If you like your holidays to be remote & untouristy, then this is the place for you.
The setting is lovely, the villa is huge (there were only four of us) and the owners could not be more helpful.
It was described as 'very quiet' - just what we were after. However, that only apples if the hotel across the valley doesn't have a wedding or event on - then you get to listen to hours of tracks by a fairly average wedding singer and you get to finish your evening to a crescendo of fireworks. Other than that; it is very quiet.
The location means you are about 40 mins from the nearest supermarket. The local ones will cover the basics of bread, milk, pop, etc, but want/need anything more and it is a long, twisty journey into Caserta. There is also no cash machine so make sure you arrive with enough to see you through the week (we never tried to pay by card, but also never saw anyone doing it either). We also never tried the bar or the restaurant, of which there is one of each nearby. A car is an absolute must.
The pool is large but, as with the rest of the villa, a little 'tired'. The pool was filthy when we arrived, but were promised a clean in the next day or so to get rid of the dirt, leaves and dead frog. We had to request this again after it didn't happen, but it was done the same day and made a difference to our desire to chance the water. The pool is not suitable for small children as the shallowest part is about 3 ft deep and the paving stones around it are virtually all loose and coming away. The diving board is a death trap - stay clear! Some of the parasols and sun loungers were broken and so pretty dangerous to use.
The villa too is a little 'tired' (we believe it used to belong to an elderly relative as the stairlift is still fitted) and there are many things missing that you would expect from a holiday villa - kettle, toilet seats, a shower big enough to get a full grown adult in. It's a shame really as with a little thought and investment, this place could be fabulous. Also, make sure you bring your own shower towels - the ones provided will not even go around a fairly slim adult.
We didn't pay a lot and we enjoyed our time - however, with a little effort from the owners, it could have been so much better.
