Highly recommend upgrading to the Preferred Club as it is worth every penny! We had an ocean-view room with a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the beach. We also had access to a preferred adults only pool. You can reserve your own hut on the beach as well.

The food was very good at the a la carte restaurants but the buffet was nothing special. Breakfast is always buffet but preferred guests are privy to an la carte breakfast. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Don't go near the front lobby if you don't want to be hassled relentlessly about visiting other resorts which undoubtedly is a timeshare gimmick. All in all a very wonderful and relaxing vacation!

Just returned from the Now Sapphire after spending the week of February 8th-15th. What a nice resort. The staff was great, the food was great, and the room was great. Starting with Sally in the Preferred Lounge for registration to Ivan at the preferred palapa's to Jesus at the water sports, they took exception care of us. The food was great though the staff at the French restaraunt seemed arrogant, every place else made us feel welcome and were very attentive. The place is smaller than most which we found to our liking. We started everyday with a cup of coffee at the coffee shop (COCO's) whose staff made us feel special and then off to sailing on the Hobie Cat's If you haven't sailed try it and ask for a short lesson. Jesus's will teach you and you won't regret it. We look forward to our next Visit.

Room Tip: go Preferred and get a ocean view ground level suite. The wait staff along the palapa's will stop and take your drink order. You can't go w rong.

We just returned from a week at the NOW Sapphire Riviera from Feb 8 - Feb 14, 2012 and it was wonderful...

CONS: Although we had requested two rooms with king size beds in the same building so we could be close to our travel partners, we got a room with 2 double Disappointing... but the room was still wonderful and we were in the same building with our friends. There were times that I felt our a/c was making our room smell slightly musty and this smell was also in the preferred lounge. It wasn't unbearable but it was unpleasant. The good news was that the weather was good, so the A/C wasn't needed most of the time.

We had a preferred ocean front jr suite (I'm assuming because we had told our travel agent that we wanted ocean front rooms.) I was glad for this luck and would not stay here without preferred status. What Preferred Status meant for us (these things might not be important to anyone else.)

1.) Quick, private check-in and access to the preferred lounge to sit and relax in relative privacy. This lounge provided servers or you could pour your own top shelf liquor and it was the only place besides the preferred pool we could get Modelo and Negra Modela beer which was our choice rather than Corona or Bud products.
2.) Access to the preferred pool where you are treated like royalty. A few days were very windy and the preferred pool (adults only) is sheltered so it was still very enjoyable.
3.) Preferred outdoor seating at the BlueWater Grille.

Our favorite restaurant was Fresco (Mexican) and Bluewater. We also ate at Lemongrass and Market Place Buffet and found all the food to be very good. A varied selection and always fresh, appealing, and many selections cooked to order in the buffet. I had read many criticisms of the food but I have none at all.

Rooms were very clean and the mini-bar fridg was restocked daily with water, corona, and various soft drinks. The liquor bottles were not restocked and I was told that this was only done on day 1 of the stay. This may be the issue with some of the other reviews stating that the mini-bar was not restocked. We asked for a mid-day refresh of soft drinks and beer and were always accommodated.

Yes... this resort is older and if you don't want a single 2 X 2 inch tile missing in the entire facility, then this place isn't for you. I found it to be a great value for our money. Clean, lush, tropical, with good food and every single person we dealt with was polite and pleasant. We especially were impressed with Irene at Moments Lounge who kept us stocked with Don Julio, Raphael at the Preferred Lounge, Eduardo and Jorge at Bluewater Grille, Flor taught us to Scuba Dive and was wonderfully patient, and Israel and Tony at the preferred pool were amazingly friendly and accommodating.

MISC: I had heard nightmares about the timeshare push.. We politely declined and weren't bothered again. Pools are not heated and were refreshing, but not freezing. Evening entertainment was so-so.. but we weren't there to be entertained. It was always ancillary to our plans. Enjoyable.. but not a highlight.

I had heard that the spa was expensive so I took my spa budget and took a 15 minute ($20 USD) taxi to the Jungle Spa for a primitive ,healing massage. It was amazing and if you want a great massage... give this a shot too. AppleVacations arranged a fishing trip that was great.. and we used the resort to arrange a reef scuba dive. Smaller resort and fairly quiet with some rowdy fun moments.. Kids are welcome but there weren't many.. Mostly couples, not many singles. This isn't in the 'party zone' of Cancun but the fishing village of Puerto Morelos and it reflects that personality!

Yes... we will go back without a doubt!!

Room Tip: More privacy on levels 2 or 3... Servers on the Sand Bar will deliver to your room if you are garden level ocean front.

We had been to Sapphire in August 2010. The grounds were perfect. The grounds now seem to be in need of some TLC. Things were not as precise as our first visit. The staff is incredible!. For such a highly rated resort.........the activities are so...so.. they need to be announced so that folks can be aware and join in. The night time shows were ok. The disco has a pool table and only one pool stick that is usuable. Just little things that could be fixed easily. The staff works so hard and is so willing to please you forget about the little negatives.
It is a wonderful resort in regard to seniors walking around... everything is located in a circle and easily accessible. All & all we had a wonderful relaxing vacation.!

Room Tip: We were in room 101........perfect location for the beach, pool and bar!

Very good food for an all inclusive place. Beach is very nice and the rooms are very nice. The suites by the beach are especially good with an outdoor hot tub on the beach! Staff is very helpful and friendly!

Room Tip: Stay closer to the beach...obviously!
