“Oh dear!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2012

Kept awake by Italian school children - and their teacher - until complained at 12.45 a.m. Bathroom a disgrace (4th floor, not refurbished) and bedside rugs gross. Breakfast not worth getting up for - machine squash, tea and coffee, stale bread, sweet cereals, no fruit even on request, surly breakfast room staff who were laying up for lunch and made us feel we shouldn't be in their way. On the positive side friendly reception staff, the room was a good size with good storage space and the bed was comfortable. Apart from the children/teenagers the traffic was noisy, there were lots of horns day and night and they were re-building the swimming pool.

I had another lovely 5 night stay at the hotel in Janmuary. I was allocated room 106 which is one of the refurbished first floor rooms. I was very impressed with the standard of the accommodation; the bathroom was immaculate (great shower). The furniture and beds were obviously brand new. The air con unit also acted as an efficient heater as the nights did get a little chilly. I noticed that the hotel was doing work around the area of the outside pool, yet more improvements no doubt. I hope to be back soon. Well done Allp Pally, again!

Room Tip: Just keep going back - they remember you & will treat you well. The highest rooms are quieter.

one of my worst experiences so far. i booked for a surprise weekender a month and a half before only to get a cal 2 days before telling me they made a double booking on the day of my check in so they had to cancel my stay. after a lot of arguing and rude acknowledgement from the hotel manager he agreed to leave my booking for one day only and offered me a voucher to redeem within six months. he told me to pick it up on check in. when we arrived there the foyer was filty and the receptionist was very unprofessional. the room wasn t that bad although very basic. breakfast was very limited and there wasn t even an indoor pool! to cut story short almost a year passed and i still have nt got that voucher.. overall it was a very disappointing stay and for sure won t recommend this "hotel".

Room Tip: just three meaningful words... don't go there!!!!!!!!!!

Located perfectly, nice and cheap.

Just in the middel of everything, walking distance to Nightlife, poker, water, Tour buses and plenty of restaurants.

Nice staff, great restaurant, rooms and breakfast where only OK, but concidering the price just fine.

Perfect for cheap stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the new rooms, better.

A good large three star group hotel in the center of town - rooms vary alot - we had a nice new room - basic but good value for money - buffet meals are rather dissappointing - however the good point about the hotel is the staff they all are very friendly and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable and happy.

We arrived at the hotel after an early morning flight. The foyer was grubby and very tired looking but ever hopeful we booked in hoping that the bedroom would be better. It wasn't. It was dirty and damp smelling, the bathroom was just as bad. We had asked for a pool view and give the hotel its due we had one, unfortunately the pool was empty and was taped off. We were told that there was another up on the 6th floor but as I am disabled and use a mobility scooter that was a no no. My husband went to look at the rest of the hotel having first asked me not to unpack (no chance of that) and when he came back after seeing the restuarant and bar which were in as bad a state as the room we went to check out again. While we were waiting to do so there were a couple of people asking for their money back so we weren't alone. The hotel was having an extension built and would have been better to shut down while this was going on or at the very least let the holiday companies know. I have stayed in better hotels when I was younger and cash strapped. We found an apartment courtesy of Lets Move in St. Julians, they were very helpful and even picked up our luggage from the hotel. So we had the expense of both the apartment and half board which we had booked through a travel company in the UK, this is a good argument for every travel company to have a rep in the resort, unfortunately there was no rep here. We found some nice restuarants, Vermells, Peppi's and 516 all had reasonably priced meals. Think very carefully before booking into the Alexandra.

JulianneSt_Julains, General Manager at Alexandra Hotel Malta, responded to this review, 14 November 2011
Pools are closed twice a year for maintenance to take place. This took place in October when the summer season was over and the water was becoming colder. The Hotel has two pools one on the ground floor and the other on the sixth floor. The sixth floor pool is accessible to a mobility scooter whilst the pool which was being refurbished is not, as there are some steps which lead to the pool. The people who are being mentioned complaining have booked a standard room whilst they needed a family room. Clients were moved to an apartment with an area of 30 sq metre and a 15sq metre balcony were they stayed till the end of their stay and promised to return. Receptionist on duty offered the client to change their room but they refused.
