Great pousada to stay in

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 6, 2023via mobile
Solar da Praia pousada is in a fabulous location. At the time of booking we hadn’t realised how close and handy it was to the pier. Andre had been very helpful in the lead up to our arrival answering our email and sending through check in forms to complete online beforehand. Our room was on the 1st floor. The room comes with all basic essentials and is cleaned daily. Breakfast takes place on the veranda with a tasty selection of fresh fruit, juice, scrambled egg and rolls which are served to you with a pot of coffee.
This pousada overlooks the beach and is ideal for walking to the restaurants/shops.

When I booked at the Solar da Praia it was the beach front location that attracted me. I read some reviews that were a little off putting but booked anyway and I was very happy that I did.

Firstly, the location is excellent, literally 5 steps from the beach and 100 meters from the arrival pier. There are shops, cafes and restaurants surrounding the pousada and noise is not a problem except for one disco at the other end of the beach that pounds out the heavy base music until 4am. Why the owners of the hotels in Abroao allow this, I don’t know.

The reception that you receive is like meeting old friends again. We were welcomed immediately and made to feel like part of a family. This never stopped for our entire stay and they are to be congratulated for such first rate service. The reception area is like a comfortable living room in a house with big windows looking out in to the beach and soft chairs to relax in. Check in is easy and efficient with great advice about restaurants and excursions.

We booked room 7 which is a medium sized double room on the first floor facing the ocean. Breathtaking view at all times of the day and one of the big attractions of this stay. A comfortable bed and small but clean bathroom with a good shower. A fridge in the room keeps your drinks cold and there is plenty of storage space.

Some reviews mention the mosquitoes in the rooms and there are some of course. The island is 95% rainforest and the rooms have the original sliding windows that have gaps around the edges so mosquitoes can enter. However, the room had both blackout curtains and nets so, with a little help from towels, a reasonably secure night can be created. Of course, using repellent and fly spray also helps!

Breakfast is heavenly, with a delicious selection of fruits, breads, ham, cheese, fruit juice, coffee and spreads that just keep coming for as long as you wish. All served in the covered garden area next to the building with a wonderful view of the ocean and boats arriving and departing.

We weren’t in for a lot of the day with lots to do on the island but the tourist noise is minimal considering the amount who visit. In the evening there far less people and finding a restaurant is easy.

Overall, it was a perfect stay and totally recommended for anyone looking for an authentic Ilha Grande experience.

The Pousada is very well located.
The breakfast is delicious.
AC works, beds are confourtable but matress could be more hard (personal opinion). Everythinkg is super clean and the decoration is very cosy.
Service is friendly.
Only observation is that I would change the windows on the front bedrooms because mosquitos can easily get in on the gaps!
Overall I totally recommend the Pousada!

We booked and we paid for 3 nights but we fortunately escaped after 2 only.
The pousada is close to a river flowing out waste water that bring a lot of mosquitos (room was full of them) and stink.
The walls room are covered by mold and there was a lot of humidity inside
Mattress was extremely old stained everywhere, linen were dirt and stinky
Room was generally dirt.
Horrible experience, stay away!!!

I do not usually post in Tripadvisor but as I use it for reviews I have to warn my fellow travelers about this place. Arrived Friday April 13th for a 2 night stay. TV didn't work so we let one of the hotel workers know. a guy with dreads. All around nice guy who said " he had to wait for the owner" before touching the wiring in the back. Ok no big deal right? going to enjoy the beach, come.back and itll.be dealt with or they'll change rooms.... room was full of mold on the walls. refrigerator was old.and smelled as well. bathroom also had mold. being a relaxed guy I was ok with all.that even though my girlfriend was not. So we went to the beach (Lopes Mendes greater beach btw!!) When we returned still no.owner, no TV fix and no room change due to all.booked up. Pretty disappointed at this point. front desk guy ( big Argentinean guy) said he would have the owner contact us when she was around. As we were dead tired, we ended up eating dinner and going back to sleep early . woke up with the hotel's washing machine machine making noise next to our room. Who washes at 1 am in a hotel with guests sleeping? woke.up next day . breakfast is individually served per 2 guests. Coffee was cold. sent back.coffee. Coffee was cold again. I drank it but I'm a caffeine fiend in the AM so I dealt with it. small bread selection . no.buffett. butter was melted in butter packs. At this point , it's under 10am still and we want to leave ASAP. Owner NEVER showed up to respond about tv. front desk ( Argentinean girl) refused to give refund for second night even though we wanted to leave after only one night and still under checkout time. She was able to run 2 extension cords to.get TV going but we could easily trip in the room with all.the cords. Left hotel regardless of leaving money for second night . Wi-Fi was also poor but I thought it could be the region. checked into to.the FLOR de LEIS hotel for 60 reads cheaper a night. Breakfast Buffett and 32 inch LG cable tv vs the 19 inch that barely worked with the 2 extension cords. Went back at night to get a full receipt. they didn't want to give it is but we wouldn't leave so after 30 minutes the front desk girl was able to create one using help.through the phone. OWNER Who we asked the name but they wouldn't tell us, never made an appearence. never reached out to contact us. All we know is it's a she. After asking around town seems Hotel.has been under new management which makes sense when you read the most recent reviews vs the older ones. DO Not stay here. look around and find cheaper bang for your.buck. hotel also smells a bit in the corridor like a gutter due to a small pond nearby

The location is top: literally a few steps away from the pier where the boats arrive/depart, and the beach is at your doorstep. The closest restaurant is next door.

We had a room downstairs and it was clean, big, A/C and comfy bed. And extra chair would have been nice to place our stuff. Bathroom ok, nothing special. The garden is cute and wonderful spot for the tasty breakfast.

Staff was friendly, always smiling but only one of them spoke English.

Price was fine. I would stay again.
