“Views to die for!”

Camogli is a fabulous holiday destination, and Il Rustico was a great place to stay while enjoying all that the area has to offer. It is a detached property which has two large paved terraces - a large one on the ground floor which has sun-loungers, a table and chairs and possibilities of shade or sun when you sit out, and a slightly smaller one upstairs.
The house itself feels smallish downstairs as it is just one room, but the kitchen area has absolutely everything needed, down to condiments and oils etc., and the dining table and four fold up chairs are fine. Another area of the room has a sofa and a TV, and there are open marble stairs going up to two bedrooms - one good size double to the left (and where the cushions for the upstairs terrace are kept) and one double bedroom next to the bathroom .... and this bedroom has double doors out onto the upper terrace. Both terraces are nicely kept, have pots with flowers etc., and the upstairs one has a table and four relaxer chairs. It is the view, however, which is the star of the show. You can see the curve of Camogli, where it goes out to the small marina, and the towns and villages on the coast beyond. It really is something to sit there and watch the sunlight on the water, and in the evening see all the lights of the town twinkle.

Stefano is a fun and friendly host. He took time to give us a map and show us where the main areas of interest were, including info about local places to eat and buses etc. On the second day he came with some heavenly focaccia which was freshly baked at the local bakery, and still warm. He always smiles and waves when he sees you, but is not in any way intrusive.

The property is reached by a long drive from the upper level, and it leads down past Stefano's house to Il Rustico, then travels further down to two other holiday properties. All the properties are a good way away from each other, so privacy is assured. You are given a set of keys which open the electric gates to the property (you will often see people on the road, as you go out through the gates, gathering to take photos of the view from there .... that's how good it is!) and if you turn right you can go down over a mile to a car park - a dead end at that point - which is where some fabulous walks start; if you are an experienced walker you might go right down to the shore, but lots stay at a higher level and still take advantage of the beautiful nature walks there.
If you turn left out the driveway you will come to Ruta just up the road - we absolutely loved the bar/restaurant there. Friendly people, seriously good drinks list including every wine you could think of (you'll see why when you go inside) and with your drinks you will receive a fabulous plate of little food-bites, Italian style. Fabulous.

Parking in Camogli - and everywhere else on the Italian coast - can be tricky and use up some of your holiday spending money. Rules are: white spaces are free (most of them are gone by 0930), blue spaces can be parked in but you must pay (EU2 per hour is the norm) and yellow spaces are just for residents of the area. However, if you walk up to Ruta you can catch a bus to Camogli and several other places.

We would recommend Il Rustico. Everything you need is there, including comfortable beds, good quality windows with semi-opening shutters, fridge/small freezer, good hob and oven etc., ..... and, of course, the terraces with the fabulous views, which also offer opportunities for sunbathing without being overlooked by neighbours.

We stayed at Il Rustico for 6 nights, and absolutely fell in love with the place. The house is located in Ruta, a small place above Camogli. It has the most fantastic view you'll ever see.
We travelled with 3 children (8, 3 and 2), and it was absolutely perfect for a family.
The host Stefano, is an amazing man. So attentive and kind, he is the perfect host!! We came by train from Bergamo, and Stefano met us at the station and took us to the house. The house is big, and with a huge terrace where you can sit and enjoy a breathtaking sunset.
There is everything you need for the perfect vacation.
We took the bus when going to Camogli, and that worked perfect. We followed another reviewers tip, and took a picture of the timetables - very clever! The bustrip is aprox 15 minutes, and take you down to the center of charming Camogli. With a short walk you're at the beach and harbour (from which you can travel by boat to San Fruttiouso and Genoa).
I don't think I've ever been so sad to leave a place, like I was when the days at Il Rustico was over. We miss the house, the surroundings, the view and Stefano so much.
But we'll deffinetely be coming back!!

“Fantastic view, lovely house, attentive host!”
Reviewed June 17, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We would reccomend highly this little house, a lovely little gem of 1970's italian architecture. The house has all that you need with the charm of an old family vacation home. We would however reccomend it for warmer weekends ot the summer months as it was unfortunately too cold in April to fully take advatage of the spectacular terrace and outdoor patios. Very attentive owner, very helpful. However, take a car with young chldren because the walk is long and the road quite busy.

“It's called Golfo Paradiso for a reason”
Reviewed June 15, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Sitting on the balcony of Il Rustico, it is quite clear why Byron, Shelley, and Nietzsche were so inspired by this beautiful place. Tranquil, peaceful, beautiful. Stefano was most gracious, the perfect host, picking us up at the train station and giving us a welcome drink. The house was clean, comfortable, and charming. If you don't have a car, it's even more peaceful, and you really will slow down, as you have to maneuver around odd-hourly bus schedules and everything closing after 1 or 1:30 until about 4 or 5 (except the wonderful restaurant Da Nicco with extensive wine and cocktail choices, which is always welcoming, but closes on Tuesday). No wifi on property, but is available at the town piazza if you have an Italian phone number. Advice if you don't have a car: Take photos of the bus schedules to Camogli, San Rocco, and Recco. Camogli has the best foccacia in the world and the freshest seafood anywhere, and is a wonderful, wonderful seaside town. You can walk there, but it's a longish, gorgeous hike and a big climb home. Walk to San Rocco, definitely, for aperitivo at the most romantic table in Italy at a "hole" in the cliff side: Bar Dai Muagetti. Don't miss it. Grazie mille, Stefano, for a little bit of paradise.

We were attracted to stay at Il Rustico because of the photos on the website. We were greeted by Stefano and drove down a beautiful driveway to our house and there we saw the views of Camogli and the gulf. They were magnificent, better then on the internet. The house was very clean and well presented. Stefano was extremely friendly, very helpful and suggested places to visit. He even supplied a few beers and some local delicacies when we arrived. We visited Portofino, Santa Margherita, and caught the boat to visit Abbazia Fortuosa. Our favourite place was Camogli which was far less crowded and more beautiful than Portofino. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Il Rustico and highly recommend it.

“Superb views and extremely helpful host”
Reviewed August 23, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The house is clean and tidy. There are really spectacular views. Stefano, who owns the property, was very kind and helpful.

Outside, there is a terrace joining onto a bedroom which gives the best views. Downstairs there is a fairly small area to sit and eat but an additional outside eating area and a table tennis table with bats and balls which was good fun.

The location is great being easily accessible from Genoa airport. The house itself is near (5 mins walk) to the shops in the local village which cover all the basic needs. Further, it is easy to walk into Camogli and to access walks around the peninsula without using a car. The bus service is good from the local village and we also caught a train to the Cinque Terra direct from Camogli (just over 1 hour).

Overall we had a really good holiday and I would return but next time I would not bother to hire a car.
