The permanent woodfire is becoming a rarity, but here at Don Pernil's they will not bodge. Good quality meat and poultry is grilled to perfection by the chef in open view to the public. One more exquisite specialty is the raw steak tarter mad at the the table to your own taste of mild hot or really hot.

Location/parking is probably the best thing, quality of food is OK, however we thought 10 Eur for an omelette is a bit out of range.

No nonsense mountainside cuisine in a comfortable cozy setting, Don Pernil strives to give its guests savoury experience in every dish. Order grilled baby chicken and be rewarded with crisp tender bits, a hint of salt playing in your mouth. Its Escudella, an Andorran traditional soup, is ladled to your bowl full of veal, chicken and sausage morsels swimming in a broth that must have been simmered for hours. A warm salad of wild herbs and dandelion shoots served on a bed of endives is drizzled with white wine dressing and crisp accents, makes you want to order a second plate. Paella Valenciana is more than a typical Spanish rice dish. Theirs is a delicate melding of the seafood and meat essence, well-balanced seasoning and rice cooked al dente not one minute too much, chewy without remnants of a raw rice core you find in most paellas. Dessert is not much of a show stopper though, confined to the reliable flan custard, meli mato cheesecurd with honey, canned peaches in syrup. The flan with coconut was an effort of gritty bits in flat, hardened custard. I would like to consider it my daily canteen, or a welcoming place i would like to come home to for lunch or dinner. A huge round table near the fireplace can accommodate ten drop-in guests arriving at intervals, voila! instant friendships!

During a walk from Andorra La Vella to Santa Coloma, looking for a place to have lunch, Don Pernil showed up. It is a very clean and well decorated place. The food was great and we were lucky to get a bid for the Marques de Murrieta wine. I recommend the grilled rabbit with garlic sauce. It worth the walk to Santa Coloma.
