Visited by car. You will have to pay 100nok for entering te road (automatic toll booth w card option). The road is a great adventure with unbelievable views on the glacier and the fjord. The nature is also very special, the autumn colors made it even more special I think. We arrived late so the ski track was closed. I checked the snow but the quality seemed low (8 celsius) but this was just the lowest point. A rattrack was in charge. Compared to Austrian ski resorts, this is a very small one with low service level.
I will go again, not for skiing but hiking.

Getting to the Fonna summer ski station is the closest you will get to the Folgafonna Glacier's snow. The glacier's tongues Buer, Bondhus and Fonnabu are ways to get close to glacier tongues, to get on top of the Folgefonna National Park this is the only way by car. At the top you can perform excellent ice hikes on the glacier with Berforlag Hiking, from 6 years only!

Fonna Glacier Ski Resort is a summer only ski resort set in a stunning location. It looks great for professional and experienced skiers, with several red and blue slopes, however beginners should stay away.

Before heading out to Norway, we decided we wanted to try out skiing. We chose Fonna over Stryn for both its reviews and location.

Unfortunately, contrary to Fonna's website, this ski resort is simply not appropriate for beginners.

At the bottom of the glacier, there is no discovery space for getting to grips with a new pair of skis and trying out the basics. There's some space towards the top, but getting there is quite daunting if you've just strapped on a pair of skis for the first time.

Fonna has two ski slopes, neither of which are appropriate for beginners. There were clearly a large number of professional skiers using the resort, and I have no doubt this a great resort for advanced levels.

I would recommended beginners to stay away and start out somewhere more gentle. Perhaps Fonna should rethink their website which says it's a resort for 'all levels'.

We cancelled the second day of our 2-day trip.

I have been there several times over the years. The drive up/down is spectacular with lots of viewpoints over Hardangerfjorden and the road itself is penetrating the mountain and in some places a nicd challenging drive. Nice pace to ski with many opportunities. Visit while there is still a glacier to enjoy!
