within a five minute drive, highly recommend Castle Rock Winery. For adventurers, there is the hike to the Bluff Knoll summit 1,097 m above sea level (weather permitting).

The closest town for shops and restaurants is either Mt Barker (20 mins drive) or Albany (30 mins drive).

There is loads to see and do in Albany, it would be worth adding an extra week on your stay to explore this area - loads of nature and historical sites. Some great cafes in the town centre too.

If you are driving from Perth, bring along supplies for the evening dinner, that way you can enjoy dinner on the deck and relax!

We enjoyed our stay so much we returned a couple of months later for the new year. It was such a unique stay, to be able to wake up on a farm and surrounded by nature. Loved it!!!

“A well located country escape close to so many great experiences and places to see in the heart of the Perongurups.”
Reviewed September 29, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We have stayed at JILBA as hosts of Joan and Jim Baily several times over the last 5 yrs and look forward to many more.
The first impession was of the great location set up against a Perongurup National Park and the Castle Rock skywalk backdrop. The accommodation is clean and modern and provides a great outlook, from a sweeping balcony, towards the coast and Albany.
Joan and Jim are perfect hosts and have generously assisted us get the most from our varied Perongurup experiences.
JILBA provides a great base to explore a few vineyards, climb up Castle Rock and enjoy the spectacular view from the skywalk, visit the Stirlings or the Albany war memorial or just walk in the national park and enjoy the wildlife and SW scenery.

“Wonderful peaceful accommodation”
Reviewed September 22, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Jilba cottage is beautifully situated on the southern slopes of the Porongurup mountain range in the Great Southern area of Western Australia. The ancient granite Porongurups have long been one of our favourite destinations for walking and sight seeing. The self contained cottage is on a farm specialising in cattle, avocados and olives and comprises two bedrooms, one with ensuite facilities, a spacious lounge/dining area and a fully equipped kitchenette. Everything was fresh, clean and well presented. Views from the balcony were spectacular, looking over the coastal plain to the city of Albany, forty kilometres to the south.
Breakfast ingredients for the first morning were kindly provided and there was enough for the second morning too. Some of the delicious home grown olives were also provided.
Joan and Jim Baily, the friendly owners, have thought of everything to enhance the comfort of their guests and we spent two happy and peaceful days here. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for couples or small families.

“Perfect for a quiet getaway in the Albany area”
Reviewed September 22, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay at Jilba Cottage. It is beautifully appointed and situated at the southern side of the Porongorrups . We really enjoyed a wine on the deck in the evening watching the sun go down over Albany while kangaroos came in from the bush for their evening graze. Jian and Jim are excellent hosts.

Hi Wendy & Jamie, Thank you for taking the time to let Jim & I know that you enjoyed you time in our beautiful part of the world. It has been a pleasure to be able to return some of the lovely hospitality that we have enjoyed at your B & B over the years, on our trips to Perth. We look forward to seeing you both again in the not too distant future.
