Spent a couple of nights here on a half term break. This review would have been 5 star if the check-in was better. We were checked into a room that had been painted that day! It stank! We were moved to another room with a 'sorry.'
The rest of the stay was great, very friendly staff in the restaurant. We had dinner their the first night which was very pleasant. Breakfast was good too.
The hotel is situated quiet a way out of town, with nothing around to walk too. It is also next to a main railway line which we could hear at night even with windows closed. (I am a very light sleeper!)
Pool was nice, if an off green colour! (Just the colour of the tiles I think!)
Lovely rabbits playing in the grounds!
Would I stay again, yes.

Room Tip: Ask to be as far away from the railway as possible.

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occassions & once again the staff were fantastic
Every member of staff I came into contact with were very friendly & professional
Went as a couple on the Valentines Package, food was excellent & very good value for money, as was breakfast
The ambience in the bar & restaurant is very relaxing, streets ahead of similiar type hotels I have stayed in, in the past
Colchester itself, in my opinion is very good for shopping, has numerous individual shops, not your bog standard chainstores everywhere you look like most of our towns
Will definately be returning, the sooner the better

The hotel is just off the A12, and, if it's helpful to anybody, opposite an enormous Sainsbury's store.

The leisure facilities were very impressive - and included in the price - consisting of a pool (big enough to swim lengths in), jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and a gym. By hotel standards the facilities were of reasonable size and definitely and added bonus for staying over. However, they were a little grubby, particularly in the changing rooms.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and cannot fault this aspect.

The room itself was fairly standard hotel fare. It was large enough and the bed was comfy. My one gripe? A few other drinks in the room (peppermint tea? Hot chocolate?) would have gone down a treat.

In all, a fairly standard Holiday Inn setup with friendly staff and good leisure facilities.

Just spent one night at the Holiday Inn at Colchester where we stayed for an evening meal and breakfast. We were on a coach trip with others. Now I always wonder how a coach party will be treated by a hotel. However from the moment we arrived all of us were treated well by all of the staff from the enthusiastic manager to the room cleaners. Our room was spotless. Nothing was too much trouble. You see how a hotel run well shows the difference good service can make.
The meals were a pleasure with fresh ingredients served by friendly and efficient staff. The leisure centre was clean and inviting supported again by friendly staff.
Will have no hesitation in staying here again. They set standard others should follow.

Room Tip: I would suspect all rooms are good
