“Not up to the usual Best Western standards”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2012

Ive stayed in a fair few Best Western hotels over the past 5 yrs, but sadly this isn't one of the better ones.

Situated well on the outskirts of Corby, it has few amenities close by and the surrounding area seems lacking in local shops. However there is an Aldi (or perhaps Lidl) on the nearby industrial / retail park.

Check in was smooth enough and my ground floor room had plenty of space and had a large bed. However the overall feeling from my room, bar area and restaurant was that it was characterless and soul less.

On the plus side. Wifi in the rooms was free and a had a strong signal

On the minus side, the food served in the bar area is nothing special and I suspect much of it arrives pre cooked and / or frozen. Most meals on the bar menu are priced at £10+. I thought this was a little steep for a fish portion and frozen chips or a bought in pizza.
Breakfast was OK but not great. The cooked food is served in a buffet style. This means it is left standing and replenished from time to time. This is never the way to get a great "full English", but it was edible (barring one days congealed eggs!)

The bar area has sport on most evenings and there is a pool table available too. There's not much atmosphere but the prices are fair though.

This review may read as a bit "whiney". Its not meant to be. Aside from the wifi, theres nothing to praise about the hotel. Mostly everything was average, albeit a little bland and generic. If the decor had been purple, you would have been convinced you were in a Premier Inn.

Would I return?. For one night, possibly. But I wouldn't like another 3 night stay in the near future.

Dear Sowie,

Thank you for providing this feedback, I am sorry that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations and we have taken your comments on board in respect of the food and bar areas.

Thank you also for the positive feedback regarding your room, wi-fi and the check-in process, I note that you compare us to a Premier Inn, I would argue that we offer a superior service in terms of bedroom quality and amenities to them but nontheless as they are now one of the largest and most popular hotel brands in the UK we could be compared with a lot worse I suppose!

Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again in the future.

Best regards

Arrived on a very rainy afternoon one wednesday in april...... check in fine, friendly staff, was given a room on 2nd floor ..... was nice, clean, big and a very comfy bed....... took afternoon tea in bar area to kill some time as the rain spoilt our planned trip into corby itself..... it was ok ( nice tea ) but shop bought scones with this wierd cream ( not clotted)????...... retired to room and watched tv till late eve then had quick drink in the bar .
We both slept very well and used shower in the morning.......... was an ok shower but dunno what all the fuss is about billy?....... monsoon?.......just a shower to me?, unfortunatly breakfast was a let-down, room was lovely but this was where it ends..... hot drinks was tepid, hot buffet was cold and watress was more interested in chatting to her colleagues rather than clearing plates or replenishing crossiants......friendly but disappointing.... check out was quick...no problems.....to round things up, 80s style hotel with creaky floorboards but was good at £ 34 room only, wouldnt want to pay much more though and would not pay extra for breakfast.

We stayed here last weekend for two nights including breakfast and found the hotel to be of a very good standard. The staff were all helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. We checked in and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room it was very large with a large bathroom. The bed was comfy and we had a good size flat screen tv. We also had toiletries and tea & coffee which were all replenished on day two, we asked to change rooms however as there seemed to be a damp smell so we were moved from the ground floor to the first floor. My only complaint about the room was the heating did not come on until around 4pm and the window had been left open before we arrived so the room was pretty cold for a while.
The breakfast was good and the bar food was also good, the bar has a pool table which we made use of. The drinks were resonably priced as was the food (Two meals for £9.95) there are around 5 or 6 choices but if you are not too hungry these meals are fine. More hotels should follow suit and offer more reasonably priced food. We stay in hotels a lot and find most bar food to be very expensive and so tend to eat out but here you can afford to eat in.
There are no pubs on the doorstep but a twenty min walk down the road will take you to a retail park with Domino, Subway, Aldi and a wetherspoon pub which we tried on our first night. If you continue through the retail park for a futher 10 min drive you will come across anther retail park with Asda, Next, Matalan, Sports world,Pets at home to name but a few if you wish to go shopping. There are 3 or 4 other pubs within a five - ten min drive through the estate but we did not use any of them.
Overall it was a good stay and would definatly go back. Well done to all of the staff !!!!

Room Tip: We had a first floor room which was quiet, the stairs and corridors are creaky but that is just the...

The hotel is situated on the edge of Corby close to an out of town retail park. The location is handy for the town, Rockingham Castle, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, etc. it is a pleasant enough hotel which, despite the nearby main road, was quiet. The room was standard hotel and there was everything you would need. No glasses in the room but Wine glasses and ice were available in the bar. The main issue for us was the food. The evening meal was served in the Bar (Sunday), which was quite empty but ok. The choice was average, what you would get in any chain pub. It was very expensive though and a sirloin steak was £18.50. The same available at wetherspoons down the road was half that price and just as good. The hotel was not full be any means and Breakfast was frustrating, everything you would expect but the quality was not right.overcooked eggs and bacon, strange scrambled eggs being examples. Staff were friendly. You don't need to avoid this hotel, it is fine but could be so much better.

Stayed for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast deal. Asked for and was give ground floor room near reception and overlooking lawn at rear of hotel. Staff incredibly helpful from breakfast when fresh hot croissants were produced when those out had been eaten, fresh fried eggs ditto also very nice bacon etc. on the buffet grill. On leaving breakfast could not find any info. on Burleigh House so reception printed off opening details etc. A lovely chambermaid produced extra biscuits for our tea tray and the Kenya tea was excellent. We did not really fancy the dining room menu so found good pub nearby in our Good Pub guide. Would certainly return especially using the "deal vouchers"and we recommend hotel and its staff if you want a comfortable hotel with happy staff. P>S> The top windows opened easily which is a VERY IMPORTANT matter for us,particularly as we were there in that mini heatwave!

Room Tip: Room on ground floor at back very quiet, do not remember seeing lift so if you do not like stairs th...

We stayed at this hotel for three nights with elderly parents in a nearby room. We had requested rooms close together and near reception as one of the party is disabled. In the event, because we were allocated superior rooms, only twin bed rooms on the ground floor or double rooms on the first floor were available. As we wanted double beds, we took that option. This wing is close to a busy A road and as our rooms were almost at the end of the wing, the traffic noise for most of the time was significant.
On the plus side, the rooms were comfortable with two tub easy chairs, a firm but comfortable bed and a reasonably good décor and state of maintenance. The shower over the bath was of the ceiling mounted douche type, not to everyone's liking. If you want to have a shower without getting your hair wet, it is well nigh impossible. If you want top ups of the toiletries after the initial batch, it seems you have to ask for them.
The breakfasts were more than adequate and all the staff were very friendly. The presentation of the hot breakfast was spoiled by using aluminium foil as food covers but the quality of what was on offer was fine when it was fresh.
This hotel, however, is not for the disabled, or even for those who find getting in and out of a bath difficult. They have no rooms with showers apparently, only baths with showers over. Two rooms have extra handles, but that is it. How they missed this with their refurbishment a few years ago beats me.

Room Tip: If you want to avoid traffic noise, request a room at the rear of the hotel.
