This place breathes silence, style and authenticity. If you look for a good place to relax in Puglia, this is were you need to be. The hotel has only about 12 to 15 rooms and is family managed, which guarantees a more personal approach. Our room was, just as all other rooms, well designed, very clean and cosy at the same time. I personally enjoyed the wine degustation with Amadeo on Apulian wines and they have an interesting wine cellar as well. Food was good, authentic, fresh (off course) however, you needed to make diner choice already in the morning, during breakfast. I understand this is to guarantee the fresh character and to manage the logistics in the kitchen...

Staff was friendly and always helpful. Swimming pool was top. We personally loved the flat view on the real rough Apulian country side, as the sea is only 1km away.

I agree they can reach for 5 stars, but I can imagine the requirements for 5 stars can take away its current charm of being only slightly chaotic sometimes during diner or breakfast. But sometimes these tiny imperfections just make it really perfect and real ... at least for us :-).

We spent one week in Masseria Bagnara. The resort is in the countryside, but reasonably close to the Ionian sea with wonderful beaches 500 meters away.
The recently renovated estate is embedded in a vast plot of land with lovely trees, a well maintained garden, a big pool and a romantic patio where food pis served. The rooms are clean and modern. Our room was exposed to the morning light and we requested some additional curtains to dampen the morning sun. Our wish was quickly executed. Hence service quality is great. The owning family is always on the property and very attentive. The food is excellent. We have asked for some simple meals for our son which was not a problem with the extremly friendly staff. The kitchen is open all day long which was also useful as many restaurants in the area often don't serve food after 14h30 in the afternoon.
Masseria Bagnara is a very sophisticated hotel which stands in contrast to the rather basic offerings by other masserie/hotels. This comes at the cost of higher prices and a less typical mix of guests more geared to guests outside Italy. You need to leave the resort to mix with the Italian families which is always fun.
Masseria Bagnara is well located to discover the north and the south of Puglia.

In a very quiet setting , a well kept high class resort. The junior suites are large and the bathrooms well designed . Clean , attentive personnel and welcoming family/ owners.
Large swimming pool . The restaurant creates original gourmet menus. The price is rather high compared to the restaurants in the Puglia ( 50 à 60€). A very extensive wine list with high class wines , but also higher price claas
We enjoyed our stay, although we had bad weather.

Room tip: The junior suites are nice with a nice terrace.

Masseria Bagnara and Resort Spa, Strada Provinciale 125, Marina di Lizzana, phone 39 099 955 8337 GPS: N40.3384320 E017.4487780 in Taranta province.
We were celebrating a special anniversary and decided, for once, to really splurge. The normal rate for 2 nights was over $CDN 800. But we did not want to splurge that much!! So we reserved for a weekend rate which would ONLY be just under CDN$600. In Puglia when we have splurged it might cost us a bit over $100.00 per night.
So first the good news: excellent mattress, lots of good lighting, lots of hot water and great shower pressure. Wi-Fi was good. Nice above ground pool. Nice location but --- all of the above could be applied to most of our lodgings in Puglia.
Now the bad news: If you wanted a towel for the pool you had to rent one for about $8.00 a day, If you checked out late the charge was about ½ days rate. Now comes the dining room. Our first night was FISH NIGHT. That was it! Nothing else! My wife is allergic to many types of seafood so she was left with a small plate of pasta that they prepared with fish in it. She had been looking forward to a meal here for weeks.
The menu had no prices. It was set and when we asked, were told that per person it would cost around CDN$115.00. We decided to order a la carte. I found that my portions were extremely small and consisted of a few mouthfuls. When we asked for a bill, the waitress seemed surprised that we wanted to see it. She made up a list of what we had eaten but with NO prices or TOTALS. When I asked for the totals, she replied “now?” In 2015 the Masseria was only 5 years old. It is located less than a km from the beach at Marina di Lizzana.
We would stay here again but ONLY IF we could get a HUGE discount. We did not feel that we got value for our money.

Having spent two weeks in Apulia this was definitely the best hotel we stayed in. There are only a very few minor things one could criticize. The infrastructure is superb, service as well. Since the owner and his charming sister seem to be ever present nothing goes unnoticed. Every wish is immediately taken care of. As mentioned in many other comments it is really an oasis of tranquility in a beautiful surrounding.
Even the fact that the wifi did not work properly during our three nights stay could not spoil our good mood.
We stayed in a suite with excellent beds, nice bathroom, not really large, but well equipped and meticulously clean. The only thing that was perhaps missing was a parasol or sunshade in the large patio in front of the suite. The pool area and the pool are huge, so there is ample space for all guests. The sunbeds could probably win an award for good design, unfortunately they are not really comfortable unless your body fits perfectly between the supporting bars. A thin mattress would defintely help.
The restaurant serves delicious local food for dinner (there is a choice for all courses between fish or meat) and very good light lunches. Breakfast is somptous and not only by Italian standards.
To sum it up: an unforgettable stay!
