When you stay at a Holiday Inn - well you stay at a Holiday Inn. The room was comfortable although the choice of small baths with the twin rooms and full sized with the double was a little bit weird. There were mirrors everywhere - most of the wall area in the room was covered by them which I found very uncomfortable.

We were on half pension and the menu was clearly done to a tight budget.

Staff were very helpful and coped well with cold, battered cyclists.

I must say that I was very disappointed with my stay at this Holiday Inn. The biggest disappointment was the below-par breakfast and even bigger issue was the non-functional Internet. (Wi-Fi). The worst part was the staff trying to fool the customers by repeating that there is no problem with Wi-Fi. I saw most of the business customers roaming in reception area with their laptops to find the optimum range. On top of that, this is the costliest hotel in Minden. There are many other hotels at 30-40% less price providing better services.

Room Tip: Avoid the hotel

In speaking to the locals this was reguarded as a very nice or at least expensive hotel for that town. I agree it was a bit overpriced, starting with the $20 U.S. breakfast p.p.

Pro:
Good location, near shopping and major highway
free wifi
free parking across the street
very nice dining and beer garden in the back

con:
I paid about $120 u.s. a night. I felt it should have been less for the size of the rooms
ok but not that great of a lobby, sectioned off into bar and beer garden. decorating, the use of mirrors as a decorating tool was kinda freaky.
very small rooms, worse on the 4th floor when the roof angle takes some of the room
one room smelled of mold
week wi/fi signal
very hard beds, look softer than they are.
For the price I expect A/C, there was none and it was hot upstairs, small windows and loud in back with the drunks in the beer garden (did sound fun though)
small tube type tv with German only

Hard to fault this fairly modern Holiday Inn, situated in a quiet area about 5 minutes walk from the centre of town. Decor is smart, although the bedrooms are a little on the dark side. The pluses included free WiFi, an excellent buffet breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, and free car parking. Minuses included a door keycard which was unreliable and would have driven us nuts on a longer stay (staff tried to help, but the mechanism was faulty); also, the restaurant was closed on Sunday evening - a fact we hadn't picked up when we made the booking.

If you're in the area, don't hesitate. It's one of the best Holiday Inns we've experienced recently.

Stayed here just the one night with a colleague. The location is good, on the outskirts of the town, but close enough to walk in.

We arrived pretty late - 10pm - the restaurant was closed which meant having to go into the town. Although there is 24 hour room service. We were lucky enough to find an Indian restaurant that was open until 11pm.

I had read the reviews on this site, so considered myself forewarned about the keycard swipe entry for the doors, which was just as well, as it took several attempts. Once I worked out which way round the card was, it worked fine, though a fellow traveller down the corridor was having to go back to reception.

Once in the room, you need the keycard to activate the electricity - and trying to find a dark slot in a dark brown square in the dark isn't easy.

Once lit, the room was fine, lots of mirrors. Bit of a boudoir really - mirrors behind the bed, opposite the bed, in the hallway, and 3 more in the bathroom - complete with inset make-up mirror, clean bathroom. Shower gel and soap are in dispensers, but they do provide flannels which I like.

The bed was a little low down, and really I think a bigger duvet would have been a nice idea - it's about the size of a postage stamp - so remember to take PJs.

We didn't have breakfast, though we had some tea - the buffet looked pretty good. Not so sure about the view though - the back of the hotel faces a block of flats - maybe they enjoy watching everyone eat!

I didn't try the internet, though my colleague didn't have any trouble. What she did have issues with was trying to place a telephone call to the outside world. When she called reception, they were not very helpful, and eventually put the phone down on her.

The thing I disliked most about this place was that they allow smoking in the reception area. This is only separated from the bar area by a half height screen, so the bar smells too. I would have liked to sit at the bar and talk to my colleague, however the whole area smelt and was not very pleasant.

All in all, an OK place to stay for work.

Arrived late and got checked in swiftly. Room was small and i did not feel comfortable. Telephone in room did not work nor did the Internet. Asked for another room and got a room on different floor where I battled to open door lock with smartcard (worked once in about twenty trials).
Only positive point is staff at frontdesk

Staff at check-in was fine. Everything was dealt with quickly and professionally. The room appeared to be ok at first glance. The bathroom smelled of mold. Close inspection showed that the grouting around the edge of the shower was black - although it didn't seem like enough to justify the odor. Either a moldy cloth was used to clean the room - or there was a problem somewhere that I couldn't see. The smell never did go away.
The room looks like it had been recently renovated, although it had a regular tv - no flat screen. The pillow menu came in handy as the standard pillow wasn't quite thick enough. The mini bar pricing was ok, but it would have been nice had the included wine in the selection. The only alcoholic beverage on offer was beer.
The hotel location is good if you want to be right in the city - within easy walking distance of the shopping area and the old city.
The parking garage leaves alot to be desired: Way too small and the spot that I did manage to get, I shared with stacks of chairs. Looks like they use the parking garage for over-flow storage...
This hotel is adequate, but at just over 90 Euros - without breakfast - it's too expensive for what you get. The next time we are in Minden we'll give the Victoria Hotel a try.
