Description: The George is located on the Harbour in the heart of West Bay, Dorset. This striking Georgian building stands proudly on the harbourside of this popular fishing village, made famous by being the backdrop to the recent BBC Tv series "Broadchurch".The hotel has recently been taken over (01/10/2013) by Chris and Kim and they are busy welcoming guests new and old to The George. The hotel is open all day and serves fresh locally sourced home cooked from the restaurant, including daily specials using fish sourced from the fishing boats in the harbour. The bar serves a good selection of wines and exceptional real ales from Palmers Brewery, located a mile away in Bridport. There is plenty to do in the area, with several of breathtaking coastal walks and leisurely strolls along the beach front. There are several charter boats waiting to take keen sea fishing visitors, or a Rib taxi that will take you to nearby Lyme Regis and return a couple of hours later. Whether you are looking for a adrenalin packed weekend, or simply a relaxing break by the beautiful harbour, The George Hotel is the place to stay. Chris and Kim look forward to welcoming you to The George soon.

We chose to eat here on our first night as the bar staff were knowledgable about gluten free options. The food was very enjoyable if perhaps a little too large portions. We decided to return the next night and having learnt about the portion size we were more sensible about our choices. The menu was very varied and not overly expensive. The bar area was very inviting with a log fire and the large but friendly dog. Well worth a visit

Popped in on the off chance while out for a drive. We hadn't booked but they said if we stopped for a drink they were sure it wouldn't be too long for a table. We ended up in the pool room and within 5 minutes the large table that was big enough to accommodate us became available and they were happy to take our order and for us to eat there. Then a table became vacant in the restaurant at virtually the same time but as we'd already settled down we stayed put. We all but one opted for the carvery. The meats were lovely with beautifully cooked rare beef, delicious roast potatoes and nice choice of veg. Only two small gripes, the swede was a little heavy handed with pepper and I don't think the yorkies were homemade and were a little on the hard side. The meal ordered seperate from the carvery option arrived at the same time as our return from the carvery. Desserts were good too.
Thought the staff were friendly and attentive.
Recommend this place.
