“Fantastic View & Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2011

We stayed on the 3rd August 2011 for 7 nights. The hotel is a little dated with carpets in the rooms and corridors and carpets on the walls as well in the corridors! However this doesn't take away the fantastic views from your hotel balcony. We were given room 222, at the end of a corridor (nice and quiet) and we had a beautiful view over the lakes and also down to Limone. This room is probably the best one you could have. We were given a bottle of sparkling wine in our room and vouchers for another bottle, plus 2 vouchers for glasses of sparkling wine as well! We really enjoyed our evenings having a drink on our balcony before heading for the restaurant and then into Limone for a stroll.

We had breakfast and dinner out on the restaurant balcony most days. It was much quieter at around 8 p.m. for dinner. Good choice of food and nice to have the free wine and beer. We quite often chose pasta as a starter or middle course. Also tried to leave some room for the cheese!

It was so handy to only be five minutes walk away from the centre of Limone and to catch the ferries. Most days we took a ferry. Make sure on your first clear blue sky morning you go to Malcesine as early as possible and go on the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo. Breathtaking views. Head south on the ferries for clearer skies if you wake to a cloudy morning.

We also went on the Dolomites trip and this was well worth it. Take a jumper though, it is cold at the top. We didn't take the trips to Verona and Venice as we were continuing our holiday by staying in Verona and then Venice after Lake Garda.

If we return to Lake Garda we would stay at the Splendid Palace as the location is perfect. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay and celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary just perfect.

Rob & Sally Gill

Room Tip: Room 222 would take some beating for view and location.

we went for our 25th wedding anniversary. wow what a wonderful hotel our room was 601 with stunning views over the lake and mountains. The food was of excellent choice varied throughout our stay. All the staff were friendly making your holiday extra special.Location was perfect for us we found the north of the lake prettier than the south. The ferry point was 2 mins away which we used most days to explore many of the resorts up and down the lake, we ran out of time a week was not long enough. We are looking to book to return next year this time for 11 or 14 days cant wait .

Room Tip: worth upgrading to a lake view

Have just returned from a week at the Splendid Palace.Amazing location with fabulous views.Decor is dated but our travel agent had told us this, however everywhere was spotlesly clean. All the staff from reception to bar to waiting staff are friendly & helpful. We had a lake view room with balcony which was lovely though we met a young couple who were dissapointed that their room had no view. The breakfast was ok, with choice of fruit, cereals/yogurt,continental or cooked, different bread and pastry choices, I agree with the Ridgeway family about the early breakfast, the fried eggs did look plastic. However the evening meal choice made up for that with lovely fresh salads , 3 pasta chiocesplus 2 meat & a fish choice though not much veg. A short stroll down to the lake to catch a choice of ferries. we did the organised lake tour which gave a good insight of where we could head off to on our own. Didn't get everything done in a week so we will definately be returning.

Room Tip: Request lake view rather than pool view then hopefully you will avoid the floor at pool level and av...

This hotel did not disappoint. We spend 2 weeks there during August and we could have stayed even longer. The location is amazing - stunning views from most rooms and all the public areas, a two minute walk to the ferry and five minutes and you are in the centre of Limone. Despite the food being buffet service the quality is excellent with plenty of choice at the evening meals, however there was no variation with the choice at breakfast time which did become rather monotonous. The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and efficient and took pride in their work.
As the hotel was busy during August there did seem to be a problem with guests finding sunbeds around the pool areas, this was caused by people placing towels on the sunbeds in the morning and then not using them for hours, despite there being notices to prevent this.
Another slight moan was that the staff start cleaning the terrace area at 7.00 am each morning which prevents any chance of a lie in if you are in a room on the 1st floor although the stunning view does more than make up for this.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a lake view but ask for the 2nd floor.

We have just returned from a week at Hotel Splendid Palace in Limone Sul Garda and could not fault the hotel or location - both were excellent. We had a suite which was very roomy and comfortable with a breathtaking view over the lake. The food was delicious with plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner and the waiting and bar staff were very attentive. The hotel is situated just above the town but only five minutes walk away so very good location. Any visitors should make sure they find the second outdoor pool which has a secluded courtyard location and is a real suntrap, and the Garden of Relaxation with the jacuzzi. We will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a suite as some of the ordinary rooms may be quite small.

Stayed last week of August , whilst they were having a heat wave!! Stayed in room 605 - lovely spacious room which we shared with our 12 year old daughter - and the views over the lake were amazing. Hotel is spotlessly clean, the reception staff very helpfull. Took the early ferry over for the cable cars with no problems getting on, well worth the trip and if you get a chance walk along the path to the right (away from the animals who are also worth a visit) and take a ride on the chair lift down the mountain, brilliant. We went on trip around the lake by coach, speed boat and ferry plus a trip to Verona - all well worth it and if your child is 12 years or younger then you dont have to pay for them. The breakfasts were the worst I have had - it states from 7am - 10am but the chef does'nt turn up till about 8.15 so before then the so called fried eggs are like bullets which look like they have been cooked the night before and sometimes the fresh fruit is not available until 8.30 so if you are going out on an early trip it can be a bit grim. The evening meals were better but not much in the vegetable line and no childrens menu. Would still go back to this hotel as the location is perfect and we met some lovely people in the hotel. Limone is beautiful, we even saw a free concert by a queen tribute band in the square who were brilliant.

Stayed here for 10 nights booked through Thompson Holidays. Where the hotel scores is the location with those outstanding views as others have reported. The views from the public areas are amazing and from some of the bedrooms. Here lies one problem the bedrooms vary enormously from basic 2 star village type accommodation to at the best acceptable rooms with those staggering views. Unfortunately it is pot luck which one you get we paid £140 extra for a lake view room and yes got an acceptable lake view/village view however the room was very basic with the smallest balcony you could ever wish for. We immediately asked for a change and the reception staff told us we could move 3 nights later which we did to a more acceptable room with a large balcony. I must mention the staff here as they are marvellous and cannot do enough for you. Back to the rooms whichever you get they have the most uncomfortable hard beds imaginable this might not bother some but myself and my wife woke up most mornings after what sleep we had got with aching backs not what you want on a relaxing holiday. Back to plus points the food is amazing. Yes it is buffet style but as good as any we have encountered any where on our travels with chefs cooking dishes in front of you and the unlimited wine/beer is just that unlimited and of an acceptable quality. The entertainment is the usual in a hotel of this type but the excellent location means it is only two mins to pop to the superb selection of bars/cafes in the village, but beware the short but steep hike back up to the hotel would not be suitable for the less mobile but Limone itself would not be suitable if you have mobility problems you would probably be better off in the flatter southern end of the lake. A mention of Limone itself it is the most picturesque village imaginable. Transport is easy on the local ferries to towns on the northern end of the lake but is a long way from the southern end (and expensive on the ferries) That said in my opinion you do not need to travel south as the best places are local anyway. Tips on what to do visit Malcesine, take the ferry to Riva walk to Torbole and get the ferry back. Hire a car and drive to Tremosine above the lake (scary narrow road but well worth it) and visit the dolomites (awesome). Back to the hotel it is voted number 1 on trip advisor is it? Yes probably but you do need to be aware of its drawbacks.

Room Tip: Ask for lake view room on floor 1 or 2
