Visited the Zozila pass on the 1st of April - the second day of restricted opening of the pass this season. Some breathtaking views of the Himalayas. At 11650 Ft above the sea level - the view of the mountains around is very different. The road to the place is also well maintained. On the way one can see the Baltal Valley from the top, India Gate - where the old and the new roads meet and the last Village in Kashmir etc.
A must for visit place - for someone in J&K.
The local cars do charge a lot, in the range of 6500 to 7000 per car - but the trip is worth the money.

From the picturesque meadows of Sonamarg , the road follows the upstream of the River Sindh towards farther east . After a short journey it reaches to Baltal .The mountain road then begins to gain height rapidly after covering a few loops along the ascending pathway. The green meadows and the mountains covered with conical trees at Baltal are seen right below that path .That bird's eye view of Baltal is simply mesmerising . As the pathway goes farther upwards , that view is replaced by barren mountains of different colours , shape and height . At that altitude , no trees are seen . Gradually through the steep ascend , the narrow road goes up to the Zero point .Once the ascend is complete through that dangerously landslide prone area , the view of the plateau with snow filled land and the streams coming out from the Machoi glacier on the near by mountains , fills the heart with its beauty .Tourists usually go up to this place to enjoy the beauty of ice deposits from the last year . Actually the road crosses the pass and through Drass and Kargil, it reaches to Leh ,the main city of Ladakh .The streams seen on the pass meet and form the river Drass at Minamarg or Minimarg after crossing the pass.
The pass remains closed during winter months every year as it gets inaccessible due to heavy snow fall . Usually it is opened by the authorities during the last week of April.
There is a bus service run by J&K RTC from Srinagar to Leh .Otherwise one can hire a vehicle from Srinagar to reach there .

- This is one of the most breathtaking , scary hilly road in Kashmir. Your vehicle is only allowed till Sonnmarg. After that you have to book local taxi to visit further journey like Zojila Pass and Zero Point. Be very careful while booking taxi, Taxi drivers may charge you very high, so you have to handle it patiently and be a good bargainer.
This pass leads you to Leh Ladakh region. But many people go only to visit Zero Point and experience the scary Zojila Pass. When we reach to the Zero Point there was heavily snow fall, temperature was very low. We could not stay there for more than 5 mins, so we headed back towards Sonamarg . Though it was a very scary journey we didn’t forget this memorable Journey

I read many reviews on Zozila pass and always feared the dreaded roads and landslides, which that area is prone to...however, when we crossed this perilous pass, barring an occasion or two, didnt face any issues... perhaps our driver had a good experience of driving through Zozila... though the roads are bad, weather was good and we enjoyed good view of the valley and gorges...
At the pass, we took an hour break for maggie and visit to zero point... there was snow all around and temperature was dipping every minute, but this raised our enthusiasm... we clicked numerous photos... with white snow background...the best maggie of the trip was served here...though a tad bit expensive...loved the 'warmth' this place offers amidst bone chilling cold...
There is a makeshift washroom for females but prone to long queues...overall, Zozila is a wonderful place for a quick photo and snacks break...
