just got back after a week there. resort is beautiful, with plush growth everywhere and beautiful pools. food was great, but maybe not enough choices for the kids. the help is very nice and appreciative of tips. after several days, it does get dull to go to the same buffet for breakfast every morning. but perhaps, there's nothing they can do about that.

however, for the negatives....after travelling all day to get there, the last thing we wanted was the "personal concierge" to push you to set up an appt with him to listen to a timeshare talk the following morning. we didn't do it, but he slipped something under our door a day or two later to remind us again. we ignored it until we ran into him a couple days later, at which point we said o.k. to his request to meet him the following morning for breakfast. so we did. it was supposed to be an hour and a half, but that was just breakfast and the property tour. THEN the presentation was about to start. we stormed out of the room.

pardon the digression. the room that we stayed in was very spartan. had a problem with tiny ants in the bathroom from day one. we called to have it sprayed and he came and sprayed, and i tipped him. but the ants came back. we called again but they never came. i asked my "personal concierge" to take care of it and either he did nothing or whomever he called did nothing.

we asked for a king size bed and a pullout couch so our boys could sleep on the couch and my wife and me and our little girl in between us on the king. instead we got the standard two twins and a pull-out couch. they said they couldn't accommodate us with the king but they'd send somebody over to put the two beds together. he asked me not to do it myself. so we went to dinner, came back, but nobody had ever showed so i did it myself.

also had a problem with the light. when it was off, it still blinked, so it was tuff to sleep. i asked the "ant" guy to take care of it. he called the handyman, who tried, but said he needed forty more minutes and asked if he should do it then or tomorrow. we said tomorrow. i tipped him. he never showed the next day.

the chambermaids were very nice but never stocked the room with enough towels and washcloths for five of us, no matter how many times i went up to them, asked for the right number, and tipped them.

the ocean was never blue, but at least on the first day it was clean. after that, there was little pieces of garbage floating in it. but the beach is the nicest in the area with the huts on it. yes, they use a tractor to remove the seaweed, but don't do a great job with it. not sure what's do difficult about doing it right. however, their beach is pristine compared to the vacant property to the left and right of OC&T. to the left and right, nobody cleans anything and there's bottles and seaweed -- how awful that nobody cares for it.

had a great time the first three days. bar and waitress service was great. however, from days four thru seven a tropical depression moved in (Ida?) and it rained. that's where it went downhill. there is very little to do 'cept go to the lobby and have the activity staff try to entertain you with trivia and one-hole miniature golf. that gets old real fast. very dangerous, too, in that there's SO much water it's easy to slip on the marble. the staff tries their best to mop it up but there's only so much they can do.

night life seemed to lack, too, but maybe i just never found where to go. plus, with kids, i didn't need to be out late anyway.

nice gym, by the way, with w8ts, tread mills, machines.

This was the perfect location for a tropical getaway! About a 30 minute van ride from the Cancun airport, it is right on the beach with only other resorts nearby - if you're looking for nightlife this probably isn't the best choice, however the hotel does have events in the evenings and wknds.
This hotel is TRULY all-inclusive - we NEVER paid a penny for food or beverages (including rooom service and alcohol). We did tip at our own discretion and there were no awkward moments with the staff regarding tips - as they never asked or seem to be expecting one.
We literally woke up, ate a buffet breakfast, laid out by the pool and drank strawberry daiquiries and electric lemonades (I recommend mixing the two!), ate a buffet lunch outside, and then went to one of the restaurants for dinner.. repeat.
The only complaint is making reservations for the restaurants - mainly the Japanese one. There were certain restrictions as to the day and time the reservations could be made, but there was a language barrier with the staff member in trying to get answers. But we were able to get a table, just not at the hibachi grill where they cook in front of you.
I would highly recommend the snorkeling! I have been snorkeling in the Florida Keys and Carribean, but this was 10X better, mainly because of our guide. He would dive to the bottom and bring things up - he even caught a sea turtle and we were able to pet it! It was amazing!

This is a great trip and I will be returning in December!

After reading past reviews, we were not looking to forward to this trip; man were we surprised. The place was very clean, staff was so friendly and helpful. And the view was breathtaking. The beach isn’t the best, a little too much seaweed for me, but they did run a cleaner up and down the beach several times throughout the day; and the beach has a place where women can even sunbath topless. We have been to other resorts in both Cancun, and the Riviera Maya, and we have never had staff come down to the beach to bring us drinks. Food was pretty good, the Italian restaurant was just okay, it was the only place I would bypass; the other restaurants were awesome. They offered a shopping trip into Cancun daily (for free), the only part of that I didn’t like was at the end of the trip, they took us to Senior Frogs for lunch, $54.00 for lunch for four people was a little high for me, considering none of us had alcohol. If you tell them you want to do more shopping, they’ll take you to another mail that has a Margaritaville in it; and it’s a little cheaper. The hotel also offered trips to Playa-del-Carmen, for $14.00 one-way. What they don’t tell you is you can rent a car for $50.00 per day. That’s what we did and drove to Tulum to see the Mayan runes, and then to Playa-del-Carmen; this was a one road shot, very easy to get around, and impossible to get lost. The hotel rooms were a little different, had a glass window by the bathtub, which made it a little awkward when taking a bath, and the bathroom didn’t have a door; it’s like it’s part of the room; just a little different for this American. The maid service was always willing to help us out with extra towels or beer for the mini-fridge, and room service is included at no extra cost. The swimming pools were very nice, the swim up bar was well staffed, and they made every drink that we could name. Our family agreed, one week isn’t long enough at this resort, we will be back!

I would rate this hotel 5 star since for the price that we paid it was well worth it, however there were some issues that I would like to mention. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful, very trendy, clean and unique. The entertainment staff is great, food was very good in my opinion, Japanese and Mexican restaurants were delicious. There was a very cute cafe and a sports bar that served food until 6 am. There is basically more positive about the resort than negative, however if those things improve this resort will be a total package. Here are some things that bothered us:
1. The first room we got smelled like mold and it seemed like there were signs of mold on the ceiling. It made us sick right away, being pregnant with a cold I panicked and got on the phone with reception right away. We come to Mexico every year and are aware of the humidity but have never ran into an issue this bad. They told my husband there will be a air purifier placed in the room. We kept calling until they changed the room which was within an hour but we were literally getting sick from the smell. The new room was fabulous, pleasant scent, very clean and beautiful.
2. Getting a drink, we are talking about juice, soda, anything at all at the buffet was a problem. The staff kept forgetting to bring the drinks and sometimes it was impossible to get their attention. This can be easily fixed if there was a way for you to get the drink by yourself.
3. The beach wasn't that great, most people chose the pool due to seaweed. They have a car cleaning the beach but it didn't seem to work.
4. WARNING For those of you who do not wish to spend any more $ on upgrading your room or to add additional services to your already all inclusive package beware of a presentation they ask you to attend to for supposedly 1 hour and half. It will most likely last a lot longer, you will be offered to upgrade to privileged or be a member/"owner" which is pretty much like timeshare. In my opinion it wasn't worth it at all plus who wants to be chained down to only one resort.

This was my 3rd all inclusive vacation, and my partners 5th, so I guess you could say we've been around the block. We're a relaxed and easy going young couple who holiday looking for a relaxing, romantic stay with time to catch up on some good reading then enjoy winding down with a couple of drinks and maybe throw in a little adventure. Given what we were looking for, and despite a good time had, I'd have to say that we weren't blow away by this resort.

Appearance wise, this hotel is beautiful. The lobby is spacious and nicely decorated, the pools (4 of them) are big and the perfect temperature, the beach is lovely and everything is very clean.

We like going away in October as the resorts aren't at full capacity so you don't have to fight for space or wait for service, Ocean Turquesa was not busy at all during our stay, which was perfect. During the day the main pool had a lot activities happening, and there was always people to participate. It was loud though and they use a microphone which carries the sound to the beach and rooms in surrounding buildings, so we tried to stay away if we wanted quiet time. In the evenings there was a real emptiness in the lobby (boring to be honest), but the pool bar had a good scene. The theatre room was in the base of our building, where they played a movie every night. Where ever and whenever the live shows took place (theatre/lobby) they were LOUD (despite the low turnout) and the music never failed to pump into our room, so if you want to call it an early night in building 16, you can pretty much forget about it. The drinks were pretty good, but the bars aren't all that accessible, so if you want to party, this is probably not the best choice for you (it's a mid size resort with 2 bars so depending where you are, it could be quite a hike to get a drink). The mosquito's were only out on our last day (it rained the night before) so it's something you may want to be aware of.

Rooms
We had a non privilege room with 2 double beds on the 3rd floor with a nice partial ocean and pool view. We liked the decor and found the beds comfortable. It was a really big room as far as hotels/resorts go. Even the balcony was big. The bathroom was spacious and clean and hot water was not an issue, there was separate tub/shower/water closet. There is a window dividing the bed/bathroom with a view of the bathtub which was slick and opened up the space. We had loud neighbours the first night (the arguing kind) and the walls are thin so you could hear almost everything. Tip! Bring a candle or some travel febreeze, the air conditioning rocked but in the tropics the humidity's thick so it's nice to freshen up the room.

Service
We emailed the hotel before arrival and got a pleasant email from Gabrielle and we had good service at the front desk upon check in and out (with Karla). We did want a room with one bed so on our next visit to the lobby inquired about whether this would be possible, but before the words were out of my mouth the gentleman had dismissed me and walked away, since it wasn't all that important we just let it go. The housekeeping was good, the room was always clean but the fridge not always restocked and cleaning sometimes took place during odd times of the day (5pm). Service at the buffet/restaurants/beach was alternatively really good or nonexistent depending on your server. It was either no acknowledgement at all (and no coffee!), or very attentive & friendly. We left our housekeeper a tip each day, and always gave our servers/bartenders something too, but given there was virtually no service at many meals, we saved quite a bit of money... which I guess could be viewed as a good thing.

Restaurants
We never expect much from an all inclusive as far as food goes, but straight up, the food here is pretty bad. You'll be able to find things to sustain you... but it could take some time. The best by FAR was the Mexican restaurant. Good from start to finish. The Japanese was terrible, but we weren't able to sit in on the "show" seating (which looked like a lot of fun from afar and I suspect better quality food). I had a chicken dish that was full of little bones and if you like sushi stay away from it here. Italian is nothing to write home about. Villa Marina became our destination for lunch regularly they had your typical "American" food, burgers/pizza/fries/salad bar/etc. It wasn't a healthy choice but you could find things to satisfy. We went to the Villa Marina for dinner once, most of the menu is offered at an additional cost (steak/lobster $40+), we had chicken which was good, but the side dishes again - bad. The main buffet was okay. After a couple of days of experimentation at breakfast we stuck with fresh cooked eggs/omelette's, bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Most disappointing was the fruit bar, which was nearly all canned or frozen fruit and the salad/deli bar looked unappetizing. For dinner they have different theme every night (we saw Mexican/Spanish/Italian/Chinese/and CANADIAN...featuring Argentian sausage lol!)

Beach
It was nice, there is a bit seaweed, but as other people mention they try hard to keep it clean and it didn't bother us. A tractor rakes up the beach multiple times a day. Just up the beach towards the Excellence resort and beyond, the water gets more clear, so I think it's just the location of this resort (if you head in the opposite direction it gets worse). There was drink service on the beach and to the pools, but I don't know if this would be the case during peak seasons.

Spa
We decided to take advantage of the deal they were running which included use of their thermal pools/sauna/steam room/with a body scrub/massage and facial or mani/pedi. The thermal pools were colder than expected but the everything else was excellent. The service was great and the experience very relaxing. Normally the spa services are expensive, so be sure to inquire about any current offers.

Tour
We booked the adventure trip to Coba offered by "Alltournative". Coba is amazing! The tour was definitely worth it, and we would recommend to anyone looking for a fun day out. It included a fantastic lunch, tour of Coba, a Mayan ceremony, a zip line, rappel, kayak and swim in a cenote. This company hires Mayan people at all of the stops, and helps support their local communities, which is great. However they discourage you from taking your bag/camera along with you (except at Coba itself), which was upsetting to those on the tour for various reasons... (tip buckets at each stop but we had no money on us/no towel to dry yourself after the swim/no photos - they have photographers along the route and offer you photo packages at the end but they were pretty costly).

FYI After reading reviews on Trip Advisor, we skipped the "meeting" about our all inclusive vacation offered by H10, as we're confident this was the time share presentation. We met a couple that did buy in and they said if interested it is worth attending and riding it out, as they got a good price and everything they wanted out of the deal. I would however recommend attending your travel companies general meeting (ours was Transat) as they give you great tips on the area/resort and tours.

Overall, we're grateful to have had the time away, but this resort was lacking. Last year we stayed in Puerto Vallarta, at a resort that didn't appear nearly as nice, suffered heavy rain every evening, and was half under construction but they performed extremely well in all other aspects. In the end, appearance isn't everything, and it's certainly not enough. It's the little things that count and Ocean Turquesa has plenty of room for improvement.

Oct. 2009

Arrival:
Well we flew Spirit air out of Detroit (much cheaper then Toronto) no frills flying but very cheap, no movie or music but very good flight. Let me start by saying we booked this hotel through my brother in law and his G/F because they are time share owners, we recieved the H10 premium package and Privilege package at no extra cost, now check in was the worst part of this whole thing we got there shortly after 1:00PM and were told the room would not be ready until 3:00 no big deal, the rest of our group arrived at 3:30 and still no room, about 5:00 The brother in laws G/F went to the H10 desk and started lossing it we got into our rooms at 6:30 during this time we watched two bus loads of people arrive and get rooms. We cancelled our time share pitch for the next day telling them if this is how they treat their owners we want no part of it.

Rooms:
We had a jr. suite and all I can say is WOW,rooms cleaned every day mini bar restocked everyday. We had a shower and jacuzzi tub on the balcony (which we never used) but nice. the view was great, flat screen TV great, shower with lots of hot water, I have read some reviews about water coming under the shower doors but we had a little marble ledge at the bottom of the door, not sure if these are new but they keep the water in

Restaurants and Bars:
Ate at all the al cartes only like the Marine, we got a free surf and truf dinner with the H10 package, I'll have to say it was the best steak I've ever had in my life, the buffet is great for every meal, pool bar great, Mikes has great coffee and the sandwichs for lunch are really good, but our our favorite was the VIP lounge free internet, breakfast menu if you want a quite breakfast hot snacks all day and you can order off a small menu burgers and clubs mostly

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Never went to the beach we are pool people, and I can say all the pools in this place rock, the pool bar is great the VIP pool is nice and quite where they take your order for drinks, the activity pool is great for having fun and I beleive there is acouple kids pool but not sure

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We did the free shopping trip into Cancun waste of time they take you to three malls and they all sucked, took a cab into Playa del Carmen great day out lots of fun, did the Catamaran snorkling party boat tour now this was a great time out, stopped to snorkle, then a stop in a small town to shop and then another stop for lunch all the while the drinks just keep coming all included in the price. Joaquim (not sure about the spelling) works in the VIP area and told us about a great Chinese restraunt in Puerto Morelos (a short cab ride from the hotel)we met him there and it turns out this is a great place to eat Hola Asia is the name he is from this town and we found out the last night we were there he can hook you up for any thing you want to do fishing shopping glass bottom boats and so on, so if you are going find him at the resort and plan stuff with him

Other Comments:
This is the best resort we have ever stayed at other then the first day every thing went reall well and I would recomend this resort to any one wanting a great Vacation.
This is a 5+ star resort

I went to Ocean Coral & Turquesa in an effort to relax alone for a few days. I found the rooms really spacious but the beds were as hard as the tile floors. The staff was super-friendly. I found it hard to find a quiet place, though. There is lots of music activities at the main and adult pools that trickled onto the beach. The food was pretty good - standard fare for an all-inclusive. I think the beaches further south on Riveria Maya much clearer and they have less seeweed. All-in-all, it was a good trip but just not quiet enough...
