Just finished a 6 night stay with the family - wife and 2 kids (13 & 8). Stayed in a king bed 1st floor room for 4 nights and then got upgraded to a duplex room for the final 2 nights.

Overall, this is a top notch property...guest rooms, resort grounds, pools, restaurants, bars, lobby, deli etc are all maintained perfectly. The hotel staff puts in countless hours each day to keep everything ship shape, and it shows! The hotel is just gorgeous.

The breakfast buffet is amazing...western, thai, chinese, japanese and indian foods are available each day. Full service coffee bar with every hot & cold tea/coffee on offer. 5 types of fresh juices (guava, watermelon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple), 4 types of fresh smoothies (all amazing blends of fruits & veggies). Dinner at the thai and japanese restaurants was fantastic too. The italian restaurant is good, but not great imho. I had drinks every night at the Czar Bar, which has a nice old school feel to it. Lunch at the beach restaurant was always nice...try the prawn cakes!!

My wife and I got a 9,000 baht spa package that gave us 5 hours of treatments over the course of the stay...this is a 35% discount on list rates! The Quan Spa is great...chilled towels and refreshing pre-massage beverage, post-massage relaxation area, and highly skilled therapists made it worth the money.

The beach is amazing too! Powdery sand, nice & gentle slope that keeps the water calm enough for little kids to play safely but still has enough manageable waves to make it exciting. I took the sea kayak out 3 times (solo and tandem with kids), and the kids boogie boarded for hours each day. The 3 km pool that winds around the property is nice...and the kids loved the water slide! Adult only pool provides peace & quiet to those without kids. 2 swim up bars too!

But the best part of this resort is undoubtedly the staff...each and every staff member goes out of their way to take care of your every need. They are always smiling, and never fail to greet you with a cheery "sawadee kha"!! One had to love the Thai people...so gentle, so polite, and so cheerful. I handed out a lot of 100 baht tips that were gracefully accepted.

We did a 1-day excursion to Phang Nga Bay that included hotel pick-up and drop off, bot rides to the islands, lunch, cold towels, water/sodas, and a lovely tour guide (her name is Oil :)). Booked through the hotel and charged to our room...highly recommended.

We even used the hotel van for airport transfers...6,000 baht round trip, just for our family. We left for the airport at 6.30 am on Jan 1 and the hotel had even packed complimentary boxed breakfast for us!

New years eve...we skipped the hotel party, opting instead to have dinner at the thai restaurant on campus. But we joined everyone on the beach just before midnight to set off paper lanterns into the sky (beautiful tradition) and watch the beautiful fireworks.

All in all, it was a memorable vacation and we were sad to leave. We promised ourselves we would be back soon. I cannot say anything bad about this hotel.

Thank you to all the hotel staff!!

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are great, but we didn't manage to snag one. But the duplex villa room upgrade made up for it big time!!

My husband and I loved almost every minute of our stay at this resort. The private beach is beautiful and truly private. There aren't other resorts close by so you can walk quite far along the beach without seeing other buildings which also means when you're in your beach chair, there aren't people constantly walking by. We ate at each restaurant but think that Olive is the best deal for your money. Service at the beach bar was efficient and comes right to your beach chair. The complimentary SUP is a nice feature. The gym is clean and pretty big for a hotel gym. The provide towels and water and there is even a trainer in case you'd like some assistance. We didn't take advantage of the many yoga and tai chi classes available. Our pool access room was large and very comfortable. Turn down service each evening dropped off little snacks which we enjoyed trying. Since we're Marriott members, the shuttle into town was free. The spa was amazing. My husband and I bought a 5 hour package which we were able to split into the services we wanted. Each staff member introduced herself and asked questions so we could get the exact service we desired. Everyone gets their own private room with towels, bathroom/shower, robes and slippers. After the session, they serve hot tea and a small snack in the lovely courtyard which we appreciated.

The only disappointing part of our trip was the Christmas Eve dinner. We chose the "Waterfront Dining" choice but it was not clear that Waterfront was the name of the restaurant and we would not actually have an ocean view. The advertising for this event also did not mention that this choice was the family choice- we were surrounded by families and kids running around. We would have preferred a more quiet setting. The dinner was buffet style with live entertainment except the entertainment was not appropriate. The dancers wore very short outfits and seemed to be following the moves of one girl on stage. This portion could have been left out. The food was decent but way overpriced for what we got, wine too.

Beautiful resort with a fabulous pool.and great beach. Incredible service, amazing breakfast with everything you could.imagine. we also enjoyed their New Year's gala shows and probably the nicest buffet I have ever seen. Perfect vacation! Only thing I would like to comment about is that for a 5 star resort it seems a bit lame to charge fot the shuttle bus to town and the tennis. These are servicea which we think should be included. Anyway, we shall definately be back!

Had a 8 day stay in this 300 room family resort with watercanals through the resort. It is located at a 1.5 hour drive from phuket in a very nice calm beautiful location. Have to say that  a 400 eur per night (christmas period) is not value for money (too high). For that price the rooms are a bit outdated. The TV sometimes did not work correctly. The hotel itself is well maintained and with friendly staff. Breakfast was very good. Beach was beautiful. However  people reserve the beach chairs with their towels in the early morning and then go away to return 1.5 hours later. It is a shame that the hotel does not inforce self imposed  rules on blocking unattended beachseats. (See pictures) That s frustrating and not correct for other hotelguests. A good thing is that there is a non-smoking part on the beach. The resort has a bus shuttle every 2 hour to khao lak and return (200 tbh person return). Big remark : the resort mentions "spa" in their title but the sauna and steam were closed and after asking  how long at reception : "several months". A warning on the website would have been appropriate.

The room we got was a mixture of modern and local furnishing. It feels dated and condition is in need of an update
The bathroom is stained and reflects poorly on housekeeping.
The baby cot given was dirty and stained.
The TV remote wasn’t working initially and was fixed by the housekeeping.
There are a few restaurants in the resort. The closest to the reception was called Deli and its staff were not eager, generally the lunch we had fell below what we considered average.
The room came with Breakfast which had a good selection of breads, cereals, greens, juices, fruits, the usual egg station with savoury meats and a spread of local Thai breakfast options.
Room’s bathroom is not kids friendly
If you don’t wish to travel out of the resort for dinner, The Olive’s Italian dinner consisting of pizza and pastas was good. There are non hotel food options located near the beach and found along the beach.

I would suggest asking for rooms near the beach as it would also mean you will be closer to the restaurants and breakfast!

Dear Sgp_traveller74 ,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa on this forum. Thank you for your compliments about our breakfast buffet and positive experience at Olive, our Italian restaurant.

I was disappointed to hear about your experience in our Deli outlet, please allow me to clarify that we are only serving a selection of salads, bakeries, Cakes, Coffee and Italian ice creams. Hot dishes are limited due to the concept of this outlet but available in the other restaurants in the resort; I have shared your comments with our team for our improvement.

We have well noted your room comments to be rectified by our engineering team.
Our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences you have mentioned during your stay and if there is anything we can do to further assist you please do contact us directly.

We very much hope to welcome you back in the near future at the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa on your next visit to Khao Lak.
