“Easy access for a great sunset and sunrise”

I rented a motorbike from Chiang Rai and drove about 2,5 hours to get there. Once entering the park, it was quite steep, so you will need to be an experience driver. Once you get to the town, which is quite beautiful, there are plenty of accommodation options. Alternatively, you can camp near the peak, but be aware of strong winds.

The trek from the parking to the peak took 15-20 minutes and was quite easy.

My tips:

- Warm clothes. It is quite chilly in the early morning.
- See both sunrise and sunset. The spot is well known for sunrise over the sea of clouds. I found sunset equally impressive. From the peak you can see both sunrise and sunset!

Trip from Chiang Rai to Phu Chi Fa. Stayed in a basic cabin. Wake up call for 4 a.m. On the mountain for 4.30 a.m. 2 hour wait for sunrise. Be warned - it is very, very busy as sunset approaches. Although sun was partly obscured by cloud, the views are worth all the effort.

Don't get me wrong, the mountain is beautiful and the sunrise is romantic and all, but first of all, it's not a hike to get there, but a 5 min. Walk, so for those that are used to mountains and hiking u'll be disappointed by the walk there
And it's not like you can enjoy the sunrise in peace since you're there with 150 other people, some of them very loud and many of them so eager to get a good picture that they position themselves right in front of you, bump into you, etc....
Some of the locals play loud music and make their little children dance so tourists who have never seen Thai children can snap a pic of them (*sarcasm*).
So if you're looking for a unique experience in the nature, this is not the right thing to do, better go on a trekking trip through the hills and mountains during the day!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

It is surreal. Worth the painful early wake up call. The hike to the top is somewhere between beginner and intermediate. It’s dark, bring a light. And proper shoes. But it’s worth being there before the sun is fully up. The sea fog though!

Since I did not find any 100% sure information about how to get to Phu Chi Fa, I might as well create it myself, maybe someone finds it usefull.
-any tour operator could take you for a sunrise for around 2000THB, nothing for me though
-its possible to get there on a bike from Chiang Rai, but the last part to the top is a little bit difficult for a non skilled driver
-yes, there is a daily bus, or rather a mini van (13seater) going everyday at 1pm and coming back next day at 9am.

We chose the last option and I think we chose well. The return bus ticket is for 300thb and you cannot miss it in Chiang Rai old bus terminal 1 (the big main one). There two old grumpy men selling the tickets and they have also sign in English. Try to buy the ticket in advance and I mean day before even if the meaner old grumpy guy is telling you that you cant buy it day before. We were told the same thing, so we decided that we come back first thing in the morning and buy it, of course it was already sold out.

The ride is 2,5h to a little village under the viewpoint with a plenty of homestays and restaurants. We opted for a tent in a camping near the crossroad going up to viewpoint. They rent a tent with blankets for 300thb, and its a pretty sweet spot for sunset. Next morning we got up at 4am and wanted to walk to the summit but a car stopped midway and took us there. There are also lots of shuttle buses going up at 5am I think (30thb one way).

Take a light jacket for the sunrise it can get windy.

and yes a review- the experience was totally dope and awesome. Really a must when near Chiang Rai. Its a lot touristy but the majority of the people are Thai or Lao I think.
