We booked this resort after hearing all the hype around this place in various websites and through various people. Overall it's just fine. Price range is definitely in the luxury category, but somehow the property and service didn't match up to it. So before even I start writing about it, let me tell you this is not my first luxury forest resort. I have been to places like serai bandipur multiple times which is right in the middle of the forest and it is the epitome of ultimate luxury. Vythiri resort is priced even higher than serai so obviously had high expectations. So let me start from the beginning.

Entrance reception was very dull visually. It looked very dark, no fan and since we visited in summer this was annoying. No welcome team near the entrance like you see in other kerala resorts. You have to go to the reception desk and inform them that you have come. The receptionist gave a lukewarm smile and asked us to wait. There was no excitement or pleasance in the welcome at all. After few mins the property manager met us and gave us something called vythiri passport which is nothing but a resort guide. He spoke a lot about how important that passport is and how you should always keep it with you and never lose it. If it was his attempt of humour, we didn't get it. Then he gave a list of what we should not do in the resort, how the restaurant is very punctual with regards to timings and how we will not get food even if it's one minute late. All of these were quiet weird for us. We came to the resort to have a good break from our hectic life and to feel pampered. This was lost completely here.

Then we entered the property, its a huge property.Lots of space to walk around for adults, not recommended for small kids to be left alone as the paths are quite Rocky and steep. Lot of in-house games for kids. We booked the initial category which is vythiri Haven. It has a hall, a jacuzzi and a bedroom. The weird part in the room was the jacuzzi was right in the middle of the room with no partition or shower curtain. It's right there in the open. So we literally had to take turns with the jacuzzi since we were three of us including a child. While one was using it, rest of us had to wait out in the balcony or verandah. It's fine if you are a honeymoon couple. But when you are traveling with family, it's plain common sense to have a basic shower curtain around the jacuzzi or jacuzzi should be inside the bathroom.

Restaurant food was amazing, especially authentic Kerala dishes. But the service can be a lot better. First of all in this category of resort, especially in Kerala, this is the first time I found a restaurant without tea/coffee live counter. They have kept pots of milk tea/milk coffee which is always on heating burner. If you are familiar with tea, the more you reheat, the worse it tastes. This was highly disappointing. Evening snacks time is till 6 and we arrived at 5.50. by the time we reached, the sandwich was almost over. When we asked for it, the person at the counter said sorry it's 6o clock, we will not be able to serve you. I understand that you follow punctuality. But there is something called courtesy. if you don't have something available, you tell the customer that even though it's not there, we can give you some other options like cookies or anything. This might be a very small thing, but it was a classic example of how not to make a customer delighted.

On the way back to our room, we saw a big snake right in front of us on the pathway. So not sure how safe it is to let kids play outside. During the nights, a lot of insects come out from their hiding places and land on the bed or curtains even if you keep the balcony closed. I understand it's a forest resort, but I don't think cockroach and lizard can be categorized as wild insects.

Overall maintenance and service has to improve humongously for the Whopper price they are charging. If this is your first luxury resort experience or first forest experience, you might not find it so bad as we felt. For us, we had a higher benchmark and comparing to that it was just not met. We did not feel luxurious or pampered. We would not come back again.

Stayed in the "Child- friendly" family tree house on an all meal inclusive package.
All meals are buffett only. The food was exceptionally good.
The tree house stay was superb. A river stream flowing under the tree house added much charm. The "music" of the flowing stream made the tree house stay truly magical.

Few points:
1. Lots of monkeys in the property.
2. the property has lots of up & down terrain- needs lot of climbing up & down stairs to walk around the property or even to reach the restaurant for food- this may be an area of concern for elderly.
3. Swimming pool needs to be revamped- the water colour was very greenish. All through my stay, I did not see any guest using the pool.

Over all a good Holiday. Worth for a short stay of three days.

First up lemme say that this place ain't for everyone. There's no TV there's no internet (except in some common areas) the facilities are decent but not the best, the food they serve is predominantly kerala cuisine with limited non-veg options, the facilities are descent but not the best. So there you have it, it has it's limitations but then how do they justify the pricing? It's through the awesome ambiance, the way they try to keep the nature as it is in all of it's raw-ness and if you are into a bit of nature and sorts you're gonna love the experience. Also, the staff and service were an wonderful.
The tree house is a must try even though it's heavily fenced off by metallic nets (monkeys, lots of them!) which IMO reduces it's charm by a fair bit.
One great limitation though is the absence of a bar. I mean who wouldn't want to enjoy a chilled beer on a summer afternoon while you're enjoying the nature from your balcony? Well that's something they need to add-on.

Would I recommend? Absolutely
Would I go back? Well, may be..
Is it worth the money? For me it was.

Went there for second anniversary. It was purely waste of money. The prices were so high we were expecting it to be a luxury resort. It was worse then a normal bnb.

They serve Kerala food in lunch. Dinner buffet menu had limited options.

Tree house was too small. Totally bad choice and waste of money.
