Incredible Experience in the Eastern Townships

Review of B&b Hillhouse
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 13, 2019
My brother and I stayed for three nights at the B&B Hillhouse in Lac Brome. Right from the moment we walked up to the property, I knew it was going to be an excellent experience. The beautiful old Victorian-style building has been faithfully restored and is kept immaculately clean. Tasteful decor coupled with gorgeously refinished wood floors greeted us as soon we opened the door. Louise and Gilles were, without a doubt, the most gracious hosts imaginable. They consistently exceeded expectations and the little extras certainly did not go unnoticed.
Every day we would return from skiing and touring around the area to freshly made beds, new linens, towels, and all garbages changed and things tidied up. These are services I would expect at a hotel but certainly not something I thought would be included daily in our stay at a small, inexpensive B&B. Our hosts were also very knowledgeable about the area and quick to make recommendations to point us in the direction of excellent local spots to eat, drink, and learn about the history of the Eastern Townships.
The breakfasts included in this stay were, quite frankly, 100% over-the-top in quality, composition, and presentation. Attached to this review are pictures of just the main course served each morning. Prior to what you see, we were also always served a dish to start us off which ranged from yogurt parfait (layered with fruit, buckwheat, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and dusted with bee pollen) to fresh fruit cocktail to warm homemade banana bread.
In short, our stay at the B&B Hillhouse in Lac-Brome, QC was an amazing experience further enhanced by the hospitality of our hosts, Louise and Gilles. Driving back to the house each day didn't feel like we were going back to a hotel room,...it felt like we were coming home.

Thank you very much for your kind words. You have summed up exactly what we had in mind 6 years ago when we opened the B&B. In general B&B’s are more intimate then Hotel’s, but we wanted to offer more. We wanted people to feel like they were coming home.

Lastly, I would like to say that you and your brother contributed, as much as we did, to making this an experience to remember. Hope to see you soon with your new brides!

Our hosts, Louise & Giles, made us feel so at home.the rooms are lovely and comfortable and so very clean. Each morning we were served the most wonderful breakfasts at a beautifully set table and had lively conversations with other guests. Louise and Giles were very knowlegible about the area and most helpful in directing us to the sights and good restaurants. We had a wonderful trip and felt so lucky to have found this absolute gem.

Stayed at the B&B Hillhouse August 31 & Sept first 2018. Upon arrival we were greeted by our host Gilles who gave us the grand tour of the house. Sooo beautiful and clean. We stayed in the Margaret room (suite). Loved it. Very spacious, bed was extremely comfortable and thank God we had A.C. On our first night, Gilles cooked (extra cost) for our group an amazing duck dinner. Probably the best duck we ever had. Gilles is a great chef and his 2 course breakfast (included) are delicious. Louise always make sure we have everything we need. Gilles and Louise make a great time and they run an immaculate B&B. I highly recommend it.

Gilles and Louise run a wonderful bed and breakfast that makes family out of strangers! We came for author Louise Penny, but the countryside and warm hospitality here will make us return! Gilles offers the most incredible breakfast!

My girlfriend and I stayed with Louise and Gilles for 5 nights and had such a lovely stay! The B&B is on a beautiful property and has a lovely historical feel. The location was central to day trips around the eastern townships, and we had a great time going on cycling trips, visiting local vineyards/cideries, going hiking at Mont Orford and to the spa, and exploring what else the area had to offer.

The hosts were amazing and breakfasts were delicious. Eating with other guests allowed us to practice our french and get recommendations on what to do in the area. Would definitely recommend!

Would also recommend for winter vacations as I believe it's around a 20 minute drive to 4 ski hills.

While this was the 4th visit by our family in 7 months, this was our first, and for me a return to my grandparents' home, which I had not visited in over 40 years. It was extra special to check out the renovations to the home with our family, including two of our grandchildren (ages 9 and 11).
Seasoned travellers recognize what makes the difference between a "good" and an "excellent" stay. It is all in the extra touches provided by warm and welcoming hosts who pride themselves in attention to detail in looking after visitors needs. From catering to guests' needs for room selection, planning breakfast menus to accommodate food preferences/allergies, and taking into consideration any other special needs, Louise and Gilles were exemplary hosts. And, by the way, your bilingual hosts are both also very creative chefs!

Room tip: Only the Margaret Suite has a TV (small). It was great to be able to watch the end of the hockey game together.
