“La Petite Charrette - Fast Food with a Twist”

La Petite Charrette
Restaurant details

This restaurant was just taken over (previously Ruisseau) renovated with a Quebec wood theme. The menu includes all the popular daily dishes with chicken, hot dogs, poutine, hamburgers in a variety of combinations, sugar shack dishes, soup, salads, wraps, French fries and sweet potato fries, ... as well as ice cream shushes, whips, cones and sundaes. You have to pay first... but they serve the plates at the table. It is nicely served. The new owners and their employees provide very friendly service and it is important to them that people enjoy the place. Naomi is a trained Chef. There is a garden outside with tables and benches, regular table seating on the terrace and a few tables inside too. It is located across from the village public beach. I had their grilled cheese sandwich twice. They offer a choice of bread - mine was on ciabata bread with cheddar, brie, stewed apple slices, and whole pecan nuts, and a small green salad with it. Very good! The coffee was good too, and it was topped generously. Definitely a good spot to stop for a bite when you visit St. Adolphe d'Howard.

Two friends and I visited the New Casse Croute renamed Casse Croute Charette and run by an energetic young couple. It is wonderful to see two young people taking the plunge into the restaurant business, notoriously one of the most difficult.

The star of their menu is the de luxe cheese sandwich which consists of two types of cheese, sharp cheddar and a delightful brie. This with slices of stewed apples and pecan nuts all placed into a toasted fresh roll. The sandwich comes with a healthy serving of ceasar salad. I have tasted one of these delights and my friend calls it the best cheese sandwich of her life. Served with coffee this is a tastey meal worthy of its price. The rest of the menu is good traditional diner food served by friendly people always willing to oblige. Prices are competitive and the ambience is old style Quebecoise.

St-Adolphe-d'Howard is a cute little town with limited choices for food. Casse-Coûte le Ruisseau serves amazing poutine but is not limited to delicious junk food. They also have chicken rotisserie, lunchboxes, healthy meals of the day and they sell meals to go such as containers of soup, mac and cheese, tourtières, meat-stew and much more. You can even call and order in advance exactly what you want to eat. They say that if they have it, they'll make it. Also, recently they started smoked meat sandwiches and they say they'll gradually incorporate more crazy options to their classic menu. In the summer, their ice-cream is really good and they are pleasantly located right in front of the beach. It is so worth the drive!
