Our travel operator swapped our booking from a top hotel to Il Borgo di Punta Marana at short notice (as we arrived at the original hotel) so we arrived disappointed.
Let's get our disappointment out of the way: It's not a hotel but an apartment which typically hosts Italian and German families (so English speakers are thin on the ground). The swimming pool and 50% of the shops look to have shut down a few years ago. And no wifi except in the local bar. You are provided with sheets and you make your own beds and do your own cleaning. None of these would have been as bad if we'd been expecting it, but they came as a shock at the time.
On the plus side, the reception is very easy-going (they allowed us to have a barbecue on our terrace), there's a perfectly functional supermarket and shop that cover most basic purchases.
The area is amazing, right next to a marina with a few nice restaurants within walking distance and two private beaches to hand.
I'd recommend you rent a car if you stay there - you can take in some incredible views and better restaurants if you're prepared to drive and, if you're going for more than a week, you'll want to do at least 1 trip to a big supermarket.More
