Stayed here with my Fiancee in June 2009 and had a really enjoyable stay. The staff were amazingly friendly from the reception staff to the lovely barista who was pleased to see us most nights. She recommended that the Maltese prickly pear liqueur would go well with Kinnie (my fave soft drink) so you can guess what we drank most nights!

Our room was on the top floor and front facing and although not to everyone's tastes I loved the sound of the former yelllow buses roaring up and down the hill each morning, tooting as they do!! The balcony seemed sunny until mid afternoon too. I've been to Malta many many times (almost 20 times) mostly as a child but can safely say that Mellieha really was the nicest Maltese town I've stayed in. There were plenty of amazing reasonably-priced restaurants lining the main street and our faves were La Amigos and the pricier but worth it Giuseppi's. If we were in Mellieha at lunchtime we always went to the bakery and grabbed a load of 25cent Pastizzi (irresistable) and maybe a cake. We ate in the front-facing restaurant in the hotel one night and had one of the nicest meals of the holiday, I especially loved the Cannoli Siciliani dessert! Hope they're still selling it. The caffebar by reception even had a gourmet Lavazza espresso menu, ideal for an espresso fanatic like myself!! It was a lovely romantic town and I even proposed to my fiancee under the shadow of Mellieha church!!

The rooftop pool and terrace gave super views and was a real sun trap.

All in all we had a fab stay and would highly recommend the hotel to those looking for a romantic getaway or as a great base for sightseeing.

Great great great! We'll definetly be staying again on our next visit to Malta!

Room Tip: If in a front-facing room you'll probably have to wake up when the village awakes which is no bad thing if you enjoy people watching.

Although very clean, the room we had felt like a dungeon (at level -1) with a tiny window and no natural light. The bathroom window opened up to a concrete slab and the shower flooded the bathroom after every use. To be fair the staff were very friendly, but I certainly would not re-visit.

Dear Guest,

We are terribly sorry to read that the room allocation has disappointed you to this extent.

It is unclear for us to determine what exactly led to your disappointment particularly when we do not know what room type you have originally booked. As a result, please do not hesitate to contact us directly, should you prefer to discuss the situation more profoundly.

While thanking you for your time and consideration, we remain

Yours sincerely,

Elaine Cutajar Debono

We have just spent 4 superb nights at the Solana, a Grandma n Grandad taking their 14 years old grandson for a half term break. We are very familiar with Malta, first visiting in 1973, have many Maltese friends, and have been around 20 times. Our first impressions were of a welcoming, well presented and spotlessly clean lounge, bar and Cafe Puccino on the approach to reception..an impression that not only stayed with us for the duration of our stay, but, unbelievably was sometimes even bettered. The smile of the young man on reception, the ease of check in, the fact that even on our late arrival, they were prepared to serve us in the dining room was equalled by the accomodation. We had 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, even two balconies, very well furnished, a well equipped mini kitchen, and so so clean, infact spotless. We were on half board, enjoying a great choice for breakfast, the same for dinner, and all the time with service, and perpetual smiles in a lovely dining room. Elaine, the youthful, chic manager had a chat with us at breakfast on our first morning, making sure we were being well looked after..we were !! We feel it would be unfair to mention other names, they were all, without exception 'Simply the Best', and each and every one so well presented. We have stayed in many hotels in many countries, none was better than the Solana. Every facility was First Class, and at very reasonable rates..we look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: The front rooms would probably be subject to traffic noise

A very clean and well decorated hotel, with very friendly and approachable staff. Nothing was too much trouble, either in the dining room or at reception, Dietary needs were well catered for and local information was freely available.

Room Tip: any room on the main road would be noisy

A family weeks break in October was good at the Solana. The breakfast was buffet style & was varied enough choice to suit anybody. I was surprised how busy the hotel was for October - mainly German coach parties, meaning breakfast time was busy, although the rest of the time in the hotel wasn't busy. There's a small rooftop pool which was ok - although a bit chilly in October, but there is an indoor pool & gym if required.
Good Scuba diving in Malta - try Aquaventure, they pick you up at your hotel & take you diving- great time
