We have traveled extensively in the Cancun/Riviera Maya areas, and we have found our favorite spot. Azul Beach is perfect for us... small property, family oriented, quiet location, close to the airport, excellent food, great service. Loved the choice of restaurants and Gourmet Inclusive concept. The beach has been spared all the troubles in Cancun. Close enough to PM or PDC for little trips, but why leave? The beach beds are incredible. Evening shows were a nice touch. Room was average, but comfortable, and we spent very little time there. Can't wait to go back again. However, it is muy muy pricey, so you'll have to work hard to get a deal.

Room Tip: Try one of the new additions, or choose a room close to the beach.

A very good resort! Very hard working and striving for perfection 24 hour service. We only would recommend it to families with youngsters, as there were quite a few crabby older couples which were always bothered by little once. They should be staying at an adult only resorts, as we would do if we were to travel without kids.
This resort should change all of its rooms to the new version, as it is not fair, to check out their website and see pictures of newly renovated rooms and when checking inn, to get the older, smaller and outdated not yet renovated room. We had to pay to upgrade to the newer wing.
Overall it was a lot of fun, the kids club was amazing, but the air conditioner there could be less cold, so if your children were swimming and then wanted to go to kids club, dress them better, otherwise there will be sniffles. The girls and nannies are fantastic and hard working. I would recommend them to use Lysol at the end of each day, on all toys and all surfaces.
This resort is not the typical all inclusive, with the outdated palm tree pattern curtains and bedspreads, it is a different, better experience for sure.
We will be going back and will be checking out all of the Karisma hotels.

Room Tip: The new wing is amazing! get the renovated room for sure.

We just returned from an amazing vacation at the Azul Beach Resort. We were traveling with a group of 7, that included a 3.5 year old and a 6.5 year old. From the moment we arrived, every need was met. We were escorted to a swinging bed to relax and check in, champagne arrived quickly as did a gift and juice for the kids. We were able to choose our pillows/aromatherapy and the staff went out of their way to welcome all of us.

We were in Villas 8 and 9, our swim ups for Villa 9 (room 901 and 902) were connected to the pool with a bar right outside our suites! The rooms were outstanding and one of the best we've ever had. Very clean and it was wonderful to have an area for the kids to sleep as well. The bathroom tub was made for tall people and heavenly!! Any room issues our group had (Wifi, shower, a/c) were taken care of immediately when the front desk was called.

Great food at the restaurants and we never had any wait. For a party of 7, that can be rare. The Latin restaurant was a group favorite, the steak at the Italian restaurant got rave reviews also. They did a family dinner for us on the beach to celebrate a special occasion and that was nothing short of spectacular.

Our children went to the kids club at night (they could have gone anytime during the day, but we wanted to enjoy the day swimming and at the beach with them). Technically it is only for 4 years and up - however you can hire a babysitter to watch your child in the kids club and that service was wonderful to have! It can be pretty tough for our 3.5 year old to leave us, but he LOVED going to the kids club and Pilar/staff was wonderful with him. He was ready to go back each night =)

The beach beds were awesome! There are complaints on here and while waiting in line about the reservation process.. however not sure what a better process would be. If it was reserved the day of or a free for all - you'd have people complaining that people saved the beds and never used them. If you had to pay to use them (vegas style) people would complain then too about the cost given the price already paid. It really depends on how important having a cabana or bed is to you. If it's important - get in line at 7:15/7:20 (seemed to be a good time) and reserve one. You have beach butlers and cabana servers who do a terrific job and go out of their way to take care of you. if you don't want to get up - you can always get beach chairs set up for you later. You can also ask to be put on a waiting list for cabanas or check back in the afternoon for beds that might have only been used during the morning time. There is seaweed on the beach but it's great for swimming and the depth is perfect. They worked very hard to keep the beach clean of seaweed and trash.

We were very impressed with the hotel's response in a potential emergency situation. My son had fallen and hit his head, we needed to have him checked out for a concussion based on a few symptoms. We notified someone that was taking down equipment from a party earlier and within an instant a medical team (EMT equiv) were there with us evaluating him late at night and calling in a Dr. They were wonderfully fast and very reassuring to know that help was that readily available when traveling in a different country.

Tips are appreciated but we really didn't feel solicited for them. The staff really worked hard to please - so please tip!!

We did a day trip to Xel-ha and it was well worth it!! Great snorkeling, relaxing time in hammocks, good food/drink and just a beautiful area.

This was a wonderful vacation and we wish we were there longer!

Room Tip: Swim ups in Villa 9 connect to the pool bar.

We read the reviews about Azul Beach Hotel and understood it was kid friendly. We didn't know that this meant the entire place is filled with children and there are absolutely no escapes for couples or those seeking adult (non-kid) activities. The restaurants are full of kids, the beaches are full of kids, the pools (even the adult only...ha, what a joke!) are full of kids. You couldn't move without tripping over children. It was not what I expected. There is kid friendly and then there is Disney.
All that said, the property is small, but nice. The beach was also small and there really isn't a lot of room to walk along the beach. No sunset walks or afternoon strolls. Also there is a nude beach right next door. I'm open minded, but it was a little off setting walking past several dozen completely naked people playing volleyball on the beach. We opted to walk in the opposite direction most days which meant walking past a lot of semi-construction and dirty beaches until we got to the next hotel.
I really want to give the restaurants a better rating, but they were really just ok. I'm not knocking you if you think this is gourmet, but it really was just average in my opinion. My husband and I eat out regularly (2-3 times per week) and travel extensively. It was exactly what I expected from an all-inclusive hotel, but nothing spectacular. Sushi was a nice touch and the Latin restaurant was very good. Blue was not good for dinner as it lacked any flavor and absolutely no seasoning. Italian restaurant was ok too, but the evening I had the risotto it actually had a flavor of velveeta instead of actual cheese. Oh, and breakfast is just a complete debacle. There was always a line to be seated and the hostess seemed befuddled with the seating. Just in case you missed if before, there are kids everywhere in the restaurants. If you expect any kind of adult dinner forget it. You can't even ask to be seated away from children. No the most peaceful of dining experiences.
There were a few weddings while we were there which made it even more difficult to get a beach cabana. You had to be in line by 7:30 a.m. or you didn't get one. If you did secure a cabana they were very nice. Beach attendants were frequent and friendly. Very few beach vendors which is a plus.
We had a swim up suite. Very nice and clean. Actually, it was one of the nicest rooms we've had in Mexico (4 trips). Room was large but again, a little lost on us as we spent most of our time outside.
Pools are cold! All of the pools except for the "baby pool" which we choose not to frequent.
The staff was great and very very friendly. We like to keep to ourselves more than others and enjoy our time alone and the staff respected that. They were friendly but not obtrusive.
All in all a good trip. We won't go back predominately because of the kids. It was just too much! However, if you are looking for a kid friendly place this is a good choice.

Room Tip: The swim up rooms were nice and we liked having the pool access. However, since it's a beach va...

I wish we were some of the folks who had a great experience but BEWARE the drawbacks far outweigh the positives - actually, I can't think of one right now besides spending time with my family and friends which I could have done at lots of places. From family waiting 2+ hours to check in to dirty towels, half used toiletries, non-working phones, broken air conditioner, no hot water, running toilets, or trying to get a cup of coffee - we had poor service the entire trip. We couldn't get any manager or employee to solve our problems without multiple requests. To top things off - like other guests on TripAdvisor - our safe failed and we had money and jewelry stolen OUT OF OUR LOCKED SAFE. The manager offered no condolence or support. Despite their claims that they cannot open a safe, we watched them open another family member's safe with a wand. We spent three hours one day of our trip filing a report with the police. This was our third trip in seven years and by far the worst experience in the Cancun area. Secrets Capri and Iberostar Grande Pariso were far more exceptional in food, service, safety and cleanliness. So glad to get home!

As a parent of an 18-month old, the concept of a small, boutique luxury all-inclusive resort that caters to families with young children is nothing short of a dream comes true. For the most part, the Azul Beach delivered on that concept and we had a great week there overall, but the execution was far from flawless.

One issue that's apparent to our friends who were with us on their second visit is that the ABH has expanded the number of rooms but its staffing and overall capacity have not kept up (e.g. still the same number of restaurants for breakfast and lunch, same number of beach beds). As a result, our friends found themselves waiting around much more than they did before, and I definitely found the service -- more so the quantity of it rather than the quality of it -- to be lacking on a few occasions.

Here are the positives and negatives from the perspective of a vacationing young family:

Pros
- the physical apperance and condition of the resort: the grounds are lovely, the beach is good, the entire resort is spotless and well maintained
- kid-friendliness: young children and their parents have to be amongst the most demanding clientele out there, and ABH has genereally done a great job institionalizing a kid-friendly culture through and through -- the kids' menu is very nicely done; they have lots of ways to keep kids entertained, including the kids club; above all, nearly everyone we dealt with are responsive to the needs of parents and are great with the kids. We can't say enough about how wonderful many of the staff were and how well they treated us
- location: the short distance from the airport (15-20 mins) is a huge plus when you have children restless from a long flight
- good food: definitely a notch or two above the average all-inclusives. While the overall food quality of ABH's restaurants don't compare favouably with good restautants at a major cosmopolitan city, there is generally something really good at each restaurant (especially the appetizers and desserts)
- the beach beds: very comfortable and a great way to keep the family at the beach the whole day, even through nap time

Cons
- slow service: not because the staff aren't working hard, but the hotel just doesn't seem to have enough capacity in a few important areas, including kitchen/wait staff at dinner and bartenders and servers at the main bar. We had to cut short two dinners that dragged on for well over 2 hours in order to put our son to bed
- the ridiculous system for reserving beach beds: having to book one day ahead means you're basically out of luck for the coveted beach beds for your first two days there. Then, even when you're there well before the 8 am reservation time, you might still not get a bed you want because there are people who started lining before 7. I did not find anyone who has positive things to say about the reservation policy
- issues wih front desk staff: as wonderfully as we were treated by just about eveyone else at the resort, we did not have a great experience with several memers of the front desk. In one case, we had a problem with one of the hotel's baby equipments not working properly, and not only was this one staff member no help at all, he seemed bothered to be asked to help. In another case, a request to have our check-out be extended by 30 minutes beyond the normal noon check out time was uncourteously denied.

All in all, the Azul Beach is a very good resort that has many things we look for in a laid back family vacation. As a luxury all-inclusive resort, ABH doesn't quite measure up to some of the adults-only ones we have been to, but then of course it's a different proposition all together. The reality is that there just aren't that many boutique family all-inclusive resorts. Because of that, and because we did enjoy our experience overall, we would consider coming back.

Highly recommended for families with young children. Our room was in villa 7 ocean view #718! WOW! Love the beach beds and the kids club! We were there for my brothers wedding which was breathtaking along with our 4 year old. Our favorite restaurant was Chill! Awesome service. Next was Latino food was great! The only complaint was the sea weeds on the beach. Also if u want to take a walk alOng the beach with your kids beware of the nude beach next door!!!! All and all it was a 5* vacation to remember.
